As June hit, the weather started to get colder and it was evident with the rainfall that hit. Sebastian was sitting in his fathers office, helping with some paper work for the pack, trying not to think about what happened that day. He felt bad, because really, it was his fault. Maybe he had been paranoid when he knocked and got no answer. He knew that Adira had some stuff going on, but he did worry, knowing that she normally shuts herself away. So he had knocked and with no answer he had gone in, to see if she was ok or to wake her up, thinking maybe she had fallen asleep.
He had not been expecting to walk in as she walked out of the bathroom. The bedroom door was still slightly open, so he was lucky nobody else had walked past the room at that time. Adira was only protected by a towel, and he had frozen in surprise. She was a young girl, close but not yet an adult. Sixteen. Yet, the feeling that hit him when he saw her like that… it was not normal. It attracted him, he felt… a very strong desire to walk over to the girl and take her into his arms and just kiss her.
It made no sense, because he had never felt like that before and she was not even his mate. Yet her standing there, shoulders exposed revealing a mark over the top of the skin, her skinny pale legs bare, and the edge of the towel reaching mid thigh. She was beautiful, he knew it. The first day when he saw her and felt that strange pull, he had felt she was beautiful. She was clean from the shower, and her smell was lovely and he wanted to take it in completely. However, he knew she would not allow it, he knew she would freak out if he did anything, and he knew her not being his mate would complicate things. He had to get out quick and so he could only tell her what he had entered for while looking at the ground and then turned and stood outside the room to wait for her to dress and come out.
They never spoke of what happened either, keeping it between themselves. Sebastian did notice that she seemed even more reserved around him at times, embarrassed as well and he could not blame her. Kinley… he noticed something and he did ask about it a couple of times, but Sebastian did not say anything, could not. He felt like that was a betrayal to Adira if he did. So he could only keep it to himself and the way seeing her like that had made him feel.
Sighing, Sebastian ran a hand though his hair, thinking it was all too complicated to work out.
“What is on your mind son?” his father asked.
“I just… trying to work something out.” Sebastian told him honestly, feeling he could trust his father, they have had conversations before along these lines. “I feel… myself being pulled closer and closer to Adira the more I am around her. I do not even understand it father.”
“I wish I had answers for you my boy… but I have never come across this before. Aside from my situation with April… but I honestly do not think it was that intense.” His father explained sadly.
“What do I do? I want to wait for my mate… but how long… how can I pull this off?” Sebastian asked.
“How strong is this feeling?” Alpha Gabriel asked.
“I… like… I… want to… make her mine….” Sebastian said red in the ears.
“And… what did you feel when that Vampire went to bite her?” his father asked.
“Like I wanted to tear him apart. A sickening feeling in my stomach.” Sebastian said feeling angry.
“To me… it sounds like a mate bond.” Alpha Gabriel stated. “Are you sure you are not mates?”
“I don’t think so. She does not seem to react to me… and my wolf does not get all excited like I expected it to.” Sebastian explained.
“We may have to dig further into this. See if there has been any other cases like this before. Maybe she is connected to you some how… but not like a mate, but close enough.” His father suggested.
“You wouldn’t have any extra children out there we don’t know of?” Sebastian asked thoughtfully.
“Not a chance. I have only every truly been with your mother.” Alpha Gabriel said dismissively.
“Just a random thought, I doubted it anyway.” Sebastian admitted. “I just do not know what to make of it… I am so mixed over it.”
“We will figure it out, all of it will come to light in the end.” Alpha Gabriel stated.
“Have you heard anything back from the scouts?” Sebastian asked.
“Not yet, but I am expecting something soon. They have been gone a week now.” Alpha Gabriel explained. “We can only hope they provide us new information and not what we already know.”
“And what is it we already know?” Sebastian questioned to confirm again.
“Dark Lord Alexanda had breached a park to the far north of the state. Everyone was wiped out, no survivors. We are trying to figure out his next target.” Alpha Gabriel explained.
“What would he gain from far north?” Sebastian asked.
“My understanding is that while we are south… Lord Vincent is middle… I can only guess and assume, in a strategic way… he is trying to cut Lord Vincent off… surround him with new Vampires who can not control themselves…. Building numbers.” Alpha Gabriel stated.
