Slave 3: Wounded Mate Third Person’s Point of View Alpha Malachi’s mind was reeling from the unexpected discovery of his mate. He had never sought a mate: he had no interest in looking for his mate. Yet fate had decided to intervene, bringing his destined partner to him in the most unexpected ways. The realization that he had found his mate washed over him like a tidal wave. It was a sensation he had never experienced before, a profound connection that transcended words. The alpha’s wolf, sensing the presence of its destined partner, stirred within him, its excitement palpable. Alpha Malachi’s wolf was growing increasingly agitated. “What are you doing?! Go, approach our mate! Her heart is barely beating! Heal her!” His wolf demanded, its voice echoing in his head. The alpha was torn by conflicting emotions and ignored his wolf’s words. Instead, he ran away, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts and feelings. Above all, he was consumed by a burning desire to find those who had hurt his mate and inflict upon them the most excruciating pain imaginable. While the alpha went for a run, Gamma Anakin took responsibility for their alpha’s mate. He knew even though his alpha acted that way, he knew that her safety was paramount, and he would do everything in his power to ensure her well-being. When Doctor Galvin arrived at the scene, Gamma Anakin immediately briefed him on the situation and escorted the alpha’s mate to the pack’s infirmary. Just by looking at the woman, the doctor knew that she was in critical condition and that she would need all the care and attention she could get. The other Sentinels, the high-ranking members of the pack, immediately learned about their alpha’s mate through mind-link. However, they kept the information confidential, especially considering the alpha’s initial reluctance to accept his mate. “Where’s the alpha?” Inquired Beta Blake, the second-in-command, and the last to arrive at the hospital while they awaited Doctor Galvin from the emergency room. “He went for a run,” Gamma Anakin responded. “He was bewildered when he learned that the woman we found near the border was his mate.” Upon hearing Gamma Anakin’s words, the Sentinels considered two possible outcomes: either the alpha would reject his mate or he would accept her. However, they feared that the alpha might reject his mate. They knew that he had never shown interest in finding her. They are worried that he might find the idea of a mate overwhelming, a burden that he was not prepared to accept. On the other hand, they hoped that the alpha would recognize the importance of this bond and the benefits that it could bring to the whole pack as a whole. “What do you think? Do you believe the alpha will accept her?” Delta Royce inquired, his gaze fixed on the other Sentinels. The Midnight Moon Pack, like many others, is a hierarchical society, with the Alpha at the apex. The Alpha possesses immense power and authority, making their word law. Beneath him are the Beta, the second-in-command, and a loyal and trusted lieutenant, often acting as the Alpha’s right-hand person. Then there are Delta, Gamma, Zeta, and the Salutary, or the Alpha’s doctor. They are called the pack’s Sentinels and they are the group of elite warriors, capable of leading and protecting the pack, as they are one of the strongest members of the pack. “I hope so,” Gamma Anakin replied, his voice tinged with optimism. “It would be a great blessing for our pack,” they fell into silence, thinking the same thing until Zeta Lowell broke the silence. “But what happened to her?” The Zeta asked, his curiosity piqued. They all looked at Gamma Anakin who only shrugged, “We don’t know yet. We just found her unconscious and badly hurt,” he said. “Her injuries are severe, but she’s strong. She’s a survivor.” What happened to the alpha’s mate remained a mystery, shrouded in uncertainty. Only when she awoke would the questions surrounding her identity and the circumstances of her injuries be answered. Unknownst to them, it would take some time for them to learn what happened to her. “Most importantly, do you think the Elders would accept her if the alpha ever decided to accept her?” Delta Royce’s query silenced the room, leaving everyone lost in thought. And all of them are uncertain about the answer. The Pack Elders, esteemed and influential members of the pack, held a significant degree of authority. While the alpha’s word was the ultimate law, the Elders possessed the power to challenge decisions they deemed unreasonable or detrimental to the pack’s well-being. Their role was to ensure the pack’s prosperity and the alpha’s wise leadership. The Sentinels are worried that the Elders might view her as weak and unfit to be the Luna of the Midnight Moon Pack. They might think that if she becomes the Luna, it might compromise the pack’s security. In the Elders’ eyes, a strong Luna was essential to maintaining the pack’s power and influence, and the Pack Elders were too scared that a weak Luna could be exploited by enemies, putting the entire pack at risk. Meanwhile, Alpha Malachi was still reeling from the unexpected turn of events. He had never once sought a mate, yet fate had intervened, bringing his destined mate to him in the most unexpected way. The alpha couldn’t deny the pull he felt towards the unconscious lady. “Why did you f*****g run away?! Don’t tell me you’re planning to reject our mate?” Malik, the alpha’s wolf, roared in his mind, his voice filled with anger and disbelief. “I won’t f*****g allow it, Malachi!” He growled, his tone threatening. “Have you seen her wounds, her bruises? She was hurt, Malachi! Someone hurt ‘our’ mate!” Alpha Malachi’s mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. He was unsure of what to do, yet the sight of her, battered and bruised, stirred a strange mix of burning anger, concern, and protectiveness within him. Her malnourished body was a canvas of scars, fresh wounds, and bruises, a stark reminder of the cruelty she had endured was still fresh in his mind. “I don’t know, Malik…” Alpha Malachi muttered, his voice laced with frustration and confusion. “But I couldn’t ignore the fact that she was abused, perhaps even enslaved. I want to hunt down those responsible and inflict upon them a pain as excruciating as the one they caused her.” He punctuated his words by punching a nearby tree, the crack of splintering wood echoing through the silent forest. Alpha Malachi remained uncertain about accepting her as his mate, but one thing was clear: he would not rest until those responsible for her suffering paid the ultimate price. ***
