Meeting Him
I had the chance to travel for work and I would not let the opportunity pass me by. I did not know at the time he was having a concert in the same city. I was trying to consume as little social media as possible. I only created a social media account to follow him, but he rarely posts.
I had to be in New York to work for 4 days and had zero chance of meeting him. Destiny had other plans. I was introduced to him purely by chance. I was watching a lot of Thai drama and an interview he did came up on my YouTube recommendation. I watched the interview and found I was completely drawn to this man. I later found his music and I fell hard. I found him about January of this year or at the end of December, I'm not sure which.
The week before I had to travel was very busy. I had to ensure my presentation was perfect. I made it and showed it to my manager, got feedback and made the updates. I saved the presentation and ensured I had a back-up of my back-up. I also printed a paper copy just to be sure. I confirmed my visa and passport were up-to-date and confirmed my flight information. My flight was Sunday afternoon and the flight to New York would be about 4 and a half hours. My return flight would be on Friday morning. I made sure when packing I chose easy to wear outfits that would not require ironing. During that week, I did basic cleaning to make sure the house was not messy on my return.
This week I will have to conduct lectures on Monday and Tuesday. I would have seminars on development on Wednesday and on Thursday I would have back-to-back meetings. It will be a busy week. I was planning on making the most of the opportunity.
The day of my flight, I had my entire family seeing me off at the airport. A lot of bystanders probably assumed correctly that I was the youngest, and it would be my first time flying. I was nervous and extremely excited. I boarded my flight and, as my sister suggested, I walked with a book to read. I was too excited to nap, so I read for most of the flight.
On landing, I used the airport Wi-Fi to let my family know I had landed safely. There was transportation arranged from the airport to the hotel I would be staying in. During my stay I would be responsible for traveling to and from the office. I made sure to do my research and knew exactly which train to take. Thankfully, the office was 1 train stop away from the hotel. The subway was a 10-minute walk from the hotel. This I didn't see as an issue.
On Monday, 2 hours before my first lecture, I was already up and out of the hotel. I made sure to arrive with plenty of time to set up and get used to the space. My first lecture was at 9 AM and went until 12:30. They provided lunch, and then I had the second lecture at 2 PM. Once the day was done, I made my report and emailed it to my manager. I left the office and I wanted to grab dinner before going back to the hotel. I changed my mind and decided today I could eat in the hotel restaurant. I was passing by a café on the way from the train station and caught a glimpse of a familiar hairstyle. The hairstyle was distinct but when I glanced back I saw nothing. I shook my head and decided my mind was playing tricks on me, it couldn't be him.
The next day after both lectures were completed, I decided to try that café on the way to the hotel. I stepped inside and was greeted by freshly brewed coffee and baked pastries. It was the perfect combination of smells and I breathed deeply. I joined the short line and pulled out my phone, I put in my air pods and opened my favorite YouTube mix. I enjoyed rewatching the videos and going through the comments. I was bouncing along to one of my favorites and made it to the front of the line.
"What type of teas do you have?" I asked the girl at the counter while I looked at the different pastries on display. I didn't hear a response, so I glanced at her to see her staring over my shoulder. I also glanced back, wondering who it could be, and came face to face with him.
"It's you!" I gasped and hit my elbow on the counter, bringing a colorful curse to my mouth.
