Chapter 5

Benjamin’s POV

Seeing her hurt that like was painful enough. But to now find out that she was subjected to that treatment on a regular basis is making me furious. I’m finding it very hard to control Jasper.

‘Angie, let’s go. I’m tired of this Alpha and his demeaning attitude. He needs to be put into his place! Call back home I want Delta Gabriel to come, he is going to make sure Alpha James and his Luna stay in their place whilst we investigate his involvement with King Alexander. I feel like our war is going to arrive sooner than we planned and I want to make sure no other northern pack leaders are thinking about joining the other side.’

‘Yes sir! But please don’t lose your temper too much before we are able to gather more evidence on James and Sophie to present to the council. I know you’re able to do what you wish to, but it makes it easier to explain your actions to them the more evidence we gather.’

I nod in response as we quicken our pace down the corridor out of the medical centre. We return back to the main dining hall where everyone is currently tidying the mess that was caused by Alpha James.

“My king, sorry that you had to witness that insolent girl eating in your presence. The maids are not allowed to eat in here while pack members are still in here!”

I stare at James, coming to the realisation that he believes he did nothing wrong and this is treatment is allowed. I understand the maids are there to serve but they are also people and should have some respect given to them.

“I understand that you are old fashioned with your treatment of those lower than you Alpha. However, you would do well to remember that they are still members of your pack and should be allowed to eat and drink amongst friends. Everyone had been served in the room, and those of us left were merely finishing up and socialising. I think that your treatment of the maid was a bit extreme.”

“Understood my king, but that is how we run things around here” I notice a small smirk arrive on his face as he thinks he is the one in charge of the situation here.

I can feel the chatter around the room dying down as the other people surrounding us stop cleaning up as they watch the power struggle in front of them.

“Well perhaps it’s time for you to modernise your ideas and pack Alpha. My Delta should arrive within the next few days, he’s going to help you to look over your rules.” I cross my arms as James continues to stare at me, the smirk he once had slowly disappears. He takes a few steps towards me.

“I don’t need anyone coming to MY pack and tell me what to do. You’re not in charge here running this pack I am. I got the pack from my father not you!”

I just stare at him and start to chuckle to myself.

“You realise who you are speaking to? You may be allowed to run things the way you wish to. However, I can easily use my alpha command on you to run the pack how I wish. I wasn’t going to do that to you Alpha James as I held more respect for you, unlike your father. You can try to challenge me like your father did and die like him also if you wish? But I’m sure you would rather just let my delta help you with the running of things around her”

‘Angie, let’s go back to her now.’ Angie nods at me acknowledging what I have just said.

“Alpha, like I said be mindful of how you treat your pack members, we shall be observing you and watching to see if you are okay to stay within your role or if you need replacing.” With that being said Luna Sophie begins to cry and the Alpha continues to stand and stare at me. I look towards Angie who is already waiting for me at the doors to the hall to head back to the medical centre. I nod my head towards the Alpha and head for door.

“Oh and by the way Alpha we have decided to extend our stay with the Snowfall pack, I hope this doesn’t interfere with any of your plans.” I reach Angie at the end of the hall who is greeting me with a smile.

‘Angie, we really need to find out what is going on with this pack. I have a bad feeling that he has some plans with King Alexander. The quicker Gabriel arrives, the better for us all! I just hope they are unable to discover that his mate is a witch’.

I look over to Angie who shares my concerned expression.

“It will all work out Benji don’t worry, now let’s get back to Kelathari.” She pays my back as she leads me back towards the medical centre.

As soon as we reach the medical centre the scent of lavender and fresh cotton fills my nostrils sending Jasper into a bit of a frenzy. I hear Angie clear her throat next to me which quickly draws me back to reality.

We reach Kelathari’s room and she is fast asleep, hearing her deep breathing brings such a calming effect to me. I will never let her get hurt again, that Alpha will never go near my mate again! She’s mine! With my thoughts going a bit rampant I realise that Angelique has entered the room, not knowing how long she has been stood there for.

“Benjamin, Doctor Serena has asked to speak with you in her office. I’ll stay with her whilst you are in there” I smile at Angelique and leave the room. I walk down the corridor until I reach Doctor Serena’s office and knock on the door.

“Come in”

I open the door and see Serena start to scramble around and pay down her clothing as if to make herself more presentable.

“Oh! My King! I do apologise I didn’t realise it was you, please do take a seat”

I take a seat on the leather chair in front of her desk and take in my surroundings. It’s a large office with lots of warm brown tones, very calming environment with plants growing by the windows. One of the walls is replaced completely by windows that leads out onto a decking with a large table and chairs.

“I must say Doctor, you have a wonderful office”

“Oh why thank you! I redecorated as soon as it became mine hahaa, the Alpha wasn’t too happy about the cost of it all. But he also needed me enough that he eventually gave in and let me design it the way I wanted.”

“You have a good sense of style, so why did you want to see me Doctor?” I didn’t like being separated from Kelathari at the moment knowing that the Alpha wasn’t happy with either of us.

“Yes so I have gathered that you are both mates, am I correct in assuming so?”

“You assume correctly, how could you tell?”

“Well the way you look at her and are so protective over her, I have seen a lot within my lifetime so I am able to tell now”

“Ahh I see”

“Since you are mates I understand how difficult it can be for you being away from her. Especially since she doesn’t have her wolf yet and doesn’t yet understand. Therefore, I am happy to discharge her as long as she stays in your room with you. I can’t have her going back to that dreary shed.”

“Wow! Thank you so much! I appreciate you understanding”

“She has to come back for check ups daily. Once in the morning and once in the evening so that I can ensure she is still healing at an appropriate rate. I am concerned she won’t be healed enough in time for her birthday and her first shift. However, being in the presence of you should actually speed up her healing process especially because she has such a a strong mate”

“Oh so it’s true then? I’ve only heard rumours that being in the presence of your mate can speed things up. I didn’t know there was truth behind the whispers”

“Oh yes it’s very true King Benjamin! I have seen the mate bond work miracles on those we thought we may lose”

“Okay then, well it’s settled as soon as she wakes up I will inform her of the move.”

Doctor Serena stands up and grabs a notepad and some medication from her desk and hands it to me.

“This is the medication she needs to take 3 times a day. Just some strong antibiotics and painkillers to help with the healing process and makes sure nothing gets re-infected”

I nod in response and leave the office heading back to Kelathari’s room.

I see that Angie has fallen asleep next to her and Kelathari is now awake. She looks over to me and stares into my eyes giving me a gentle smile.

“Hey! You’re awake, how are you feeling?” I say it quietly enough to not wake up Angie.

“I’m a little achy but yeah feeling a lot better thank you for asking Benjamin”

Hearing her say my names warms my heart, and also turns me on at the same time. I can’t wait to hear her say my name whilst I’m buried into her.

“Benjamin, are you okay? Your eyes are turning black are you angry again

“Oh no sorry I’m not, I was just thinking of something. Don’t worry about it! In other news Doctor Serena has said that you can be discharged now. You will be staying in my room with me until you are fully healed and it’s your birthday”

“Erm no offence but why do I need to stay in your room I’m happy to go back to my shed”

I grab her hand “You will heal better with me watching out for you”

I can feel the tingles radiating through our hands. I see her body language changing and can smell the arousal beginning to radiate from her, which means she is starting to feel something too.

“Okay, let’s go”

We wake up Angie and let her know what the Doctor has said and then we start to pick her things up to take to my room.
