Chapter SIXTEEN: New Plan

"What now Slate?" I asked him as he drug me across the hall into a secluded corner.
"They're moving the girl and I sent the men to follow them to keep tabs the best we can."
"We need to go Slate. This is sounding sketchy and we need to be the center of this to get that baby out of his hands."
"I know Minerva, but you can't just leave this ball without a reason and we do not need to start a war tonight with so many Alphas that do not know the situation," he said with a sigh.
"You're right. But you know we are going to have to keep an eye out tonight. If he is moving her, then he must be getting ready for an attack."
"I am not real sure about any of it, but if he was smart he would wait. I have the men following and I will keep the tabs Minerva, keep your focus on the ball and I will be in the background for the information. Plus we have to win over our mates."
I let out a sigh and turned from Slate. "Well then lets get the party started."
He stepped up beside me and I put my hand on his arm and let him escort me to the dining room.
Upon entering, the whole room went quiet. I could smell the apple pie scent of my mate as we walked to the head table. I slightly glanced around until I seen him sitting at the next table beside ours. I wanted to head over to him and so did Alec but I knew I couldn't. I gripped Slate's arm tighter as I knew he wanted to do the same.
As we reached the table and stepped behind, I turned to address the room. "Good evening everyone. Welcome to the Lunar Moon Pack for this years Mating Ball."
"As you know I am Alpha Minerva and escorting me today is Alpha Slate. We ask that you enjoy the dinner that will be served shortly and if you find your mate, enjoy them as well. Let dinner be served."
I sat down about the time I got the mindlink, "Alpha! We need a new plan. He moved the girl closer to the coven and it's more crowded here."
"Okay. Leave scouts there to keep an eye on them. You and Stan come back and we will create a new plan and get the girl back."
I felt the connection break and looked at Slate, "We need a new plan. He moved her closer to the coven."
He nodded as we were served our dinner for the evening. I looked across the room at the people around us. They were all around 18 years old with the occasional older ones who still had hope that they had a mate out there. There were a few alphas that were close to my age that I knew were hoping for a second chance or really even a first chance. All I could hope for is that none of them were around when Thomas decided to strike.
"Alpha we are here coming through the back exit into the private elevator."
"We will be up there in a minute."
I cut the link and looked at Slate, "They're here."
He nodded and stood up offering his hand to me. I reached for his hand as he addressed the room, "We have emergency business to attend to, we will be back to you momentarily."
As we walked out I could feel my mates eyes on me. "Alec. Humans can't feel the mate pull, right?"
"No Minerva, they cannot. Which it does not help that you are showing a lot of skin and humans like to mate with women who reveal themselves like that."
She has a point I thought to myself, but then again, he stayed staring at my face and not the rest of me. I shook it off and headed into my office with Slate right behind me.
"Did you need help picking out a dress Minerva?" came the first thing out of Zech's mouth.
"No Zech, I may need to kick your ass and I can't do that in a ball gown."
He laughed as I made my way to the desk where he had a map laid out.
"So they moved her closer to the coven? Probably to try to keep her alive longer being away from magic and her parents." I said to no-one in particular.
"You are right but the hardest part of this is now getting inside to get the girl with how many neighbors are in the surrounding area of the house," said Steve.
"I do not see a problem with the neighbors just how to get the girl without having Thomas attack when Slate and I are not prepared for it."
"You are always prepared Alpha, you have always been prepared for anythings. We will get the girl tonight since the move will have them scattered and bring her back in your office," said Zech.
"Sounds goo---" "Alpha Thomas has arrived and entering the dining hall."
"We have to go Slate. Thomas is here and making his entrance."
"Zech. Your men needs to get the girl and double our patrol and borders. We must train and prepare. We do not have much time at all. Plus I need to find our mole and get them out of here."
"Yes Alpha. We will let you know."
I watched them walk out. I looked at Slate and all he did was hold out his arm. We have a ball to host and attend and we have to make sure to keep eyes on Thomas the whole time.
I took his arm and we headed down to the dining room. Upon entering, I instantly found myself looking for my mate noticing he had a she wolf sitting beside him grabbing his bicep. He looked uncomfortable with the gester when I heard her tell him she was his mate. Alec bristled and Slate murmured under his breath, "Leave it Minerva. When the dance starts we can pull them away and explain everything."
i huffed at him and spotted Thomas. He looked rather pissed off that I had Slate beside me but the next thing I noticed was Xavier sitting at our table waiting.
"Son, Minerva, we need to be prepared. I think he is attacking tonight."