“He wants a blood sucking army.” Sebastian said with a sigh. “A large one…”
“And I am sure it is not just werewolves and other vampires he is attacking and recruiting.” Alpha Gabriel stated thoughtfully. “I fear, from the human world, there have been an increase in missing people cases.”
“He needs to be stopped. Could we not take the fight to him?” Sebastian asked. “Gather all the packs and hit him head on.”
“It may come to that soon. We just need his location.” Alpha Gabriel sighed.
Sebastian nodded, understanding. It would seem that while he was building an army, he was not easily traceable and there for, locations are not accessible or easy to get a hold of. It was not good and they were obviously sitting blind by this all, just preparing and hoping the war would not fall upon them too quickly without notice. They would loose too much if that was the case.
The rest of the night went by quietly for Sebastian and his father, doing the paper work, each thinking to themselves. With a heavy head Sebastian had gone to bed, but could not sleep. Any time he closed his eye, the only thing he could see was the girl, Adira. Not in a s****l way… but in a strange was, like a moment in time that had not happened yet. She was standing in a garden of flowers, hair blowing back in the breeze, and next to her was the most stunning wolf he had ever seen. Their eyes were the same, and in his dream he had a feeling it was her wolf, the two parts of her. Was this real? How could it be real.
When he woke in the morning from the dream, Sebastian could only put it to the fact that he was starting to let his mind get carried away about the girl. She had not even shifted yet, so there was no reason for him to even think it was her wolf counterpart. Sebastian needed to focus, he needed to push these matters to the side and simply work on his Alpha training.
It was a school day and so after a shower and heading down stairs to the dinning room for something to eat, he met up with Maximus and Nathanial and headed to the school grounds. He was silent as they walked, listening to two of his friends talk. They were being random in what they were saying until oddly enough, Nathanial said something strange, that caused Sebastian to pause.
“What did you just say?” he asked turning to face him.
“It was a wolf… very beautiful… pure white.” He stated.
“Like snow untouched?” Maximus stated in a questioning tone.
“You dreamt of it too?” Nathanial asked with shock.
“Yeah… seems so… how did you see yours?” Maximus asked.
“I was dreaming that I was training. It walked up to me… nudged my hand. Then I woke up.” He said.
“I was dreaming about going on a trip with Stacey, I saw it crossing the road in front of our car, we had to stop quickly before a car on the wrong side of the road was about to head on collide with us. The dream really freaked me out.” Maximus stated.
“I saw it in a field of flowers… just standing there…” Sebastian made mention.
“Hmmm… could it be a wolf is calling out to people, by dream?” Nathanial wondered.
“What if it is the moon goddess trying to check in on all of us at one time?” Maximus suggested.
“I think we need to know how far wide this is spread.” Sebastian stated.
It was good too that he thought that. The moment they entered the school and walked through the halls of the main building, hearing at the ready, it was clear to Sebastian that the three of them were not the only ones who had a dream that featured this wolf. It looked like half the school population had some appearance of the wolf in their dream. He started to think maybe it was a sign, a message from someone. Was it the moon goddess herself, sending them all a message? Was she letting them all know that she was watching over them, keeping them safe. From what he heard in peoples dreams, it seemed like the wolf was doing things in a more of a helpful way then just being there. His… that was a little different. Nothing dangerous was happening in his dream, but the wolf was still there, so it was another thing he needed to figure out.
It was clear though, by the end of the day that the news of the dreams and the wolf was getting around and more people were talking about it. Not just the school, it seemed too that the whole pack was talking about it. When Sebastian arrived at the training grounds where his father was attending a watch, he went straight over to him and asked if he had heard the news. There was no surprise when Alpha Gabriel advised he had heard. He too had a dream with the wolf… protecting his own family. Sebastian told him as he had told others, the wolf was in a field of flowers in his dream. He still left out the fact that Adira was also in the dream.
Nobody could explain it, and the only other idea that anyone could suggest was for Alpha Gabriel to send communication to other packs and see if they had any wolf dreams. The big thing about it, was being the wolf was pure white. They were the rearrest and strongest wolf known to the world of mythical creatures. Sebastian had never been too bothered to know much about white wolves because there has never been any report of any white wolves for many years. Now, suddenly, wolves were dreaming of one… it had to be a sign about something.
