Zackary

I head down the stairs and out the door, making a beeline for the forest behind the pack house. I strip and let Apollo take over. We start racing through the trees until we hit the border to the Rogue territory. Apollo starts sniffing the air like crazy. 'Mate! Mate is close human!' 'Really? Why would she be in Rogue territory?' 'I don't know human but we must find her!' 'Ok,ok. Hold on, I'll call Mark and have him come with us. I'll have him bring Anthony too. Matt can handle things with Jasmine until we get back.' We shift back and I pull on some shorts from one of the stash trees nearby then link the guys, 'Hey Mark, Anthony, meet me outside the forest on the border of the Rogue territory. Apollo says he scented our mate and she's out here somewhere.' 'WHAT?! Ok man, we're headed to you!' I cut the link and take a deep breath. Hold on little mate, I can't wait to see you.

I sit down under a tree to wait for the guys, they are going to need to get stuff together and fill in Matt on what's going on before they can get here. 'Which way exactly are you smelling our mates scent Apollo?' 'Smells like we will need to head west. It's not super strong, just smells like it traveled on the wind this way so I will be able to get a better direction when we start moving. Hopefully the smell will get stronger as we move towards her.' 'I'm nervous Apollo. What if she doesn't like me? What if she is a rogue and has a mate she chose out there already?' 'Zackary, we still have a strong connection to her, I feel it, she didn't take a chosen or it wouldn't be as strong. And I doubt she won't like you, what's not to like? Except for the terrible choice in bed partners.' 'Shut up Apollo, Jasmine was a mistake, one I plan on fixing as soon as we get back. Hopefully we will be coming back with our mate today.'

I hear the sound of paws hitting the ground and heading in my direction so I stand up and shift into Apollo. I look into the trees and see Mark and Anthony's wolves, Hunter and Max, I howl and start into Rogue territory and they howl back and fall in behind me. We run west for about an hour. All of a sudden I sense something on my right and then I feel a sharp pain in my side. 'Apollo! Rogues!' 'On it human, give me full control.' I pull back in my mind and give the reins to Apollo. As I look through to see what's going on I notice there are at a minimum fifty rogues popping up from all around. 'What the hell is this Apollo? Rogues are never this coordinated!' 'I don't know Zackary, something suspicious is going on here. It's like they knew someone would be coming this way and were waiting to ambush them.' Hunter is fighting off two right now with Max right behind him fighting another two. Apollo rips out the throat of the one that attacked us and then turns and howls to Hunter and Max, 'Hunter, Max, we need to keep moving, there are too many of them and we are too far to link warriors!' 'Yes Alpha!' They both kill the rogues they were fighting and start following Apollo out.

Apollo is going as fast as he can to get us out of this ambush but I don't know if we are going to make it. I feel them getting closer, at least twenty of them followed us when we ran. I just hope we can survive this. All of a sudden Apollo's nose catches the scent of our mate again, much stronger than before, he changes course and starts racing towards her scent. Hopefully we lose the rogues, I don't want them attacking my mate... They are getting closer, we just need to lose them somehow.

Suddenly I hear a howl and I look back and see that Max has been tackled by one of the rogues, we were almost to this little forested area in the Rogue territory. 'Apollo, turn around, we have to help Max and Hunter.' 'Alright Zackary, Mate is really close so let's kill these rogues and find her!' As Apollo turns to help we are tackled to the ground and I feel a searing pain in my hind leg. The rogues are on us in an instant and now it's a fight to survive. I refuse to die like this, not when I am this close to finding my mate. We fight them off with all we have but we are losing ground fast. Apollo kills the rogue that jumped at us by ripping his throat out, and I look around, Max and Hunter are holding their own, the ground is covered in blood and corpses of dead rogues. I start to feel light headed and see that we are still bleeding from our hind leg. 'Apollo, why are we not healing? That should've healed by now.' 'I don't know Zackary, I feel weird, I think they have some type of poison on their claws.' Everything starts to go black but right before we faint I hear another howl and see a beautiful wolf race in and start killing the rest of the rogues. 'Mate!'

Aurora

I wake up this burning feeling more calm than I have in a long time. It's weird. Something feels different today but I can't put my finger on it. It's just another birthday to me, yes I just turned eighteen and should be able to find my mate today but I wouldn't think I would find him out in the wild. I move through my normal routines and have my shower and breakfast then head out to the garden to work. A few hours pass and I start to smell something heavenly, freshly baked chocolate donuts, my favorite. 'Mate! Mate is close Aurora!' 'Are you sure Athena?' 'Yes!' I sit up when I hear a loud howl, I know I am safe because I put up a concealment charm on the cabin grounds a year after mom was killed so that the rogues would leave me alone. I look around and see in the distance three large wolves being chased by a pack of rogues. I realize the smell is coming from the larger all black wolf with golden eyes and instantly know that's my mate. 'Athena we have to help them!' 'Shift Aurora, we will need to be fast and we can bring them back here to help heal them.' I quickly shift into Athena right when I notice my mate starting to drop to the ground. I race out and Athena kills the rest of the rogues in an instant. The other two wolves are watching me closely but realize quickly I am not a threat so they help me move my mate towards my cabin. I shift back when we get closer. "I know you don't know me and you are probably wary because I am a rogue, but that is my mate and I want to help him. I can treat your wounds and his but you need to trust me, ok?" The other two wolves look like they are linking each other then nod and follow me through the now visible gate. My mate has shifted back at this point so I get a blanket and cover him while I go find suitable clothing for them all. This is definitely not how I imagined meeting my mate would go.
