CHAPTER 27
The next day, I got Smack to take over training of my new platoon. Dressed in my Exo-suit, I made for the C&C building. Security was tight but thankfully mostly managed by the Second Battalion, so I blended right in. I waited by the main doors and chatted with colleagues or paced back and forth, as if on patrol, all the while closely watching the comings and goings of the top brass, the MARSCORP execs, and the hundreds of drone-like analysts. It took a few hours, but I spotted Dennis walking towards C&C flanked by two armed minders. Working out exactly want I wanted to say without sounding too desperate, I moved into his field of vision, trying to not make it look too obvious that I was trying to catch his attention.
“Corporal Loughlin,” he said, sounding pleasantly surprised
