Chapter 1: Divorced!
“Oh my gosh! "I saw Jason, your husband, at the Filadel resort when I went to pick up my friend," Ella said, her eyes closed for a few seconds before she let out a loud gasp. Ella was a wonderful friend to Amanda. They have been friends since childhood. Ella, who works as a waitress at a renowned resort in town, often returns late at night to stay up-to-date on the latest gossip. Amanda paused, her rows raised, trying to get a clue. She whispered, “What could she be insinuating? ”She noticed the look on her face and then sat down on the couch, drawing closer to her. “Look here, Amanda; I said I saw your husband in a compromising state with the nephew of the owner of the resort—Annabel.” She pressed further, trying to paint a narrative. “Wait a second, Ella, I don't get you; my husband left for work this morning and should probably be cut up in traffic or something, yet the reason he's not back.” She defended, her eyes flashing to the clock; it read 8 p.m. Ella swallowed hard and resumed her conversation, but Amanda interrupted her almost immediately. "Honestly, Ella, I value our friendship, but I won't have you come to my house to paint this narrative to me,” she snapped, her feet firmly on the ground. “Hold on, Amanda, listen to me...” “Enough already! Amanda fired back, "I and my husband have been married for three years now, three good years and we've built an irresistible bond.” She reminded Ella, then moved closer. “I love my husband, and I trust him; he wouldn't cheat on me if that's what you're insinuating.” She paused, her voice firm and snappy as she stared at his picture frame. “I expected you to know better; you've been my friend since childhood; the person you saw could probably be one of his office colleagues, and here you are reading meaning to it, gosh! Ella, not you! ”She lashed out, her hands slightly above her face as she paced back and forth. Ella swallowed hard. “Amanda, I understand, but you need to know that I'm doing all this for your own good. Remember how your parents were vehemently against this union? I'm aware of everything, and that's why I brought this to you on time so you could stay updated and keep an eye on your treasure.”Ella took a deep breath. “That's why I'm still with him in this marriage to prove everyone wrong—every single person who was against my choice of being with a businessman. I just never wanted history to repeat itself; genuine love and self-acceptance were all I wanted from my husband, Jason. I needed to be with someone who wasn't there for money, but basically because of what we share—true friendship—so I wouldn't let anyone tell me otherwise! .”She snapped, tears trickling down her cheek as she let them fall—her old memories with Jason and the odds that stood in their way back then only sent shivers down her spine, realizing she's still with him even after freaky three good years. “I'm sorry, Amanda. Please put yourself together. I'm always here for you. I was only looking out for a friend. Please.” She begged as she slowly cupped her from behind. She sobbed as she pierced her eyes tightly, allowing the last drop to fall. She sat down on her couch and brought out a white cloth to dry her face. “It's fine, Ella; I will take it up from here.” “Alright, see you later.” As the door shut from behind, she couldn't help but bow her head to her laps. “This is the umpteenth time I'm getting this information from different sources; is there something I'm missing?” She stood up then walked a little, allowing her thoughts to get the best of her. At the resort. “Oh! You also come here too? Jason asked, his eyes fixated on the stage littered with entertainments, of which dancers and musicians were doing the most. He seems to remember someone. "No, I don't just come here every day; this is my place; my uncle is the owner of this resort,” Annabel revealed as she dangled her hair, wiggling her brow—a tall glass of champagne in her right hand. “Oh wow! Jason responded. Here, take your flowers.” “ Thank you! It appears that we share most of the same interests. She asked, rolling her eyebrows. Jason nodded. "Let's get started; you have a lot of information about your uncle's influential status." He would never say no to anything I tell him,” Anabel bragged. Jason paused, then whispered beneath. “Taking this, my new-found relationship with Anabel could really help me level up financially because every form of connection is needed in this game.” He scanned the bar section of the resort for the umpteenth time—it's luxury dominant and oppressing. "I've really wanted to have a conversation with you, but anything I come, it's always too brief, so I decided to keep coming." "Same here; I like your aura, your countenance, and guess what? I didn't anticipate your return, but here you were. Jason smiled, their gazes meeting. “Talking about your wine, you seem to be a champagne freak, and so do I.” “Oh! Please be understanding; I'm truly enjoying myself here! ”She threw her hand to Jason. “Let's dance.” “Oh! Of course, that is my favorite song playing right there." They walked through the dance stage one step at a time, and then the light abruptly went off and then came back on. “What! So it's true! Amanda snapped from behind, demure and patient; she swallowed hard, trying desperately not to commit a sin. She turned back to leave, and Jason sighted her from afar. “Excuse me, Anabell, I need to take care of something immediately.” Promptly, he fled the scene; the worst was here. “How dare you! How dare you stalk me, huh? You think I won't find out? Jason lashed out, his face devoid of a smile. He thickened his jaw, anger looming from within. Amanda's heart was already on the verge of breaking. "I never stalked you; in fact, I only went to save the one I love." She gasped, shifting a step backwards. “Honestly, you know my experience; you know everything I told you during our early stage of relationship. She swallowed hard. “Save it up already; you don't need to remind me; let me make things easy for us here! His fist pounded the table, revealing a white piece of paper resting on its surface. He picked it up and threw it toward her. “Sign the divorce papers; we are done! He snapped, his voice cold and brutal. Amanda's eyes widened, her lips stammering for words, her jaw dropping in shock. “Jason, this can't be happening; we could talk things out.” "No, we can't.” “Seems you have forgotten the vow we made to each other, how the world and even my beloved parents stood against my wish to get married to you,” she said brokenly as she pointed towards him. “I wanted to be with you because I love you; we fought hard to keep this union strong; please don't allow people to laugh at us; don't allow my past relationships to gain entrance to my heart, as this would really break me; history can't repeat itself in my life.” She begged, her heart throbbing. “We are done, Amanda! The reason I promised to love you forever was because you accepted me for who I am, but as it stands now, I feel nothing for you, so can we call it a day? Now, I'm well to do financially, and things can only get better from here, so leave..!”As she walked past him with her luggage, she turned back to drop one last glance, muttering. “You had a chance to know me better, but you screwed up. I tried to save our union, but it wasn't yielding.”
