The Werewolf King's Maid Mate

Chapter 4

Kelathari’s POV

I faintly start to hear some beeping noises that sounds like it is coming from machines next to me. My head is still feeling very painful and the rest of my body feels like it is also aching. I try to open my eyes but they remain shut as my body is still trying to recover.

I hear some muffled voices in the background.

“How is she doing doctor?” This comes from a male voice I do not recognise.

“She’s healing well, it may take a few hours for her to wake up though, it was a nasty break to her jaw. We had to give her a few units of blood as she lost quite a lot. Luckily she came to us quick enough so that we could set her jaw back into place so it wouldn’t finish healing badly. I kick started the majority of the healing process with my aura but she needs to do the last bit of healing herself. Don’t worry she will safe here with us” an unknown female voice replied.

As soon as I hear that I realise I must be at the pack medical centre, I then start to remember everything that happened at the breakfast table. With Amalia standing up the the Alpha and then he hit me and I fell to the ground. The king’s beta came and used her body to protect me from any further punishment from the Alpha. I will have to thank her for that when I wake up.

At least with me being in the pack’s medical centre the Alpha would never come in here to punish me further or his pack would turn their backs on him. I feel some bandages around my face which I assume must be holding my jaw in place for it to heal. So I take the rest whilst I can, letting my body do it’s own healing and letting my dreams run wild. I dream of one day being free and no longer being the subject to the violence of Alpha James. The freedom to run with my wolf in open fields and not having to do what anyone tells me.

A few hours later I begin to stir still feeling pain although it has eased slightly. I feel someone holding my hand. I start to open my eyes and realise it’s the kings beta. She has fallen asleep in the chair next to me. I look around the side room that I have been put into. There is some pleasant art to look at in the wall in front of me, the lights have been dimmed which I assume was to help me sleep more comfortably, the tv in the corner has been put on a random news channel. I continue to scan the room looking pst the beta asleep next to me and the male I now know as the king was sat in the corner staring at me. It made me feel very uncomfortable knowing that I was in such a mess in the kings presence. I try to sit myself up to make myself more presentable.

“You shouldn’t try to move, your body needs the rest to heal. You don’t have your wolf for a few days still so it will take you a bit longer to heal” he says standing up and walking towards me. All I can do is nod in response, my movement had also woken up the beta female.

“Oh wonderful you are finally awake I was getting quite concerned. We haven’t been formally introduced my name is Angelique I am King Benjamin’s beta” I realise that she is squeezing my hand whilst telling me this.

Then I realise that I am unable to reply to anyone because of the bandages around my face, so I reach towards them to take them off.

“Wait, let me fetch the doctor to see if your jaw has started to set. If not you will have to leave the bandage on for a bit longer” the king disappears out of my room’s door.

“Don’t judge the king before you get to know him, he truly is a gentle soul”.

I just stare at her confused why she is even telling me this, it makes no difference to me. As long as I don’t disrespect him I shouldn’t get punished, that’s all I care about.. not getting on the bad side of another male in my life.

When I was younger I used to be terrified of other males because of the way the Alpha treated me. Then I met Demetrius and Amalia, I used to flinch a lot whenever he came near me scared that he would punish me in the same way. But he never did, it gave me hope that not all men were like the Alpha and hopefully whenever I found my mate he would never hit me.

“Ahhhh you’re awake my dear, my name is Doctor Serena, I am the head of the pack’s healers and I have been looking after you ever since your.. erm.. incident with the Alpha. We should be able to take the bandages off from around your face now your jaw is healing quite well. However you must take rest over the next few days” As she is explaining this all to me she’s starts to undo the bandages around my face.

Both the king and his beta stare at me intensely whilst this process is happening. Another nurse comes inside the room to start taking out all of the various drips I was attached too.

“How do you feel? I tried to heal you as much as possible, but your injuries were quite bad. It took a lot out of me to heal you this far through” she looks away to hide her disappointment.

“I think you did a wonderful job, thank you for your kindness doctor! I feel so much better” I try to smile but the pain gets too much.

I hear I sigh of relief, I look over at the king and his beta, they both look visibly more relieved.

“Beta Angelique, thank you so much for shielding me from further punishment I appreciate it”

“Hey, just call me Angie! And it was my pleasure, your Alpha was being barbaric not even letting you sit and eat”

The king just stands there in silence with his arms crossed still staring at me.

“Okay Kelathari, you need plenty of bed rest in the warmth, so remember to light the fireplace in your room okay?” The doctor is scribbling some things down onto a clipboard.

“Doctor I don’t have a fireplace, my room is the shed. I know that you are a new doctor here but I am not allowed to stay in the pack house. Usually the Alpha doesn’t allow me to be healed either, so thank you for making this time a painless process”

“This time? Just how many times has this happened to you Kelathari, when we did some x-rays on you we saw a lot of broken bones that haven’t healed very well, but I didn’t realise this was from being beaten. Is that why you have so much bruising? But there is no medical records for you to previously being treated”

“Because usually I go to my shed to heal. Then Amalia and Demetrius would come bring me food and help me stitch my wounds. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you”

“You can stay in this hospital room for a few days, I can’t let you go back out there when you aren’t fully healed.”

“You can leave the Alpha to me, make sure she is looked after well Doctor” the king finally speaks. I hadn’t noticed but he had become angry again, his eyes turning black. That must be his wolf coming through, he has very good self control over it.

“My king I appreciate the help, but honestly I am just a maid I know my place in this pack. I don’t want to waste resources in the medical centre in case others need it”

“WASTE..WASTE! Your Alpha was about to beat you to death and yet you still don’t think you deserve help. This is not the way you should be treated Kelathari, whether you are a maid or not. You are my ma.. maid, I requested for you to be my maid whilst I stay here.”His eyes go back to a beautiful emerald green as he walks towards me.

He grabs my hand and I can feel tingles like static electricity. His hand fills me with warmth and makes me feel calm and safe. I stare into his eyes, getting lost in the feeling. Someone clears their throat in the background which pulls me out of my daydream and look over to see it was Doctor Serena. I then hear Angelique chuckling to herself as she witnesses the awkward encounter.

“Okay well that settles it you shall stay here for a few days. I want to make sure you are healed to perfection for your birthday, which happens to also fall on a full moon.” She smiles and walks out the room.

King Benjamin and Angelique are the only ones that remain in my room.

“Also, Kelathari please call me Benjamin you do not need to call me king”

“Erm.. isn’t that rude though? I would never dream of speaking to someone of a higher authority without using their title. Both of you are being so kind to me and I don’t understand why, I am only a maid, I am no one special”

“You will find out in time that you are very special indeed. But for now call me Benjamin and call her Angelique. You do not need to use our titles ever again”

I just look at them both confused why they think I’m special. I don’t know what it is that I did to them to receive such kindness. But for now I will just accept it.

“Okay Ben..jamin” I test out saying his name with no title as it rolls of my tongues. He laughs to himself at me being so hesitant.

“Myself and Angelique are going to find your Alpha now and have a wonderful conversation about how to treat everyone nicely. We will be back shortly, if you need me just think of my name and I’ll come straight back to you.”

I nod and watch them leave the room. Now I’m alone I start to cry with tears of happiness. It’s the first time I have been laid in a bed with a mattress and it is so comfortable. I have no leaky roof or walls that are caving in slowly, it is definitely an upgrade from my shed. As happy as I am that so many people are trying to keep me comfortable and protected, it does make me wonder how it would make the Alpha feel and if I am going to end up being punished for it or not.
