Sighing heavily, I listened to the sound of David's voice on the opposite end of the phone. It had been twenty four hours since the last events and I had to call and apologize to my dear friend for missing his party. Of course, I didn't tell him the actual truth of why I missed out on his twenty third birthday bash. I knew that he'd make it into a bigger deal than it was and all that mattered was I made it out alive with only a few bruises on my stomach area and a cut on my lip.
"I'm sorry man. I'll make it up to you. I don't know why and how I got so sick all of a sudden especially since I rarely throw up." I lied.
"You're good, dude!" David exclaimed. "You should call your dad and see what's going on with yourself though."
"I'd rather die." I shot back causing David to laugh loudly on the phone. I chuckled a bit as I pulled the door to the cafe opened and entered. I waved to the waitresses and cashier who stood around with warm smiles on their faces.
"I'll talk with you later." David said.
"Alright." I replied as I looked over at the table to see Jade was not there. Hanging up, I sat at my normal table as the waitress gave me a nod and went behind the counter to prepare my coffee.
Jade. Her name was Jade. I remembered her name clearly as I replayed the memory of us meeting in my head the entire night. After she introduced herself, she threatened me and told me to never grab her before storming away. I didn't know what came over me but I asked her if she would meet me here at three PM but she kept walking. I wasn't sure if she would show up but I had many questions.
She was definitely an odd individual. She was beautiful in such a creepy way and I had no clue if that sounded like a compliment but it was the only way for me to describe her. There was something about her eyes that held this coldness as if she hated everyone yet there was something soft about them at the same time.
Suddenly, the door sounded causing me to look up. Immediately, Jade's eyes landed on me and I mentally sighed in relief that she had showed up. I took in her appearance as she wore her hair down, and a black sweatshirt with matching sweatpants to match. She sat at her normal table and kept her eyes on me the entire time. The waitress came over and sat my cup of coffee on my table and gave me a soft smile but I was too distracted to even smile back.
"I'm not coming to you." Jade called out from her table. Sighing heavy, I smiled at the waitress as she weirdly looked between Jade and I before walking away. Grabbing the coffee, I stood up and made my way to Jade's table before taking a seat. She leaned back and tossed me an uninterested look.
"What?" She said.
"I want to thank you again for saving my ass last night." I started.
Jade scoffed. "We established that last night. Is this why you asked me to meet you here?"
Leaning across the table, I whispered harshly. "Do you have to be such a pain in the ass?"
Raising a brow, Jade leaned forward. "Yes."
"Let's not pretend that you wouldn't have come here either because you sit in the same spot every single day and watch my every move."
"Great now get to your point." She demanded.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Jade Dion."
"Where are you from?"
"A place."
"What kind of place?"
"A place where I'm from." She replied.
Leaning back, I sighed heavily. She was beautiful and there was no denying that but she was also a rude individual who I could tell would cause me more than enough problems.
"This is a waste of time. Stay away from me or else." I threatened.
"Okay."
"Now answer this since you won't tell me where you're from." I started as she turns her attention back to me. "Why were you cold?"
Jade stared at me for a bit and I could see the cold stare that she held dropped and I was greeted with the familiarity softness that her eyes usually held which caused something to stir inside of me. Jade cleared her throat.
"I'm from Savannah, Georgia." She revealed.
"Why are you cold?"
"Harry, life works in mysterious ways. There are many things out there that you know absolutely nothing about. In my world, we learn about certain individuals who are called soulmates." She started.
"What?" I asked only to be cut off by her speaking again.
"You and I are soulmates." She revealed.
I stared at the girl as if she was crazy before laughing loudly. I covered my mouth and leaned down as my stomach tightened up letting me know that I was laughing a bit too hard yet I could not stop. Jade crossed her arms across her chest and watched me coldly as I calmed down from my laughter fit.
"You're a good one for that. There's no such thing as soulmates! You just find someone you really love and stick with that person until you die." I said.
"Yeah and most of them are wrong then when they die they end up seeing who their real soulmate is and from there they sit back back soulless wondering what could have been." Jade shot back.
"Oh yeah? How do you know this?" I asked obviously creeped out by the girl.
"We are soulmates." She answered. Shaking my head, I stood up quickly and grabbed my coffee. I took a few dollars out of my pocket before handing it to the waitress who walked by me. She smiled softly as she walked towards the register.
"Would you like your receipt?" She asked.
"No." I replied. I looked back at Jade and shook my head. "You stay far away from me and I mean it."
