Chapter FOURTEEN: Minerva

1112 Words
Slate's POV- When Minerva woke up out of her unconscious state. I already had an idea of what she experienced as my mom did the same for me. "How are you feeling?" I asked her. "I'm okay. Just making sense of what just happened," she said to me weakly. Sitting beside her, I placed my arm around her as she cuddled against my side. "I never thought I would ever get to see my mom again and yet she was there, talking to me, telling me about the prophecy." "I know what you mean. My mom had done the same for me and it took me awhile to process it. I just hate we didn't come to you sooner so it wouldn't be so hard to process," I said squeezing her shoulders. She smiled at me and sat up. "Well we better get some sleep while we can. It's going to be a long day tomorrow." Smiling I moved around to the other side of her bed. I watched her climb in and curl up. I laid there thinking about her and what she's capable of. She lost everything. Mother. Father. Mate. Son. Everything. And yet she's here taking care of her pack like they deserve and killing any threat that comes across her and her pack. She's made it through the wars of others and hardly lost anyone. She was an amazing person and she's been doing this alone for 4 years. She is taking it with stride and only will become better when her second chance comes along. It was never said what our mates would be just that they were twins. I know she slept around and I don't blame her. I myself is guilty of that. But how could someone even think of resisting her? She was beautiful. 5 foot 8 inches, long muscular legs, curves in all the right places. Of course I've always had a crush on her but dad said we would never be mated together because of the prophecy and I accepted that. So when I got the chance earlier to get up against her to manipulate the mole into thinking she was bedding me, I took it as my chance to really feel her against me. She would definitely make a man feel insecure with himself if he felt how strong she was physically, which Alpha blood has a lot to do with that. Turning over to look at her, I couldn't help but notice the lines on her face from facing whatever was happening in her dreams. I reached and touched her and watched the lines disappear. I could feel the pain coming through her. So much pain it was almost unbearable. She has held so much inside that she expresses it in her sleep when she's unconscious. So I did what my ability lets me do, I took her main away and channeled it into Erebus. He whined feeling all her pain channeling though him. That's when I felt the tiredness take over from her pain. "Goodnight Minerva, rest well now." Was all I could muster before sleep over took me. ---------- I was shook awake hard. "Slate. Wake up. Now." Mumbling, "Just 5 more minutes." "No Slate. Wake up. We need to talk." Opening my eyes I looked at a very concerned Minerva. "What's the problem?" "Why did you take it all away?" she asked visibly upset. "Because you needed to rest Minerva. You have been through so much you needed to rest. The dreams need to stop. I felt your pain. I felt everything you feel and I pulled it from you because you can't keep living like that. We will meet our second chances and you can't mess it up with the pain you bear. So when you meet him, you can tell him everything without feeling the pain with it," I told her. "That's all I had of them. Of everyone I lost." she said starting to cry. "Please don't cry. I'm sorry but you had to let go---," a knock interrupted us. "Alpha Minerva. You must start getting ready. It's 3pm," is what came from the other side of the door. "Yes Kelly. I'll get on that." "We must get ready. We have Alpha's to meet and a Mating Ball to host." "Who's this we thing... I'm just escorting you down," I said laughing while jumping out of her bed and running. "That's not fair!" Was all I heard as I ran down the hall to my guest room. "Erebus, why would she be upset that I took her pain away?" "I'm not real sure Slate. But let's hope it the mate night. She has to understand why the mates are important for this to happen in favor of us winning." I thought about what he said and it's true. She must think about her second chance and what this will mean for the supernatural race. Making it in my room I took a shower and got dressed in my attire for the evening. A black tuxedo with a royal blue silk shirt should do the trick of being impressive enough to escort Minerva down and maybe catch the eye of my mate. I then headed back up to her room. I stepped inside and shut the door. I headed to her closet just in time to see her finish up pinning her hair. "Well well it didn't take you long to get ready," she said sarcastically. "Well I'm not a woman," I replied with a shrug. She proceeded to put a light layer of makeup with a smokey eye shadow and a dark rose colored lipstick. "You know it's almost 4:15. You don't have much longer before they're here," I said with a smirk. "One day you're going to have that smirk wiped off your face Slate Cain," she said rolling her eyes. I watched her slide on her dress and could only think of how crazy this woman is. It's a black number that dips to almost her belly button with the back just like it and a split that would make an honest man look. She then paired it with a black pair of stilettos. "Damn woman. What do you think you're doing?" "It's light weight and strappy. Did you forget we have a war that is supposed to be coming to us? Last thing I want to do is fight in a ball gown." Shrugging I offered my arm to her and we walked out of her room heading down. We hit the last landing and we both stopped and looked at each other. "Mates." We both said at the same time.