Alpha Brent from Halfmoon was the quickest to return report and yes, members of his pack had indeed had dreams with the white wolf. It was not just their own pack it would seem and with a conversation on the phone with surrounding packs, a few also had the same experience. Evidently, this was a huge thing, everyone was talking about it and for a whole week in school or around town it was all Sebastian heard about. It did sort of get annoying, but he understood, because it was not something normal and nobody liked it when things were not the normal.
On the Saturday, while he did not have school, Sebastian still had to do Alpha training stuff and so he found himself up and awake early, grabbing something to eat from the kitchen, knowing he was not going to have time to join everyone else in the dinning room later. He and his father had plans to visit the Ravenwood Pack, which would take then two hours to travel to and meaning they would have to leave at a good time to hit the road before any extra traffic. While their pack was situated in a nice place, they still needed to travel the human highways to get to other packs.
As he walked into the kitchen, Sebastian was shocked to find his father already there as well, but he was not alone. Adira was in the kitchen to, and it looked like Sebastian had walked in on a conversation. Alpha Gabriel smiled at him when they saw him, so it did not seem that their conversation was all too secretive, and they did not act strange over his arrival.
“Morning.” Sebastian greeted. “Thought I’d grab some food before heading out.”
“Adira made some waffles, you just need to put some toppings on and we can head off straight away.” Alpha Gabriel said with a smile.
“Waffles?” Sebastian asked with a raised brow.
“I… was in the mood.” Adira said softly, almost embarrassed.
“Hey… I aint complaining.” Sebastian grinned.
He was glad, it would save him a lot of time making something himself. He saw with his smile, that Adira tried to smile back. She did not do so often, but he knew she was trying all the time and so it was nice seeing her a little more relaxed. As Sebastian started putting some toppings on the waffles he grabbed, his father confirmed they would be leaving a little earlier then planned, and that Adira in fact would be going with them as well. He was curious and could not help but to ask, his father explained that while they were meeting with Alpha John, it was hopeful that Adira could meet with their pack doctor… who in fact was a witch. As soon as that was suggested, Sebastian could understand what the reasonings were for, so he had no complaints about it.
Once he was ready, they headed out of the pack house and got into the car. Firstly Alpha Gabriel drove them to the Beta Mansion and found Beta Luke was already standing out the front waiting for them. He got into the front passenger side of the vehicle and Sebastian found himself sitting in the back with Aria. She was silent, as they headed out of town, looking out of the car window for a long time. He wondered, while staying with Lord Vincent, how often she actually got to leave the Castle… and if she did some werewolf stuff for him, what type of stuff did she do?
Like they had hoped, they hit the highway before it got too busy and they were well on their way to the Ravenwood Territory. Sebastian was listening to his father and Beta Luke discuss pack matters and training, giving some input to it every now and then. He could tell that Adira was listening, taking in what they were saying. He wondered if it was actually because she was interested or was it because she was bored and had nothing else to do. Was it wise for them to even talk so opening like that in front of her? After all, she was not actually a member of their pack.
When they were about half an hour away from Ravenwood, a moment of judgement and reaction affected their travel in a way they would not have expected. The car was silent, conversation ended and everyone just looking out the windows focusing on the road. Sebastian heard it, noises behind him, and could not help but to glance around, out the back window.
Two cars came flying out of some back street, he could see them clearly because of his skills with his Alpha blood, but for a normal human they would not have been able to see too much. These two cars were not being careful and it seemed they were racing. As they came up the road, there was a misjudgement by one of the cars and with a spine crunching crash, the leading car smashed side on to a third car that had been travelling in the same direction as their own.
Due to the noise, Alpha Gabriel swore and hit the breaks, coming to a smooth stop to the side of the road. The four of them got out of the car and looked at the mess behind them. Three cars tangled together about three hundred meters away from where they were. Horns were blaring and there were screams from people in the weak. It was a mess.
Adira wasted no time, she ran straight to the crash, and like she knew what to do, she started going for the car that had been doing the right thing. Sebastian, his father and Beta Luke followed, checking the other two cars, the ones who had been racing. One was on the roof, the driver dangling, caught by a seat belt. He had a male passenger, but aside from a few knocks and scrapes, they were fine. Beta Luke pulled out a cell phone and started calling emergency services, to give them the location and the information of what had happened.
