Chapter 5

I quickly snap off the ends of the arrows carefully leaving enough of the arrows in my body, so I do not get any of the snapped off arrows’ splinters flowing into my blood stream. As soon as the arrows are all snapped off, I slowly push the end farthest from my body onto the nearest plate to find the pattern. As soon as I push the plate arrows started flying out and I use my quick reflexes to grab two of them, I do not want to run out of arrows to press the plates with and since there is a chance I might hit a plate that pours hot liquid on top of me I will need to be extra vigilant with how far back I am away from the hot zone of the plates. Yes, I can survive liquid being poured on me, but I would much rather not have that happen.             I quickly figured out the pattern system to the plates for the second part of the room’s traps and made a dash across stepping only on the plates that shot arrows or poured liquid, the arrows hurt like hell and thank God the liquid took a second longer to fall than initially thought. I was quickly able to get out of the trap zone and into what looked like a cave system with three different paths I could take. One of the paths was missing the torch in front of where it started, so my guess was that was the way my mother went and hopefully she had not found any danger a long the way. I slowly crept up to the other path and grabbed its torch, as soon as I did so that path started to crumble on top of itself and I quickly backed away and almost stepped on the plates. Time felt like it had gone from a normal speed to only turtle speed when the rocks fell, it felt like years had passed before all the dust had settled and the world finally lit up again.     She has been out for far too long; I wonder what is wrong. Ms. Thornbrut thought to herself about every possible thing that could have happened to make this go any differently, but right as she was about to think of what was happening her whole coven showed up. “What the hell did you call us all here for Margarette?!” Shouted the leader of the group, a fat stumpy impish woman with hair of a natural moss green color and warts covering her whole face. Honestly the most disgusting thing to look at in the whole world and her name was Agatha Gertrude, which is such a fitting name for how she looked. She looked down to stare upon Opal who was bleeding from different places on her body and Maggy immediately fell down on the floor to study the wounds, they were small but the entry had a triangular puncture to both sides with a half-inch hole in the center. Maggy screamed and quickly tried to grab some rags to stop the bleeding, but Agatha had other plans she quickly yelled for the rest of the coven to come downstairs and to conjure up some chains. “I will ask this only once Margarette, what did you do to the girl?” “She came here looking for help, she found out about what kind of beast killed all those students over at the college and she was afraid it was her. I had her sit down and preformed the ancient ritual to find out what she was and then she passed out. When she woke, I told her what she was and she passed out again, I have been sitting here watching her ever since I called you. The bleeding JUST started right when you entered the room and I have no idea what is wrong with her, but the wounds are arrows of some sort.” “WHAT IS SHE?” Agatha hissed becoming very impatient with how Maggy was delivering the news. “She is a Tri-bred, to be precise, one we have never encountered before.” “SPIT IT OUT NOW MARGARETTE OR I WILL HAVE YOU CHAINED FOR INSUBORDINATION!” “She was born a witch just like her mother, but her grandfather had the vampire genes. They laid dormant in her mother and herself until the spell her mother cast to turn her into what she is. She is a dragon Agatha. I thought they were only myth, which is why I called you. No one has ever seen a dragon, at least no one still alive anyway. What are we going to do to her?” “Bring out your old cauldron Margarette and chain her just above it. To prove what you say we will have to burn her in order to see the truth.”             As Margarette was putting on the chains she realized what was happening with Opal, she was in some sort of dream state that was real to her body and that is what was causing her to bleed. Somehow in her dream Opal had been shot by an arrow of some sort and whatever made the huge hole in her arm, but her body was registering it as real-life damage. This was something only a spell could do, either that or she was somehow dreaming of the past. Hopefully Opal didn’t take any more damage while in her dream state or else something terrible was going to happen to her body.             After the chains were put up all the other coven leaders started there chanting to get the cauldron brewing Maggie thought, if Opal really was a dragon she would not die from the fire. However, Agatha never took into the fact that Opal isn’t just a dragon. There is no telling what would happen to Opal the moment she was dropped into the cauldron of fire, but it was too late to try and change Agatha’s mind. Once something was set into stone in Agatha’s mind it stayed that way no matter the consequences and that is how she lost her family, by following those same principles.
