"How's the potion doing, doctor?" A child's voice entered Frank's laboratory. "It's almost done but the tricky part is that we lack a certain ingredient. I thought I could replace it with magnesium phosphate, but its component is much rare than I expected." "What is this component so that we can get on with our plans?" the child said, rumaging around the glasswares of the laboratory. "Pangoleens. They only bloom with the help of a dragon's blood." The doctor said, making the child stop on his tracks and changing the expression on his face. "If I try a few more formulas as replacement, we could definitely-" "No. I'll get it for you." He sneered as he walked away from the doctor. "Oh, and you better make sure my brothers and sisters wake up soon." "Yes, sir.." ---- "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA STOP JOKING!" Blythe continued to laugh at what Lance told her which made him take his hand back. "awe man, I haven't had a good laugh since I pooped my pants when I was a toddler." she said, wiping off tears from laughing so hard. She looked at Lance who didn't seem to be amuse. "wait... you're not joking...?" Blythe said but Lance didn't utter a word. She stormed out of her room and went to the throne room, the living room, and the bedroom of her parents but couldn't find them. Marriage? I'm only 17! Why would they plan something like that!? Growing up in this new world, they always made me think that what I feel is important. That my opinion mattered. They made me forget I had a past self. That it was a crappy one. I'm really thankful but this is absurd! I haven't even fallen in love with anyone yet and then I suddenly find out I'm going to get married???? She gasped in the middle of walking, not noticing she's been walking around the palace for an hour already. What if they want me to make a child!? I can't do that. I have no experience. s*x was the one thing most distant from me even as Chisuke.. I mean, sure, I wasn't so innocent w-with a-all those y-yaoi mangas but- She stopped on her tracks as she realized, she's never been to this part of the palace before. She roamed around for a bit and found scratch marks on the walls of the building and dried up blood stains on the ground where a flower with purple petals and blue edges bloom. "Are you done with your tantrum?" She heard a voice from behind her. It was Lance. "What...happened here.." She said with despair written on her face. "Long ago, the throne was challenged by a certain race who thought that the dragon race did not possess the ability to rule the kingdom. They were certainly a very smart race." Lance explained as he went near Blythe and looked at stains of blood that brought about history to all demons. *Flashback* -Edon period- "The goblins have been complaining that more and more of their people have been dying due to heroes on a quest. We must send assistance before the entire goblin race disappears!" A man with a straw hat yelled in the four-walled room. "Goblins are a weak race. I'm not saying they deserve it but we could protect the greater fraction of our kingdom like the lizardmen and orcs who have served and given our army the power needed for this war." The Elder Elf said. "Forgive me, but we don't need opinions from the race that have sat on this circle because of their seductive abilities." the straw-hatted man said. "Why, you, insolent shape shifter!" the elf raised his hand, about to hit the him. "That's enough, Polga!" The king said in a deep tone, making the elf elder sit down. "The elf elder is right. We focus on protecting our orcs and lizardmen." The king continued. "What!?" The man stood up from his seat in shock then started to laugh out of nowhere, making the entire room confused. "Is there a laughing matter, Seri?" Seri stopped laughing to the king's words. "I know now why... why we have depleted lands generation after generation." Seri said with a serious looks towards the king. "And why is that?" The king asked, Seri peeled off a piece of his skin, enduring the pain and threw it in front of the king. "I challenge the dragon race to a death match for the throne." The whole room murmured in shock. "You are crossing the line, shape shifter." "Your race has sat on that damn throne for years yet we are losing a lot of lands because our funds go to your p********e race." "YOU BRAT!" The elf elder reacted, standing up from where he sat. "This kingdom has been to many battles but we have never expanded our lands. Don't you think we already know about it, your highness? The funds that are supposed to be for our troops have magically decreased but the elf race has had more and more fundings for their prostitutes. Now, you may say this is a coincidence but the gold that's supposed to be for our frontliners have miraculously disappeared and at that same moment, the elfs has just made a chair made of gold meant for their elder elf. Oh, and I suppose that's still a coincidence? But you kept telling this circle about how our men are prepared for more battles and only one voice agrees in this room every damn time. And that's you, elder elf." Senri said with a glare towards the king and the elder elf. "That's ridiculous! Do you have any proof of what you're saying right now!?" The elder elf yelled. "Oh, I'll have proof... once you show me the tabloid account of the elf race where the king has given the funds and golds you guys practically stole from the people." The shape shifter glared at the old man. "Nonsense! You guys dont agree with this stupid shifter, right!?" The elder elf persuaded the foxtail elder and flugel elder. "As the second race, I can't deny that the amount of support for the races has been consistently decreasing. A death match is... more likely favorable for this situation. Besides, the dragon race has sat on the throne far too long. Comparing races on the throne would be very beneficial for up coming generations." The flugel elder said. "I agree with the flugel elder, here." The foxtail elder said. "THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!" The elder elf yelled. "Very well. A duel for the throne by dawn tomorrow. All