"Come by the café, I'll let you know when. You can get my number from Alicia," Kate says. "By the way, why do you think that girl spiked his drink?"
"I have no idea. I honestly thought Drake was different from the other guys, but obviously he's not. The guards just came back and told us that she's claiming someone helped her, but I don't believe it," Lorein says.
Kate has a funny feeling about all this, and she thinks it's something Lizzie hasn't mentioned to her yet.
"Anyway, Kate, I'll let you go. I'm handing you back to Alicia now," Lorein says.
Kate waits for a few seconds, and Alicia comes back on. "Mum, how is she?" she asks with worry in her voice.
"Al, am I off speakerphone?" Kate asks her, heading to the dresser. She pulls open the top drawer and digs for it.
"You are now. I'm on my own outside the pack house. What's going on, Mum?" she asks.
Kate finds it, a piece of paper with the number she needs.
"Has your father rung you lately?" Kate asks her. Tom is her father and Kate's mate. He offered to be with Lizzie after what happened to her after she left them to go on her own.
"No, why?" She asks. "Mum, what are you talking about? You're starting to worry me."
"I'm sorry, Al. I'm going to call him now. I think someone is after Lizzie, and they're in the pack," Kate says.
Alice is quiet for a few moments. "I had a feeling someone was up to something here. What do you want me to do?" she asks.
This is going to be a long shot.
"Can you talk to the girl who spiked Drakes' drink?" Kate asks.
She sighs. "I'll try. What do you need me to ask her?"
"Ask her what happened," Kate says. "She might be the key to finding out who's behind some of the crap that's been happening with Lizzie lately."
"Okay, Mum," she says. "I better go, or people will be wondering where the hell I've gone."
"Okay, sweetheart. Watch your back at that pack," Kate says.
"I will. And Mum, look after Lizzie," she says. She clicks off.
Kate looked at the number in her hand, missing his voice terribly. She dialed it into her phone and let it ring. He answered after the second ring, "What's going on?" he asked.
"Why do you assume something happened?" Kate replied. "Can't your partner call to say she's missing you like crazy?"
He chuckled, a sound she'd missed dearly. Before he could speak, Kate heard a little voice in the background, "Auntie Kate," Ellie said in her soft voice.
"Hey there, sweetheart. How are you?" Kate asked her.
Ellie giggled. "I'm okay, but I want to be with mommy. Where is she? Is she okay?" she asked, sounding concerned.
Kate glanced towards her bedroom door, walked through it, and headed towards Lizzie's room. She opened the door and peered inside. Lizzie was asleep.
Kate stood there, leaning on the doorframe, watching her.
"Mommy's resting, sweetheart. She had a tough day. But she's okay. She'll talk to you soon," Kate assured her. "Can I speak to Uncle Tom, please?"
Ellie handed the phone over to Tom. "She was thrilled to hear your voice," he said. "As was I."
Kate sighed. "What's the matter?" he asked.
"What happened a few weeks ago? Lizzie hasn't filled me in yet. She's been through so much since she arrived here, and she's finally resting. She had an altercation with Gregory that didn't end well," Kate revealed.
"We anticipated that and she'll share the details with you when she wakes up. Is there anything else?" he inquired.
"I miss you," Kate confessed.
Kate closed Lizzie's bedroom door and retreated to her own room.
"I miss you too, darling. It won't be long, hopefully, we'll all be together soon," he said in a husky tone.
"Wow, I wish you were here with me. We're alone. Why not make the most of it?" he suggested.
.....
On the other hand, Lizzie heard the door close again. Tears started to run down her face. So many emotions were swirling inside her, and it was hard to handle. She sat up in bed, leaning against the headboard.
She had to watch her mother endure the same pain every damn time when Gregory was with his mate. Now Lizzie knew how it felt, how her mother felt every time he did that. The pain was excruciating. Lizzie thought her heart would come out of her chest. It was also like being dropped from a great height and being tortured.
"Pam," Lizzie called out through their mind link. "You okay?"
Pam came closer, and they felt everything he did. Lizzie's power magnified all emotions, but also every pain. "I'm okay, but-" she said. "I don't want our mate."
Lizzie sighed. "I know, we'll sort something out, there must be another way," she said. "Anyway, why do you think we could feel everything he did? We only saw him once, and that was our first meeting. We didn't even touch him, so how in the world we feel every he does."
Pam was quiet in Lizzie's head for a moment, but she came closest to joining Lizzie in her form. "I'm not so sure but I think it's because of the power we have. We're still trying to figure out how powerful we are and what we can do," she said.
Suddenly, Lizzie could hear a moan coming from Kate's room.
Pam giggled in Lizzie's head. "She's having phone sex."
"Please don't put that image in my head," Lizzie said with a grim look.
Lizzie got out of bed and headed to the window to look out. Everything had to change for them. They were missing so many memories lately, but they didn't know why.
She looked out; it was dark. Only the streetlights were on.
Lizzie opened the window, but before she walked back towards her bed, the scent that came to her made her growl.
It couldn't be.
