Chapter SEVENTEEN: Second Chance

"Now that we are back and it seems that everyone is finished with dinner, lets move to the ballroom for the night of your lives." I said over the crowd.  I watched as they got up to disperse out of the door moving across the hall.  I stepped down and I noticed my mate hanging back.  So I approached him.

"How are you fairing this evening Jason?" I asked with a smile.

He returned it making me swoon, "Okay I guess, Alpha Minerva.  Being in a room full of werewolves I do not know is different."

"I know what you mean for sure.  Would you mind escorting me across the hall?  The heels are a little wobbly for me."

"Of course I can. Can I ask you something?"

"Of course, you can ask me anything."

"Are you my mate?  I feel drawn to you in a weird way and I did not feel the pull with that one chick that tried saying she was."

"I am glad you went ahead and brought that up.  In fact, yes I am your mate and the fact that you feel a pull is interesting for a human."

"Let's go into a side room and discuss this.  This is complicated and Slate and your sister are mates to so really we need them as well," I said with a sigh.

When we stepped into the ballroom I seen Slate already talking to Kate.  I kept searching and found Thomas wrapped up in the same girl that was trying to tell Jason that she was his mate.  We made our way over to Slate and Kate, "Hey guys we need to step away and talk about this before there are any irrational decisions made," I told them.

They both nodded and we slipped off to a side conference room.  It was a soundproof room and the window in it was one way where we can see what is happening outside in the ballroom.  When I turned from closing the door, Jason stepped up and kissed me so deep and passionately that I almost lost focus on what was at hand.

Pushing him away, I said with regret, "I appreciate how eager you are, but you must listen first before accepting me as your mate, you both do actually."

"Sit down both of you.  I want you both to decide tonight if you can be with us or if you feel the need to reject us.  Only after thinking about it of course.  Unfortunately though, you do not have much time to think as we are facing danger," said Slate rather seriously.

I took a deep breath, slowly letting it out I started, "So there is an Alpha that is infatuated with me.  His name is Thomas and he has kidnapped a young witch child and they asked me for help."

"The problem with this is we are apart of a prophecy and this is just the beginning."

"Minerva and I are also a power bonded pair.  Our mothers were an angel and a demon mated to alphas.  This made us have a bond that will help with what lies ahead but it is only truly strong if our mates are with us.  Now with saying that, you both can decide to reject us and we will figure this out without you or one of you or neither of you but that is just what was said.  If you reject us we will accept the rejections and let you both go live your lives.  We are not selfish people which is why we wanted to tell you all of this first," Slate finished with a worried look.  I knew he was worried Kate would reject him and honestly I thought Jason would but he surprised me by standing up, walking to me and picking me up. 

"I will go to the ends of the earth for you Minerva.  I want you as my mate.  I don't want to have to worry about being with other humans.  I was chosen for you and I want to fulfil that," He told me before pushing me against the wall kissing me with everything he had.  

"You better quit before I make you mine right here in front of your sister and her mate," I said breathlessly.

He sat me down with a grin and turned towards his sister.  You can see the hesitation on her face and the worried look on Slates.  I walked over to her and sat beside her turning her chair to face me. 

"I do not know your pasts but I do know Slate's.  You are his second chance as your brother is mine.  We were young when our mates were killed and have lived several years waiting to cross paths with you both.  Give it some thought but do not cast him away because we are tied up in a prophecy, he is a good man and will cherish you.  I can promise you that."

She nodded at me and when I went to get up she grabbed my arm.  "Is all the rumors about you true?  That you are ruthless?"

"Yes they are.  I do not put up with disrespect and I do not put up with people threatening me and my pack.  I do what is necessary to keep them safe.  Now if you go asking pack members, they will tell you I am not that I just care.  With what I have been through and what I am about to go through, I cannot risk being caught up being a pushover.  What would be the point of being an alpha?"

She took a deep breath and looked at her brother.  He offered her a smile and a nod and she responded by standing up and walking to Slate.  I could see the anticipation of hope, worry, and overall just scared move across his face.  Cupping his face she said, "I accept you as my mate Slate." and with that he picked her up swinging her around.  He kissed her and you could almost visibly see the fireworks.

"Lets go and leave them.  He's got his work cut out for him with winning her.  Plus, I need to see how you fair with meeting my pack members and Thomas.
