First Mission - Gathering Skills???

1176 Words
25th December 1018 I walked up to the Magistrate's Office and knocked on the door before it was opened by another Silverlight Knight. The continent was swarmed by all these overprotective NPCs since their overbearing presence was to avoid gamers getting into PVP in the wrong arena. "Oh, hello again Baroness Za. It seemed that you had gotten the number of items required from the armoury. Right, let's get down to business, shall we? To qualify as a student of the Archmage of Votrieburg, all you need to do is the following requirements. Are you ready to hear the requirements to qualify?" Magistrate Maelstorm or Archmage Maelstorm; that would be addressed from now on unless on official government duties, gestured me to sit on the plush leather armchair as I wait for my next few orders. "Alright, listen up carefully, yeah? To become my student of the Archmage to learn the skills of fire, ice and arcane." "As you can see from the blessed qualities of your current equipment, there are also air and earth, which made up what others would term as elements." "Those who can manipulate these elements would be called Elementalist. When you mentioned about arcane magic, it would be termed as air and earth magic now." Archmage Maelstorm explained to me, and I discovered something new that I had not noticed before. There was no Elementalist Class in this MMORPG at all and why was there a sudden appearance of such? Was it because of unearthing the mystery of the werewolf that was masquerading in the Mayor's skin? "Alright, then. Without wasting any more time, please take a look at your set of tasks that need to be accomplished. This is crucial before you are accepted as a student of the Archmage in Votrieburg City." *D I N G* A notification sounded in my head, and I checked the system panel. It showed that I need to head down to several locations inside the map to gather some resources. I would need to proceed to the peaks of The Wintry Hills to mine a thousand pieces of minerals. Then I would then head to The Bellowing Slopes to mine, another one thousand minerals as well. The process of gathering the minerals are crucial compared to the minerals itself. I used to wonder what was the use of these minerals before. Right now, it is not the time to ask the Archmage the use of the minerals, since I knew it would not worth much in the marketplace. The best way to earn money here in Votrieburg was to mine for ores, of course. That was one of the reasons that I had picked this country since I would have a pickaxe with unlimited durability bound to my account. Of course, that was one of the reasons why I had chosen this country. I would also be building up my professions as well as a Lifestyle Gamer. It would be explained further into the game, alright folks? "You can take your time to complete your tasks. It would be a test for you to gain recognition as a student here in this Archmage Towers. Believe me, these tasks are harder than it looks, Beast Tamer." "Go on ahead, return back here once you have one thousand pieces of minerals from both mountain peaks." I was shown the door by the Silverlight Knight once I had accepted the tasks. I checked the system panel once I had left the compound of the Magistrate's and I discovered that there was another panel that had just opened up. When I clicked on it, the system showed me this: [Weapon Skills] Piercing - Mastery of Axes Fencing - Mastery of Swords Heavy Weapons - Mastery of Hammers Magic Staffs - Mastery of Staffs Ranged Weapons - Mastery of Bows [Gathering Skills] Mining - Gaining ores to make Bars required for making pieces of Armour. Fishing - I could turn these into food that would be able to gain health during grinding of monsters. Woodcutting - Logs for making bows and branches for making Arrows Gathering - Plants to weave into cloth to make pieces of Armour [Crafting Skills] Metallurgy - Used for making the bars Blacksmithing - To make Armour. Cooking - Used for making cooked food that can heal in combat Carpentry - Used to make staves and bow frames. Weaving - Turning plants into cloth for Armour Fletching - Making arrows and bows Tailoring - Making light Armour I am not using a staff, but I am equipped with Vambraces as it happens to fall into the Weapon Skills under Staffs as well. The functions are the same, and it was currently highlighted. "This is a whole lot of information dump to those who are new to this, but it helps to explain every little thing that comes across my mind." I thought to myself and felt that the information dump from the system would be updated periodically. There is one paper doll which was worth mentioning since it depicts the damage and other ratings. Boots - Def +19 - HP +26 - Arm +10 - Dam +5 Leggings - Def +26 - HP +36 - Arm +10 - Dam +5 Robe - Def +33 - HP +46 - Arm +10 - Dam +5 Vambraces - Def +21 - HP +29 - Arm +10 +Dam - +5 Hood - Def +22 - HP +31 - Arm +10 - Dam +5 When I saw the statistics for all the attributes for the pieces of Armour, I was delighted to find that it had surpassed the default cloth armour by leaps and bounds. No wonder the Archmage wanted me to pick my own gear because the task seems much harder than it looked for sure. I searched my memories about The Wintry Slopes and remembered that there was a Bronze Sabre Tooth Tiger that was guarding those crystal minerals at the tops of the Slopes where the minerals were abundant. The Bellowing Slopes had a Blazing Three Armed Monkey that was guarding the brimstones minerals there on the mountain tops. These two minerals had no value in the marketplace at all, and it would only be beneficial to the mages for their magical uses only. However, getting up there is one thing. Defeating the guardians over there would be another matter altogether. Fortunately, these mythical beings guarding the mountain tops would only be able to detect intruders within a certain radius. I checked my minimap once again, and I drop a single marker on my first destination - The Wintry Hills. It would be a 5-mile hike, and for sure I would be alone there. Gamers would be heading to grind or farm for resources and level up their attributes. Unlike me now, I am just toying with time and then would strategise my other plans properly. I have now the title of Beast Tamer and also a peerage of a Baroness. This allows me to purchase lands, but the most important ones to accumulate is reputation points. I looked at the details of the Bronze Sabre Tooth Tiger that was guarding the crystals and looked at my pickaxe for mining, I laughed to myself. I am armed with a tool that doubles as a melee weapon. So noobish...Hahaha...!
