Grabbing one of his legs I hoisted him up onto my back and out of my house into the harsh rain. The feeling of pain spread throughout my body but knowing his condition was worse than mine kept me going.
Moments before I reached the pack house pain shot up my leg. I fell to the cold muddy ground with a thud. While Lucas must have fallen a few feet away from me with an even louder thud.
The rain was pounding down on us now. We had no protection and were sitting ducks. Then it happened again sharp teeth dug into my right leg and bit down causing a loud and painful scream to pass my lips.
The creatures sharp teeth started sinking into my right calf and it finished with my left one. The pain was immense and almost unbearable. Its sharp and deadly claws dug into my side as it rended me imbobless
Then it slowly clicked into place. It was a rouge. The border patrols wouldn't be able to sniff it out because the rain washes its scent away. This would have been a perfect crime if Lucas wasn't the next pack Alpha.
And then slowly, a warm feeling overcame me. It called my name as the pain dulled and I slowly drifted into a peaceful slumber.
*********
A nudge to my face woke me up. My eyes slowly fluttered open. Only to be met with darkness as if I was still sleeping. Something stood in front of me. Its presence screamed 'Power'. I think it was Lucas in his wolf form. After all, he was a future Alpha.
I tried to move but only cried out in pain. I started to breath heavy. The wolf started whimpering as I'd he was in pain too. But nonetheless I still moved and fought, however in the end I stopped and laid there, trying to even my breathing.
I soon became cold. I started shivering trying to maintain body heat.
The pain never left me but instead warmth met me. I instantly knew it was Lucas. I don't know how, but I knew. Something deep within told me he was here protecting me from the harsh rain. His tail curled around me. He nudged me once again, as if encouraging me to move or stand up. I shook my head and laid still.
Slipping into unconscious seemed to take the pain away.
And once again I allowed myself to fall asleep.
*******
A ferocious growl awoke me. The pain was intense as I slowly regained full conciseness. It was beyond anything I've ever felt before. A soft whimper came from above me. A tear rolled down my face till it hit the most likely colorful autumn leaves.
Soft crunching of the dead leaves filled my ears and a loud but aggressive growl. Cracking bones made me wince as I thought about the possibility of having broken bones of my own.
"Alpha calm down. We're here to help you and the girl".
"Lucas calm down. He's here to help". I gasped out. A whimper filled the air and this time it was not from me. Lucas must of allowed him to help me because two warm, strong hands were under me.
"Thank you". Was all I managed to get out before I fell into darkness once again.
Time had passed when I awoke next
"My sweet Abrianna. I'm always watching you."
Jolting up I let out an ear piercing scream. I kept on screaming till I felt tingles run up and down my arm. It calmed me. For some odd reason. It made me feel calm. So I stopped. I stopped my screaming and calmed down.
"Abrianna. You are okay." His tone was soft and demanding.
"Lucas?"
"I'm here love."
Nodding my head silently I leaned into his warmth and gave a sigh of content. This felt right. This made me feel safe and wanted. His hand stroked my hair softly as he spoke to me in a soft voice meant for children.
"I have to tell you this now. You're my mate and will become my Luna in time."
If I become your Luna, this pack will enter a war and chances of making it out alive are slim."
Two strong hands grip my shoulders and pull me away from all the negative thoughts. "My pack. Our pack if you accept me, will and would fight to the death to keep their Luna safe from harm." There was no use in talking to him now, his mind was made up.
And from there all we did was talk, just sitting and holding each other was all we needed to forget our worries and just live in that moment. Everything was perfect in this moment in time.
Everything felt right.
But one thing ran through my mind that I will never forget.
All good things must come to an end.
Little did I know how true that saying was.
