Three months passed since the call came from the reception. Luna was still in rehab. Her parents never missed a Sunday, their only chance to meet Luna. They would talk about all the funny, stupid, and dumb incidents that happened back at home, with Luna. In reaction, Luna would laugh and in the end, then the three of them hugged before leaving Luna in her sad little jail again.
It was the fourth Sunday of December. And coincidently it was Christmas. Luna's parents begged to take Luna home for the celebration. They even talked to Clara and requested her to let Luna celebrate Christmas with them at their sweet home. Luna didn't know about this surprise that they were planning. Somehow, Clara allowed them to take Luna home for the night to their surprise.
Luna's parents then excitedly went to their daughter to tell her the news. On hearing the news, Luna's face lit up brightly. She hadn't felt absolute joy in a very long time. But no one was happier than Luna's parents to see their daughter enthusiastic for what seemed like forever.
The three of them drove away from the rehab merrily. It was a matter of one night only. They had no time to waste.
The car pulled up in front of the Apollumy residence. A nostalgia developed in Luna's stomach making her feel warm at the sight of her cozy little house. All three of them were the happiest people on the earth for the night. Mr. and Mrs. Apollmy escorted their daughter like a princess into her castle. Luna was smiling all along.
The first thing Luna did as soon as she entered inside was dash into her room upstairs. As she opened the door the site of her room made her feel safe and at home finally. She walked in, inspecting everything in her sight. she realized her room was as it was when she left. Nothing had been changed. She turned back to find her mother standing at the door looking at Luna with contentment and satisfaction. Tears were rolling down Luna's face before she knew it. She hugged her mother tight and wept her heart out. Hearing the weeps even Luna's mother couldn't hold in and started crying. she caressed Luna's head and tried to calm her down.
Suddenly sweet melodies coming from downstairs interrupted their crying. They both descended the stairs to find Mr. Apollumy playing the piano near the fireplace in the living room. Both Luna and her mom chuckled. "Come on, sing both of you will ya? It's Christmas!" and the merry little family spent their night singing their hearts out, eating, and chatting a lot. Luna knew it wasn't gonna last forever. But she pushed away from her thoughts and concentrated on living the night which might never come.
Soon, it was past bedtime. Luna had almost forgotten to take her meds but her father remembered and gave them to her. The meds started taking their action almost immediately and made Luna drowsy with sleep. "You can sleep with us tonight honey." Luna's mom announced. Luna nodded sleepily.
Before they knew it was already time to take Luna back to her rehab. All the warmth and happiness from last night had evaporated. No one was ready to talk. Silently they all got dressed and got into the car, acting strong. Mr. Apollumy revved the engine to life and they all drove away with grief in their hearts.
They all reached their destination. And Luna was immediately escorted inside. Her mom was wiping her tears and sniffing hard and her father kept looking in Luna's direction as she walked in, hoping his precious daughter would run back to him. But it didn't happen. Luna didn't even look back to bid them goodbye.
She was upset.
