1201 Words
Akpaka was the only son of Odo but the problem of Odo was that he was not able to give birth to another child and the wife had been worried ever since Akpaka turned six and yet no other cry of a child was heard in the family of Odo. He became too worried that he began to suspect his wife was responsible for their misfortune. He would not talk to her sometimes and most times the woman would be in her room, crying and begging Odo to see reasons with her and understand that she had nothing to do with what happened to them and that she was not a witch as he always called her. "I am not a witch my husband. I was not a witch before I gave you a son and you named him Akpaka why now would you believe and call me a witch. If I was a witch would I have allowed your child, your first child to come into this world? I would not have, instead I would have refused him entering this world but I did not. I gave birth to him after I bore him for nine months. Why would you accuse me now my husband?" she had tried bitterly but Odo paid no ears to her pleas. This troubled his wife to an extent and one Odo woke up in the morning and found out that his wife had left his home. He was troubled as he went to the hut where their only son was sleeping and found him still on bed. He was even more troubled as he decided to look for his wife in the neighbouring houses. When he got there he was told that they had nor seen his wife that morning. Odo decided to pay a visit to the village where his wife came from. He went to her father's house and was told that she was not seen there that morning. The husband became even more troubled. When he returned to his house from his wife's village he found out that his son was no longer in his hut as well. He was became alarmed searching until noon. He was forced to go to on of the seers of his town and when he got there he was told that his wife and child were alright and that nothing bad had happened to them but they had been taken away by a spirit lord and that the lord had taken them to a land called icheku. "The spirit lord has heard you serval times as you bashed your wife. He visited your home several times and witnessed you bashing your wife. He was not happy with the way you spoke to your wife and the way you never showed signs of gratefulness. The spirit lord said before he came to your home, " There is a man who is ungrateful. We have given him a good wife and a handsome son yet he is not satisfied with them. It is a pity that this man chose to be ungrateful. I am not going to allow him to enjoy what he has outwardly said he is not interested in. I will go to his land and to his home and take that which he has shown no concern for" As the seer said thus the heart of Odo began to beat faster as he wondered if the seer meant what he was saying or if he was joking about it all.. "Are you really serious with what you are saying to me? Are you really serious about a lord, some lord spirit coming to take my family? If you are serious how then can I get my family back from him. I need my family back from him. It is dangerous for a man to wake up in the morning and can not find his family whom he saw sleeping the night before. I want my family back great one" Pleaded Odo. "What do you have to say about what the lord spirit said concerning your ungratefulness?" asked the Seer. "I may have shown signs of ungratefulness but I am truly proud of my family" said Odo as he appeared more worried. "But you never showed it. Instead you showed the opposite of what you are saying to me now. I wonder if you understand the gravity of what has just happened to you and to your family. I must tell you, if you want your family back to you then you will have a case to settle with the lord spirit. I pray he listens to you" said the seer as he was about to stand and leave Odo seated right there Odo threw in another question. "How I do meet this lord and how do I plead at him?" The seer turned to look at Odo, "You have not yet met with him, are you serous that you have not met with him? But you have met him and he is the one seated right before you" At that point the seer disappeared and then the real seer of the shrine walked in and said, "Oh Odo you are here to see me? Who have you been speaking with? I overhead you speaking with someone just as I was about to enter" Odo did not speak for a long time as he sat three thinking of what just happened. He was not sure if he was awake or dreaming. The seer sat and realising that he was unable to say a word touched him and Odo gasped. "Are you okay?" he asked him. "Yes I am. I am okay wise one. You are right. I was actually discussing with someone before you came in. Sorry to ask you, have you heard of anyone by the name lord spirit?" After he had said this the Seer sat and appeared shocked. "Where did you hear that name?" he asked. "Just here and not long ago. He was actually the one I was speaking with" said Odo and the Seer sat down. "You have seen the wisest spirit and you should be lucky" said the seer. "Lucky? He has taken my family from me and you are saying I am lucky?" Said Odo and the Seer was dumbfounded. He tried to understand what Odo meant and Odo made it clear that the lord spirit took his family away from him and explained to him how everything happened and all that the lord spirit said to him. The seer was more dumbfounded. "What I want to know now is how to locate the lord spirit and get back my family" said Odo. As he said this the Seer began to talk . "If actually the lord spirit took away your family then you will have to go to a land called the lords. only there will you be able to find him" When the seer said this Odo wanted to know where and how to locate this land rhe seer spoke of. The seer explained everything to him and he stood up and sadly left. The seer shook his head pitifully and went about his daily work.
