EKON POV
It’s was late when I reached home. I quickly changed into comfortable cloths and left my apartment. A smile graced my lips at the thought of seeing Luna again. Just a thought of got me all mushy.
‘How much cheesier can I get?’
I zipped my way through the traffic probably breaking a rule or two. Slowing down near her house, I see that the house was dark except for the patio light. I rang the bell but there wasn’t any answer. When she did not answer the door on my third ring, i thought of just making my way to the dock. Probably she’s there already. As I leave the front door, I heard Leo barking frantically.
Unknowingly a chill ran down my spine. I took off running towards the dock. My mind was filled with all different possibilities and none of it was positive. Pushing away all the disturbing thoughts, I pushed myself to run faster.
As I get closer to the dock, the scene in front my eyes shook me to the core that I my step falter causing me to trip. She was on the dock floor and her body was violently being trashed around. “LUNA” I shout.
Leo’s bark brought me back to the situation and I was running to her in no time. I called her name as I got closer. Her head turned to the sound of me calling her but her eyes and mind don’t seem to register my presence. Her eyes were closing but she was fighting desperately trying to keep herself awake.
I fall on my knees beside her. I picked her up off the edge, and sit her across my lap. I placed her head on my shoulders and held her body in a cocoon to stop her from trashing around.
“Luna, I’m here. Please relax. Just breathe. Breathe baby. The hospital. Let’s go to the hospital,” I said.
I move to get up when Leo nudged something closer to me. I look down to see an open pouch with prescription and a bottle of water near me. Looking at Leo, he turned and barked at Luna. Hopefully understanding him correctly, I grabbed the medicine and bottle and fed her.
Once she consumed the medicine, I held her in my cocoon again. I rocked her back and forth repeatedly as I whisper soft words in her ears wishing it would work. I brushed her hands hoping to soothe her. Leo never left our side. He sat in front of us with his muzzles on Luna’s thigh and a paw on my calf. He whines softly, eyes never leaving Luna.
What felt like long dreadful minutes, her breathing calmed down. I felt warm limbs going around my abdomen as Luna adjust her head closet to my chest. She held me tight as I felt her fingers clasp behind my back. I smiled when she sighed in content when I placed a kiss on her head.
“Luna?” I called softly. When there was no response, I called her again as I run my hand over hers, “Baby?”. She hums in response.
“Let’s get you to the hospital baby,” I say. She released her grip from around my body and looked up at me with drowsy eyes.
“I’m fine. I just want to sleep” she said placing her head in the crook of my neck, right hand my chest. I held her right hand and rest my cheek over her head.
“Are you sure?” I ask again and she hummed her answer. I smiled again when she inhaled my scent and moaned lowly. I held her for a while longer relishing in her warmth and fragrance. Her breathing steadied as she snores softly. She was asleep now.
I looked down at Leo to see him already looking at me with raised eyebrow as if in question, “she is fine now” I whispered and pat him. We sat there in a silence a little while longer before I got to feet carrying her carefully not to wake her up. On instinct she clutched the front of my t-shirt. I kissed her forehead softly and she snuggled closer.
I carried her into her house and realised that I had no idea on how to find her room leave alone in the dark. I stop in my path and looked down at Leo. For a moment I thought of a crazy idea then I chuckled at my stupidity.
I thought of the long route. I was going to place Luna on the couch then switch on the light and find my way around her house. Just as I was about to walk to the couch, Leo barked softly at me. I sigh and looked at him. What the hell. It’s not like anyone’s going to know.
“Where’s her room?” I tried. Leo ran forward to a wall before disappearing. Frowning I walked to the wall to see Leo standing on the top of the stairs waiting for me.
“I’m talking to a bloody dog” I mumbled to myself and walked up the stairs following Leo to a room. I enter the room and quickly found the switch. I turned it on with my elbow and walk to her bed.
I looked at Leo again shaking my head in disbelief, “Leo, the sheets” I say. He was fast to grab the corner of the sheet and drag it to the floor.
I tucked her in bed and dropped a lingering kiss on her cheek this time before looking at Leo at the doorstep. “I’m officially crazy” I said to him and he growled lowly in response. “Fine I didn’t say anything. It’s not like anyone will believe me anyway,” I banter with him as we make our way down the stairs.
