- DAIMEN - Four hours ago My eyes pinned to the ceiling, a toothpick in my mouth, I blocked out the noise coming from the room with empty thoughts. Old men talk a lot. I never realized this until now. I feel like I was forced to stay in this room. I puffed in displeasure and tiredness. ‘'Where I'd that Alpha? I need it. To hit the sack.’ “Sorry for keeping you all waiting, I had to fix a lot of things before I came in." A voice echoed through the hall. 'Speak of the...' I looked towards the voice. My thoughts stood still, and a frown appeared on my face. It's his beta. Damn, I came all this way to be addressed by a beta. This is insane. I stood immediately from my seat. “Lycan King Damien Night, my respects to you.”. His Beta stopped me on my heel. You know I remember specifically saying I did not want my identity revealed. I turned and glared at him. Ignoring all the eyes looking at me in that hall. “You better have a good reason for breaking all my rules, Beta." The last words came with heavy disgust. “Lycan King, I understand your anger. My Alpha would have been here to speak to you, but he is dead." I raised a brow. The crowd fell into murmurs. Unconsciously, I found my ass placed on a seat. Finally, something interesting is happening in this kingdom. “Really. Your master is dead, Beta?" "Yes, Lycan King.” I stroked my chin." And how exactly does that concern me?” I asked sardonically, watching his fist tighten in anger. It only made my pride grow. "We are here to ask you to please find the murderer for us.” "Hmmm. Ask what you have to say. What happened to your knees?" The beta bit down on his teeth and I chuckled. Slowly he went to his knees. The murmurs heightened, all of them speaking against me, but who dared to say anything in my face? “Please help us find the one who killed our Alpha. We already have a lead, we believe that the lead will take us to her other accomplices." “Oh, it's a she." A chuckle escaped my lips. So, after all his womanizing, he finally found his head being chopped off. “This lead you speak of. Where do I find her?" The Beta got off his feet and ran to me. He whispered into my ear. “She is running for her life in the Kasu forest.” I smiled. Shaking my head in pity. That girl is in a lot of trouble. “If I find this girl, what should I do to her?" My eyes went through the room. "Whatever you please. She is already on death sentence.” An old wolf from the council stood up and turned to me." I heard you lack slaves.” I made a small smile. The old man knows what I like. I rose from my seat. And left the hall, shifting immediately. The city gate was open, so armed with the piece of her cloth I was given, I tore my way into the forest in search of the murder. The palace was getting further and further away, my mind on the game. I didn't see it coming until… an arrow flew right at me. I dodged, it scratched my arm and hit the wall. Immediately, I took my human form, ears up and my eyes flashing around. Three wolves emerged from the darkness. Holding knives. “Damn it. I knew something was odd.’ I grew out my claws. The wolves attacked me. I dodged, kicked, and flung one at the tree, the other came at me so fast. Before I could see him, he sliced the air with his blade, and it cut through my lower abdomen. I lost control, my wolf took over, and I ripped the enemy's head off. I tried to stop myself from bleeding, but it kept getting worse, my vision blurring and my legs getting weaker. I lay on the dirty floor, my breathing getting slower and slower. 'So I am going to die here.’ A painful chuckle escaped my lips as my eyes closed. I lay there waiting for death when I heard it. Little footsteps ran towards me. Her legs hit me right in the abdomen. “Uh" I groaned silently. She did not hear me. I thought she would leave me there and continue on her way, but she didn't. She bent over me, and she touched my wounds most tenderly. I could feel her compassion from the little caresses she gave my bare chest. Then, she pressed her lips to mine. Shock ran through me. I tried to push her away but then felt a chill wash over me. The pain slipped away, and my strength returned. I found myself gripping tightly on the grass, trying to stop myself from holding her down from responding to her kiss. Even when her lips pulled away, I still controlled myself until I heard the palace guards yelling at her, and she tried to run. That was when I realized the girl was the one I was supposed to kill. A mischievous smirk crept up my face. ‘Harper, I am going to love playing with you.’ She attempted to run. I grabbed her hand. “Where do you think you are going?" She threw her eyes at me, they met my auburn gaze. Unconsciously, my heart skipped a beat. Damn, she is beautiful, with her long thick red hair that flows down her back. She froze me with her bright, piercing blue eyes. A small, upturned nose, high cheekbones, full lips that just kissed me. At that moment, I thought time stopped until She punched me in the face. “Let go of me!" She yelled, yanking on her hand. “If you want to live, stay here.” Surprise spread across her face, but there was no expression on mine. She still tried to run, but I let her go. She took two steps, I grabbed her hand, twirled her around, and pressed her back on the tree behind us, an elbow on her neck. "Stay put." She gulped, breathing heavily, her eyes in mine. “They are here.” The voices of the guards filled the forest, their footsteps marching towards us. I looked at her