demons shall be invited to come and watch." The demon king said as he exited the room. --- The next day came as Seri and all the other shape shifters who look almost like him were very excited. Just the the dragons, they were very small in number and have lived decently in a village. Due to their shape shifting abilities, they could copy a demon or human's skill when they change into a certain being. They've chosen the look of a man in a nearby human village who has a special skill called Cultivate that allows him to cultivate plants 10 times faster that normal humans. Though they may not have a true shape, they can identify each other using their orbs which resemble their hearts. When the news came to them that their leader will have a duel for the throne, everyone in their village rejoiced. "Seri, Seri!" A child shape shifter approached him. "Is it true? Are we really gonna have the throne?" He excited asked Seri. "Woah, woah. Slow down, Cole." Seri told that child as he carried him. "Not yet, okay? But I will make sure you get to eat palace food once we do get the throne." Seri told that child who excited clapped his hands, making the other older shifters to giggle. "By the way, out of all children in our village, why do you take the form of that child?" Seri asked Cole. "He's been idolizing this human kid who sings very well in the nearby village." A shape shifter said. "Yup! hehe She plays the ukelele and can weild a knife and we are the same age! Although, we haven't spoken, I feel like we've been really good friends!" Cole explained. The security became tighter for the kingdom as the demons prepared for the duel. In no time soon, it became dawn and everyone gathered at the duel arena. Many demons were witnesses to the great demon battle of the century. The king arrived at the arena with the crowd's cheering, mainly the elves. On the other side of the field, was Seri who was cheered on by other demons, especially his race. "This match will be between the king of dragons and of our lands and the challenger for the throne, shape shifter Seri." The demon sage proclaimed as the crowd's cheer grew wild. Meanwhile, on the borders of the country, Cole ran as fast as he could to make it to the match. "Damn it! I got too caught up in Maggie's singing again!" he said as he ran the fastest he can and eventually tripped on a tree branch making his knee bleed. He felt tears swelling up his eyes as he heard a rustle by the bush. His heart pounded fast, thinking it was one of the bandits that have been roaming around at day, or so what his elders scare him. When the rustle stopped, a little girl with red hair holding a ukelele appeared before him. It was Maggie. This time, he was more frightened than ever that she would be creeped out that he looked exactly like her but with raggy clothes. Maggie drew close to him as he closed his eyes in fear that she might hit him with the ukelele. Instead, he felt something wrap around his knee. "Uh...?" "It's okay. You don't need to be scared. I knew you were real." She smiled at him that made him intently blush. He stood up from where he was and ran away from her. "Wait!" Maggie said as he halted. "Will you come by again?" She said making him nod before completely running away. When he got back to the village, his folks were already back and the word has spread that Seri had won the match leaving a very b****y battle field. They all celebrated for Seri's coronation on the next day. The years went on and the demons had claimed back a lot of lands due to many victories in the battle field. Cole on the other hand, has grown up and still taken the form of Maggie but as a man. He has asked Seri that he would like to keep the nearby village in tact without being harmed by the demons which was automatically approved by king Seri. He has spent most of his time with Maggie and they have been much closer than ever. Even developing feelings for one another. The demon kingdom was flourished with good fortune. Until.. "These are offerings from the Elves who would like to make peace with the shape shifters after rebelling for so many years. The demon mage has tested them and they all turned out to be legit gifts with no hidden poison. Even king Seri has tasted them and said that they were delicious edibles." A shape shifter announced to their village. Everyone fiested on the edible food with joy. Although some refused, thinking it may be a plot against them, some ate and trusted that they were from the pure intentions of the elves. "Hey, Cole! You should try these! They're so delicious!" One of the shape shifters offered Cole who was in a hurry to meet Maggie. "Nah! You guys, eat up my share. I have to be somewhere else! See ya!" He said before running away from them. "Man, he's so in love with that girl, isn't he?" a shape shifter said, stuffing his face with the food. "Tell me about it." another said while munching. -- "Mags!" Cole called out as Maggie stood up from sitting with her ukelele. "Cole.." She said smiling at him which made his heart skip a beat. They spent the afternoon together, playing songs and telling stories and jokes. Cole felt that it was time he told her who he is. "Hey, remember when you found me in the forest crying with a scrapped knee?" Cole said. "Oh yeah," Maggie giggled. "You looked like a little puppy wolf who lost his mother back then." she said. "H-hey, let's not get into details." he said, embarrassed. "You know, it meant a whole lot to me. it was the first time you approached me who have been looking at you ever since you transferred to this village. You were a silent little girl with sorrowful eyes who held her ukelele tightly like it meant her whole life. At that time, I was very curious with you since this village is usually just filled with adults and old people. But as days pass by, you made me feel these unbelievable feelings that I have never felt before. It made me very guilty that we got to this point with me lying. Maggie, the truth is..." "That you're a shape shifter?" She said. Cole was shocked at what she said. "How--" "C'mon Cole, it's not normal to find someone who