Storming out of the cafe, I marched to my car before getting inside slamming the door behind me. Who knew a woman so beautiful could be so crazy? I knew my next move would be a restraining order because she would find a way to stalk me still. Putting the car in reverse, I backed out of the familiar parking lot as Jade sat in the same spot staring at me through the window.
I laid across my bed as the darkness surrounded me. It had been hours since I left the cafe and it was now nighttime. I was preparing to finally go to sleep since I knew I had classes tomorrow afternoon yet I struggled to get comfortable enough to sleep. There were many unanswered questions that went through my mind regarding Jade Dion yet the eerie character made me extremely uncomfortable that I wanted absolutely nothing to do with her.
As I turned on my side, I could hear the sound of crashes coming from the living room causing me to sit up quickly. I knew it had to be David sneaking his way in with some stupid prank to get back at me for not attending his party but I wasn't in the mood for his games. I pinched the bridge of my nose before standing up. I placed a hand in one of the pockets of my grey sweats and tossed on the dark grey shirt that sat in the chair at the end of my bed. I put it on and walked to the door. As I placed my hand on the knob, I could hear the sound of unfamiliar voices.
"We just have one job and it is simple." One of the men said.
"I know, Peter. We kill this guy and go back." The other said causing me to lock the door quickly.
"She will have no choice but to return then." The other said as he chuckled evilly. I walked towards the huge window in my room before pushing the curtain back and opening it. I put a foot out and prepared to leave only to stop by the sound of grunts and groans from the opposite end of the door. I stared at the door as the sounds stopped. Suddenly, the door was kicked open and I was greeted by Jade standing there.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." She said. On cue, I could hear the sound of voices and looked down to see a group of men in all black staring up at me. They shouted out a few demands before running into the building. Quickly, I stepped inside and closed the window as Jade looked around.
"What the hell is going on?" I asked.
"Hurry and throw some shoes on!" She demanded. I quickly grabbed the closest pair of sneakers which were black converses at the end of my bed and stuck my feet in them. I heard the front door of my apartment open as Jade ran out.
"Jade!" I shouted. I walked out of the room to see Jade throwing punches left and right at the men who all stepped in and attacked. She dodged just about every punch as she kicked and punched the men.
"Move!" She shouted towards me. I turned around to see one of the men coming towards me with a knife. Kicking him, I watched as he flew back and slammed into the wall with a thud.
I'll be evicted by tomorrow for a noise complaint.
I punched one of the other men in the face as he swung at me while Jade stood on the other side of the living room and knocked the men out. I stopped and looked around at the men that I had managed to knock out. Turning around towards Jade, I watched as she snapped one of the men's necks. Suddenly, another man appeared behind her. Running towards him, I punched him square in the face causing him to back up. Picking up the chair from the small table in the corner of my living room, I slammed the chair onto the man's head knocking him out.
"Thanks." Jade said as she stood there in her glory as if she hadn't just fought at least twenty men at once. She looked at the table and grabbed my keys before running out of the apartment with me following behind her. I watched as she claimed into the drivers seat as I went to the passengers seat.
"Do you know how to drive?" I asked only for her to scoff. Jade put the key into the ignition before backing out of the parking lot quickly. I rubbed my face in panic as I looked around to make sure no one was following the both of us. Jade kept her attention on the road as she seemed to be deep in thought. The coldness in her eyes had returned as she shook her head.
"What just happened? Who are those people? How did you know to be there?" I asked.
Jade rolled her eyes. "I knew this would happen sooner or later."
"Try were cold like their skin felt like ice." I mumbled to myself as I stared at the floor. Jade turned her head to me for a second before quickly putting her eyes back on the road.
"They were after you because of me. They knew that I'd be around you so they think the only way for me to go back is by killing you." She explained.
"Kill me for what?" I asked.
"I told you we were soulmates!" She hissed.
Shaking my head, I rubbed a hand through my brown locks. “Why were they cold?"
Jade shook her head. "They're cold because they're dead, Harry. They were all corpses."
"What?" I asked.
"There's a reason why my skin is cold, there's a reason why they want me to go back to a place, and there's a reason why I knew you were my soulmate. I knew you were my soulmate because when one dies, their life flashes before their eyes and they see their soulmate. Those men who attacked you want me to return to the land of the undead." She revealed.
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" I asked as I stared at my hands.
Jade turned her head towards me. "I'm dead, Harry."
