Chapter 11 - Rooms

1534 Words
The kitchen had burners powered by gas, but soon they knew the power was going to go off. The outbreak of aliens had been all over the news or at least the last time they saw the news. The tv didn't work. They might have to resort to a generator for the house's electricity. They roughly last up to 10 to 20 years so it'd last for a good time. "Mhmm. Thanks, chef Blade." Lily teased, biting into her omelet. "You're welcome, Lily." He chuckled. "Glad you like it." Blade had worn casual attire. He had been doing so for a while now. Being on vacation and everything. Vacation as in alien apocalypse. Whatever that means. He had on a loose gray t-shirt and tight jeans. It felt weird for sure. He was so used to wearing his suit and tie for work and business matters. It was spring now. Everyone was moaning in delight at the simple breakfast served to them by Blade. Who knew he could cook so well. Lily was thankful, it was good to have a homemade meal. "I might have lost my appetite," Zane announced as soon as Cherry and Jax sat down at the kitchen table. "Oh, but you should eat," Angelica told him. "If you insist." He mumbled. He was already tired of the room arrangements. Well, it didn't take much but this was unreal. Jax and his girl keep going in the room doing "rated R" kinda things. It was disgusting. Now he would do anything to switch rooms. Anything. "I hate the room arrangements. I'll do anything- anything to share a room with another." Zane's lips moved, almost instantly as those thoughts entered his mind. He couldn't hold it in. "You know that may mean sharing a room with the opposite gender," Blade responded honestly. "That's fine. I don't care." He didn't care. So what if he has to share with a girl. It didn't change much with Cherry barging in the room 24/7 eating Jax's face off. Plus, it'd be the girl who would have to worry about sharing a room with him. Though, he's decent not like everyone assumes by his appearance. "Cherry can switch." Jax blurted out. He had a dirty smile on his face that was indifferent from Cherry's. She looked irritated. "That alright?" Blade turned to her she nodded her head slowly. "Fine."  She shrugged. "So, Cherry you share Jax's room. Zane, you share Angelica's room. Oh, and no funny business, is that clear?" Blade asked, sternly. They all responded, 'Yes, sir! Though, Jax already having that on his mind, knew he wouldn't abide by it. "Hold up, wait a minute." Andy raised a hand. "Aren't y'all gonna ask Angelica if she's fine with this. I mean, shouldn't she get a say in this?" "Yes, you are right, Andy,  thank you for bringing this to my attention." Blade clapped his hands together and cleared his throat. "Angelica, are you hearing this? would you be comfortable sharing a room with Zane?" Angelica's eyes wandered everywhere but on Zane's piercing blue eyes. She felt her heart pounding, her lips dry, and she couldn't think clearly. Did she have much of a choice? She knew it'd help Zane out if she said yes. However, Zane still scared the s**t outta her. She thought back to the ring and how quick Zane was to pin her down and force her into submission. That fight wasn't even fair. But she didn't stand a chance going up against him. "...y-yeah...it's o-okay..." She lied. ... It was dark in the room. The blackness encircled the walls, floors, beds, and the only light was the speck of moonlight casting onto a small section of the wall. Angelica changed in the bathroom into her nightgown. She didn't so much as take a glance on the left side of the room- where she knew Zane would be laying on his bed. It was so quiet she could hear Zane's soft breathing. She felt a smile growing on her face. She wasn't alone. She had a man sleeping in the same room as her. A man who knew how to kick ass, and how to survive in this wretched world. Wasn't she supposed to be intimidated by him? Not comforted? She sighed in relief when she suddenly heard movement from the left side of the room. "Uh, Angel...are you still awake?" Zane croaked out. He was propped up on one elbow, looking at her. Okay, just ignore him. Pretend to be asleep. Should work she thought. A minute passed she was watching the door and trying to force sleep to come. She heard Zane moving around, shifting his feet as though he was coming to her side of the room. She realized he probably was coming to her side of the room. s**t. "Hey, you are awake!" He smirked standing by her bedside. "No! No-uh I'm not. Please, don't hurt me!" She flinched, shielding herself. "Why would I do that?" He chuckled. "I don't know." She hid under her covers just like a kid would do to hide from the monster under the bed. "I was just wondering if you were having trouble sleeping too." He frowned. "You can't sleep?" "No, not at all." Zane was standing there shirtless his arms crossed and a frown tugging at his lips. Angelica noticed something on his chest, a scar. It was on his right side. He seemed to follow her eyes, and his eyes darkened. "Don't ask." He said, quickly. "But-" He cut her off. "Just go to sleep, Angelica." He left the room after that. It was suddenly cold in the room. Angelica felt his empty presence. She wondered why he was so upset. Where did the scar come from? That night Zane didn't return, and Angelica eventually found sleep. She didn't need to worry about him being in the room now. But she was left alone in the room. - "Alright, today guys I am going out to buy generators for the house," Blade announced to everyone seated at the kitchen table. "Are we all going?" Nixon asked. "We can split up. A group comes to get the generator, another gets more food. We need to save up supplies before it's all gone," Nixon nods at Blade. "Angelica you and Zane are on food, Nixon you come with me to get the generator. The rest of you watch the house." "Aw, man that sucks," Andy says, munching on cereal. "Jax,  I trust you to be alert and armed, just in case the aliens show up." Blade winks at Jax before shutting the door behind him. "Looks like I'm the boss now." Jax laughs loudly. "Hey, hand me one," Andy demands looking at the stash of guns. "I can watch out for those monsters too." "You sure little girl-" Andy plants a hard foot in Jax's gut causing him to groan and hold onto his stomach. "Call me little girl again, I dare you." She hisses seizing the gun from his hand. "You kick hard, god damn!" Cherry ran to Jax's side asking him if he's alright, he pushes her back. "I'm fine." He says, standing up smirking at Andy. "Andy, you can't just go around kicking people." Cherry scolds. "Alright, well, neither can Jax go around hoarding all the guns, and all the fun." She counters, checking if the gun is loaded. "I mean, look at this bad boy," She plants a kiss on the AK-47 rifle holding it close like it's her baby. "You're quite the clingy one." Lily laughs, from the sideline. "Oh, I thought you would've gone with, Blade," Andy says. "Well, funny that they all went in the order of who is sharing rooms. Blade, Nixon, and Zane and Angelica," Cherry points out. - It was silent, no one talked. Blade drove and Nixon sat in passenger, Angelica and Zane sat in the back both looking out their windows. It was midday, the sun was in hiding, and the wind was picking up. Zane could see buildings passing by, trees, stores, old homes, and no people in sight. It was deserted. "Alright, go on bring food back, and stick together." Blade continued, "Hold up, take these with you." He handed them both handguns. "For safety." He added. ... They went to Walmart and inside it looked vacant no one was there. The place was trashed. Zane moved the gun around walking slowly assessing his surroundings attentively. Angelica stayed close to Zane afraid she'd get lost, or something was going to jump out and get her. "They must've been here," Zane said. "Who?" Angelica looked up at him. "The aliens. Look at the place." Blade had to drive farther out to reach any grocery stores. After all, they lived out in the country now. The only good thing about that was no people, which means no panicking, and stealing for survival. "Let's hurry and get some food.  Just enough to last a good while." Zane grabbed an arm full of cans, box meals, and cartons of milk. Angelica got candy bars, thinking everyone would appreciate a good treat. She also got other foods that don't expire easily. ...
