Warning the Peril

Alpha Ren - POV “Why did you not kill that Fae woman? We need to get our mate back soon,” my wolf, Dom, growled in my head. Owen looked at me with concern as I paced back and forth in the room, trying to process everything. I could sense Dom’s sadness upon hearing that our mate had rejected us, but he was determined to show Larissa we cared. “Babe,” Abigail said as she approached me and hugged me. My heart used to skip a beat whenever I saw Abigail, but not anymore; my feelings for Larissa were stronger. “Babe, what’s wrong?” Abigail asked as she pulled away from the embrace to look at me. “Nothing, Love; I’m just worried about packing matters,” I replied. Abigail studied my face and nodded her head. “How about we go on a date to help you relax?” Abigail’s seductive voice didn’t ease the burn of rejection from my mate; instead, it annoyed Dom. “Love, I have some work to do. How about next time?” Abigail’s eyes glowed with a sad gleam. “Son, how many times have I told you not to make Abigail sad?” My mother, Rosa, came and glared at me. I ignored her. I knew my mother supported Abigail because she came from a wealthy background; her father was the alpha of the second-largest pack, Dark Forest. Although our pack was ranked first in both power and wealth, my mother’s greed knew no bounds. She wanted our pack to be even stronger, and if Abigail became the Luna, her background and wealth would be added to our pack name, making us untouchable and stronger. “I’m busy, Mother, and Abigail understand,” I said, staring at her. Abigail quickly nodded in agreement, and my mother sighed in frustration. I stepped out of the mansion to clear my head. “We need to find our mate, Larissa, or our powers will decline soon,” Dom added. “You only care about power. Don’t you worry about Larissa’s health and well-being? She’s staying with the Fae, who exploit everyone for profit,” I hissed. “Who said I’m not? I wanted to tear the limbs off that Fae princess. It was you who stopped me,” Dom argued. “I had to use my head to take down that Fae, not violence. It would only create more problems,” I sighed. “Why are we keeping our fate mate a secret from your mother? You know it’s hard for Alphas to find their fate mate after the curse broke out,” Dom added. “Alpha...” I turned toward an urgent voice behind me and saw Owen. “I know you’re worried about __,” Owen started. I raised my hand to stop him. “Cut to the chase, Owen. What’s your solution?” It perplexed Owen that I knew what he was going to say. “How about planting a spy in every town where you suspect the Fae Princess is running a business? I’m sure the Fae Princess made a deal with Larissa, although I’m not sure what it was,” Owen suggested. “Go ahead with the plan. Good work, Owen,” I said, and a gleam of satisfaction came over Owen’s face. I rarely showed my appreciation for his work. I checked Larissa’s background once again. She was an orphan who dropped out of school and saved the money our pack gave to orphan children to survive until she was fifteen. Larissa had been doing minor tasks at the cafe since she was sixteen. What kind of deal do you have with Princess Rachel? Larissa? You’re not highly educated, and what powers do you hold that the Fae Princess risks so much? ***** Harley -POV - {Larissa} I stood at Reynold’s door, the pain in my body intensifying, unsure of what to do or why this was happening to me. “Larissa, what is the matter?” Reynold paused as he held me, preventing me from collapsing to the ground. Reynold placed me on the couch as my vision turned blurry from the immense pain. I couldn’t even connect with my wolf, Stella. Reynold’s palms ignited with a blue hue as he placed his hand on my chest, and a soft coolness spread over my body, replacing the burning heat. “What is happening to me? I can’t understand this pain,” I gasped. “Larissa, you are suffering from mate rejection and destabilization,” Reynold explained. It was then that I remembered the context: a partial rejection of the mate bond could destabilize the wolf’s power. Water magic could reduce the burning sensation and bring the wolf’s power under control. I sighed with relief as the pain subsided, leaving my body numb. “Thank you,” I muttered to Reynold. He poured me some water, retrieved the medicine from the cabinet, and handed it to me to regain my lost energy. “Did you speak with Rachel?” I asked. Reynold gave me an explanation of how Rachel handled Alpha Ren. “I think you should put on a disguise; how about coloring your blonde hair red and changing your blue eyes to hazel? Your features will change,” Reynold suggested, waiting for my response. I nodded my head in agreement. Reynold quickly mixed two or three vials of herbs from the medical cabinet, and I knew the process thanks to my medical studies. Reynold gave me new medicine and advised me to take it the next morning after my exams, as the effect of the current medicine would wear off and not create any side effects on my health. The next day, I dressed up, ate a granola bar, and reviewed my textbook content, reminding myself of what I had learned over the past six months. I stepped into Reynold’s apartment, and Rachel appeared on the screen through a magical projection. Reynold handed me a set of questions and a paper to solve healthcare problems. After Reynold handed me a set of questions and a paper to solve healthcare problems, I had to heal the hospitalized patients who belonged to Rachel’s other clinic. After all the drills, the exam ended, and I retired to my bed. “Larissa, my child, I see you are doing well.” The Moon Goddess spoke with a solemn expression. “You have survived for six months, but the remaining six months will be dangerous. Be on alert.” The Moon Goddess’s warning jolted me awake, and I sweat. The surrounding air was unsettling. I saw a silhouette pass by my window.