“Can you help me?” Adira’s small voice called out.
Sebastian looked over, he could see she was at the back passenger door of the third car. He said nothing, half shocked by the mess, as he walked over. Looking through the window, he could see two children in the back of the car. One was not moving, possible about six, and the other was an infant, in a capsule seat, crying. Looking to the front of the car, he saw two adults, both not moving either. Adira pointed to them and he nodded.
Using some strength, he pulled the drivers door open, not sure how he would explain to the emergency services how he got such a crumpled mess moved like he did. However, he did not think either of them cared at that moment. Leaning in, he looked at the driver, a male, likely mid forties. He had a large gash to his head, but with a quick check, Sebastian could tell he was still breathing.
“We do not have time to waste, get them out and get them away from the cars.” Adira said.
Sebastian looked at her, as she climbed into the back of the car from the door she had opened and she was removing the seatbelt form the six year old child. He watched for a second, before he moved into action. Sebastian focused on the driver, ripping the seat belt from the holster and pulling the man from the car, dragging his unconscious body down the road away from the weak. He took off his jacket and bundled it up, placing it under the mans head as a pillow. Right away, he was back at the car but on the passenger side and while this time the door would not open, he smashed the window in. He could hear the woman who sat in the passenger seat make groaning noises, which meant she was alive but possibly hurt.
The baby was still crying in the back, and he could see Adira had moved the six year old child to where he had left the male and she was coming back. Beta Luke was dealing with the second car that had been racing, which had smashed into a tree on the other side of the road. His father was focusing on the first car that was racing and the two that were upside down in their car. Getting the woman free, Sebastian carried her to the same place as the others were being rested down to. He was not sure how long it would be before emergency services would arrive, but it was good that they had been ahead of this mess, one… they would not have been caught up in the middle of it… and two, so then they could help.
In fact, just as he was putting the woman down and putting her into a recovery position, there was a noise that filled the air, like a strange woosh and in horror Sebastian looked up, seeing the car that he had just pull the woman from had suddenly caught up in flames. Sebastian gasped and he heard his father swear from where he was standing.
“Adira!” Beta Luke yelled.
An explosion rocked the air, which did send Sebastian off his feet. He landed on the ground and gasped, feeling winded. The sight before he fell still clear in his eyes. Adira… in the back of the car grabbing the baby. Scrambling to his feet, Sebastian felt worried, frightened, and he felt sick in the stomach. The flame was intense and burning dangerously and even as he stepped towards the cars, he could feel the anger of the fire. He put an arm up to shield his eyes and he looked, trying to see if he could see Adira and the baby, yet knowing, she had been in the car when the flames started, right before the explosion… he was frightful to even think about it.
“There!” Alpha Gabriel yelled out, pointing.
Sebastian looked to where his father was pointing and an unspeakable relief rushed through him. She was ok… they were ok. Adira was walking back towards them, away from the burning car. How she was unhurt, he was not even sure, but he did not care. Sebastian quickly moved towards her, to make sure there was nothing wrong that they could not see. Beta Luke came over as well, likely thinking the same thing.
They saw such a surreal sight, with Adira holding the baby in her arms, and the baby sleeping. Moment before it had been screaming it’s head off, crying. Now… it was sleeping. How? Sebastian was confused and he looked at Adira with a questioning look. She was not paying attention though, she was looking at the baby, running a finger along the bridge of it’s noise, a soft smile on her face. In honesty, if it had been any other situation, any other moment, this would have been a perfect image. She was so gentle, so loving and caring, as if she could have been the child’s mother. Oddly, Sebastian could even imagine her being a mother, cooing her own baby to sleep after a long day, singing it a lullaby. And in his head at that moment when he thought that, he could not help but to image himself, walking up behind her, placing arms around her waist, holding her, looking down at the baby and giving her a light kiss on the neck.
What was he thinking!
Sebastian had to shake his head, to clear his thoughts and stop thinking things like that. This was not a perfect moment in time… this was not a fantasy. This had been a serious accident and if they had not worked together to get the family out of that car, then all four of them would have perished. That was not good, and so Sebastian needed to think about what was really going on.
