Prologue
It is 6:30 pm and the stores in the cafeteria are closing.
I found myself in a situation I never thought I would be in. I am sitting in the cafeteria and the guy in front of me was looking at me intently, waiting for my reply.
"We need to talk. You can't ignore me forever." He asked.
"I'm not ignoring you, I'm just really busy." I looked away.
He sighed and combed his hair. "Okay, let's just say I believe."
We were silent for a while. I really didn't know what to say but I need to face this.
"I think ..." I started talking. He looked at me and I think he can see through me how I struggled with finding the right words to say. What can I say? was last night a mistake?
"We were lonely." he said softly.
"Agreed." I said, finally looking at him. "Do we do something about it?" I almost whispered.
"I don't know."
I laughed a little as I remembered last night. No one in their sane mind french kisses their very platonic friend out of loneliness, doubt and anger, but I guess we are both weirdos.
"I know it's weird for me to say this but, when we ..." I trailed my words. "did that thing." he said as he chuckled a bit.
"For a second there, I didn't feel the pain? I forgot, even though everything that happened these past few days was only temporary." I started mumbling. "It's f*****g crazy but-"
"I didn't regret it." he stated as he looked into my eye.
"yeah, me too." I shyly admitted.
"But I don't like you like that and I know you don't feel that way too." I added.
"We are a different kind of f****d up." he started to laugh. I started to laugh too.
"Let's be each other's confidant." he said carefully. "If you want to forget or I want to forget, we can be there for each other, for the meantime. As long as our loved ones don't love us yet." he looked away, he also felt the pain I was feeling. We are just in the same situation.
"You mean each other's band aids?"
"You can call it that."
"When do we stop this weird arrangement? Or relationship? Or?" I said.
he chuckled as he placed his hands on his chin. "We can stop if one of us wants to stop."
"Okay."
"Okay."
