Slave 4: Dawn of a New Beginning Third Person’s Point of View The news of the alpha’s mate who was currently recovering at the hospital was a closely guarded secret, known only to the Sentinels and a handful of trusted pack warriors. Yet the urgency of the situation compelled them to inform the alpha’s sister, who immediately rushed to the hospital. The alpha’s sister’s heart sank as she entered Behati’s hospital room. Her gaze fell upon Behati, a sight that filled her with horror the moment she saw her body marred by wounds and bruises. Malnutrition was also etched on Behati’s gaunt frame. “Oh, moon goddess… what happened to her…?” Lady Mariam asked, her voice trembling with a mix of worry and confusion. “We believe she was a victim of slavery and managed to escape,” Beta Blake answered. Lady Mariam was about to delve deeper into the details when her gaze was drawn to the corner of the room. There, where she saw her brother, Alpha Malachi, standing, his silhouette etched against the hospital window. “Eh? I thought he wasn’t here?” She couldn’t help but ask, her voice tinged with surprise. Her brother, lost in thought, seemed oblivious to their presence. His frown deepened, and she knew that his mind was grappling with the gravity of the situation. She knew her brother too well, and he was troubled, his usual composed demeanor replaced by a brooding silence. “We were all surprised to see him arrive earlier,” Gamma Anakin said, “and he’s been standing there since he arrived.” Only Gamma Anakin and Beta Blake were present at the hospital when the Alpha arrived at his mate’s hospital room. As they awaited an update from the doctor regarding Behati’s condition, a tense silence filled the room. Lady Mariam’s gaze lingered on Behati’s peaceful, yet fragile form. A wave of concern washed over her as she pondered the severity of her brother’s mate’s condition. They awaited the arrival of Doctor Galvin, the alpha’s trusted physician, who would undoubtedly become Behati’s doctor as well. The tense silence was broken as the door creaked open, and Doctor Galvin stepped into the room. His arrival immediately alerted everyone, including the alpha. As he delivered the update on Behati’s condition, the room fell into a hushed silence. “As expected, she doesn’t possess the healing ability, and I assumed that she is wolfless,” the doctor began. “Her body, weakened by malnutrition and prolonged suffering, is fragile and requires special care. She’ll need a carefully monitored diet rich in vitamins and minerals to restore her strength. Furthermore, her physical condition suggests a prolonged period of neglect and abuse. The scars and injuries she sustained are evidence of the torment she endured. “It’s a miracle she survived, let alone retained her sanity. Given her weakened state, she must receive constant medical attention and a nurturing environment to facilitate her recovery. We must also consider the psychological impact of her ordeal. The trauma she had experienced could have long-lasting effects, manifesting in various ways. It’s crucial to provide her with emotional support and therapeutic intervention to help her cope with the past and rebuild her life,” the doctor’s every word carries immense weight. Beta Blake, Gamma Anakin, and Lady Mariam exchanged a worried glance when they heard those words, especially the word ‘wolfless’, before turning their gaze to the alpha, whose expression remained impassive. The fear that this revelation might solidify his decision to reject his pitiful mate was palpable. Yet, as the alpha’s voice, calm and resolute, filled the room, they were met with a surprising turn of events. “Take care of her, Mariam, until she recovers, and let her stay at the packhouse,” the alpha declared with a firm tone. His words hung heavy in the air, a stark contrast to their initial expectations. They had anticipated different reactions, perhaps one of rejection or indifference. Yet, his unexpected words left them stunned while their mouths agape. As the alpha turned and left the room, a wave of confusion washed over them. The three exchanged bewildered glances, still grappling with the alpha’s unexpected decision. Alpha Malachi was notoriously enigmatic, his intentions often veiled in mystery. His latest move was no exception, leaving the three of them to wonder about the depths of his thoughts and the true nature of his feelings for his mate. Beta Blake and Gamma Anakin shrugged their shoulders. Lady Mariam, however, let out a soft sigh, before her gaze turned towards the frail figure of Behati. “Well, I’ll just assume he’s slowly accepting her,” Lady Mariam muttered, her voice barely audible. A flicker of hope ignited within her, a glimmer of optimism amidst the uncertainty. Perhaps, just perhaps, the alpha was beginning to soften his stance, to see Behati not as a mere obligation but as a part of his life. Time, she knew, would be the ultimate judge, revealing the true nature of his feelings. *** Behati “Behati, one day, you’ll be reunited with your family and escape this dreadful place…” I gazed up at Miss Lucinda, the kind maid who had cared for me since I regained consciousness in Moonbane Pack. “When will that day come, Miss Lucinda?” I whispered, my voice barely audible. She pulled me into a comforting embrace, whispering, “Soon, my dear. Just hold on a little longer…” I awoke from a dream, replying to my conversation with Miss Lucinda in my mind. As I opened my eyes, I was met with an unfamiliar sight: a bright, unfamiliar ceiling. I also realized that I was lying on a soft, plush bed, a stark contrast to the harsh, unforgiving cell I had been confined to. However, my body instinctively sat up, fearing that Lady Vida might punish me for waking up late and that thought made my body tremble in fear. My mind was still hazy, and it took a moment for me to realize that I was no longer in Moonbane Pack. Right, I managed to escape. But where am I? I found myself alone in a spacious and luxurious room. However, as soon as I realized I was on the bed, I immediately tried to get off, afraid that I might stain it. A worthless slave like me didn’t deserve to sleep in such a luxurious bed. However, the moment I tried to move, a sharp pain shot through my body, forcing me to remain still. I closed my eyes tightly, enduring the pain as my breath quickened. Slowly, my breathing steadied, and the pain began to subside. Only to be replaced by fear and confusion. ***
