CHAPTER 28
Gazing up at the massive viewing screen, I paced the C&C floor, willing the transmission to come through. Doctor Ling visibly shook at the sight of the dead soldier in front of her while the general continued to gaze off into space.
“Anything?” I called out to Smack.
“Nothing yet,” she replied, checking the screen readouts.
I had anticipated this delay, but the entire plan hinged on taking the fleet. We could hold the colonies but never keep them with a fleet of ships ready to rain death upon us at any moment. I checked the watch I had taken off one of the captured soldiers and looked towards Smack again. Another update was due to arrive.
“Sir, quarantine measures are in full effect. The base has been locked down.”
“Good. Make sure the security teams are fully locked in. H
