CHAPTER 24
I woke up in the New Berlin medical bay two days later. Dressed in a medical gown, I found my right leg heavily bandaged but was thankful that, despite the pain, I could still move it. The screams and cries of those we left behind echoed in my skull, but the medical area was surprisingly calm and peaceful. It didn’t take long for a doctor to notice I had regained consciousness. He informed me that I had undergone successful emergency surgery and should anticipate a full recovery. No long-term issues or side effects were expected. At least not physical ones.