looks like you everyday." She said jokingly. "At first I thought I was crazy that I've been seeing myself from a distant every time I play my ukelele but that reflection of me drew much closer that it felt like a different person that I'd wanna spend time with." She cupped his face and rubbed his cheek with her thumb. This made Cole very happy. The days passed by with them enjoying each others company even more now that there were no secrets between them. But it didn't go on for long. The shape shifter village has been infected with an incurable plague that only them were infected. Except for Cole and few more others, everyone was sickly. Those who weren't sick decided to care for them and tend to their needs. It was bit by bit that the number sick people turned to graves. Soon, news came out that the king had been infected with the same disease. It wasn't long before he passed away as well and the throne once again belonged to the dragons. The number of shape shifters has lessened and those who were left had to carry with them the deaths of their beloveds. One night, a fire started on the village of the shape shifters. Cole woke up in a panic, stepping outside to see their village engulfed with fire. "Where are the others!?" Cole said to one of the shape shifters who was also panicking and couldn't answer. "We should wake up everybody before they all burn inside their houses." Cole said as they both ran around each house to wake up their fellow shape shifters. Cole got inside this house which was fully engulged in fire. Inside was a kid who was crying in front of his parents who were compressed by a big pile of wood from their ceiling. "Please..save..him.." The last words of the mother before passing out. Cole clossed his eyes and carried the child out. When they were out he saw the shape shifter he instructed look at him and waved his hand to assure that he got everyone out in time. He was about to wave back when suddenly, that shape shifter had blood all over him and continued to release more. Cole looked at who was behind him and it was an imperial elf soldier. His eyes widen as he met with the soldier's eyes. He carried the child to run away and ran to Maggie's village. Thankfully, she woke up from Cole's call. She went out to meet him who has ashes around his face. "What's going on!? What happened!?" Maggie asked. "I'll explain later. For now, can you hide him for me?" Cole said, referring to the child. "Alright.." Maggie said with much worry in her face. Cole knelt down to the child and placed his head against his. "I share with you my memories and life, that you may know what your people are and how we lived as you may live like us." He casted a spell enabling him to share his emotions, feelings, and memories with the child before returning back to his village. The child was pulled inside by Maggie as she watched Cole went back to the forest that separates her village from their's. A while later, a torch was lit up in the forest. Anticipating that it was Cole's she hurried out only to finds demons look at her with eyes that would hunt to kill. She hurried inside and carried the child on the wooden floor of her home. "Stay here." She told him before closing up the lid of the wooden floor. The child peaked at the small hole and saw demons approaching Maggie. "Where's the shape shifter?" The demon asked. "What shape shifter? I've never heard of such nonsense!" "Stop lying, human. we know you're hiding one." The demon yelled. "Sir..she looks just like the shape shifter from earlier." Another demon whispered into his ears making him smirk. "You lying pathetic shape shifter." He said before slicing off her body. The child's eyes widen and tears began to form. "Let's go back to the village to see any survivors." He said. "Hic-" the child let out a cry making the soldier draw near where he was. The soldier looked around as the child cried looking up this huge demon above him. Not finding anything, he turned around and left the house. "Burn this village. we never know if this is also a shape shifter's hiding spot." He instructed the other soldier who immediately set fire into Maggie's village. Morning came and the child stood in a burned down village with ashes still roaming around. His eyes became darker and his body distorted. He shape shifter into a young Maggie as he looked at the burnt body of Maggie with anger and rage. He was given the emotion to love Maggie as well as the memories they have spent together. This kingdom will fall and when it does, I'll be sure to burn it down to the ground. -- "Soon after, the dragon race sat on the throne again as king after king Seri died. And no shape shifter survived the plague. There were attempts by the other race for the throne but no one could defeat the dragon race." Lance said as Blythed touched the dried up blood on the wall. "But why does it feel like it has something more to tell. A more sad and twisted story than the ones written in our history books." "You're over imagining things." Lance said smirking at what she said. "But what if I'm not." She said as she looked at Lance with an angry look. "I'm sure there's at least one shape shifter who survived the plague. And if it's true.. then I'd feel really bad that he had to carry a very heavy loss." She said looking down on the flowers that grew on the dried up blood of her ancestor. Lance sighed and went near her to pat her head. "You're always like this even from before." He uttered. "What do you mean? Have we even met before!? Hey, don't touch me." She said as she shoved Lance's hand away. He smirked and walked away from her. "Weren't you looking for your dad? I heard he's in the throne room now." Lance said leaving her behind. "Hey, wait!" She said as she ran towards him leaving the empty blood stained place. "Not bad princess." A child's voice said, picking up the blooming pangoleen flowers. "I'm sure you'll understand if I use you." He said looking at the flower he picked. "Although, you have a very keen eye when it comes to history." He said before walking into complete darkness and disappeared from the building. *To be continued
