Chapter 4: Spellworking

1571 Words
"Soldiers, soldiers, soldiers, they are coming to ambush and attack us" Women screamed as they tried to grab their children and run to safety.  Confusion and panic have grappled the park at this moment. These are the same people who must have killed Mshapa the other day. The trucks are moving fast and are about to reach the park.  Mshapa clears his throat and says, "People don’t panic, come back please and settle down. These people won’t be able to do anything. Just sit down and see what will happen." Taita people obey and sit down as instructed by their commander. Mshapa stands in the middle of the podium and lifts his hands up. His mouth is seen moving, he must be chanting something, he must be consulting the spirits. Cars arrive, seven of them, with soldiers in full gear, ready for battle. Before even the trucks stopped they were already on the ground taking their positions.   "Just sit down and ensure you don’t move," Mshapa said. On the other hand, the leader of soldiers announces from the vehicle’s address system, "We are here on the courtesy of the government to stop this illegal gathering. You are all required to go back to your homes and we would love the organizers of this event to surrender to us peacefully. Mr. Mshapa must also submit to us. We want to do this calmly if you refuse to comply we would be forced to use other ways which won’t be appealing to most of you." People looked scared, they understood what this meant, they were in a dilemma of either to remain sitting or stand and walk back home. They looked at each other, then looked at their commander and wondered what to do. Mshapa was silent and seemed to look at the sky but before the people made any decision, something happened. Mshapa lifted his hands up again at full stretch and chanted something again. Suddenly, the thick fog started forming in the park. Everyone was shocked to see this, they thought it was about to rain. The fog got thicker and came down and covered everyone. It was very thick that they could not see each other, women and children were shaking, the fog and mist in it made them chilly. Still, they decided to be obedient to their commander and they sat without moving. All they did was cuddle each other to share their warmth and coziness. The ground started trembling and fierce sounds of cracking and bursting were heard, but no one knew its source. The fog became heavy, combined with mist, droplets, and looked as if it was snowing.  The soldiers were heard saying, "What is happening, ohh my goodness, what is this!" The harshness of nature became tough and for some time the whole park became silent, the fog headed to one direction where the soldiers were standing. The fog snuggled around them, it entangled them like a python attacking a cow with might. The fog and mist went around each of them like a long python, it choked them. They dropped their guns as they held on their necks in an attempt to grasp some air, but they could not. As they continue gasping for air to breathe, they fall down unconscious not knowing where they were. The spell from our forefathers worked, or maybe Mshapa had a special power in him. All soldiers fell down, they laid there like dead bodies, unconscious.  The fogs cleared, Taita people saw this and were amazed, they stood up, and danced in happiness. They all knew they were going to win this war against corruption and injustice in the world. Mshapa spoke, “Listen, my people, let us go ahead and eat, leave the soldiers alone, we are going to deal with them. Enjoy your day and be assured that you are on the winning team. I would love strong men to help us get the soldiers on the trucks. We shall head to the Liberty hall in the city center, where we shall discuss it with them further. The rest of the people stay here and enjoy the day.” Strong men grabbed the soldiers plus their weapons and put them on trucks. The strong men, elders, and Mshapa went to the Liberty Hall. Soldiers were still on a spell, the spell was still working on them. They were unconscious but still breathing.  Mshapa instructed the elders and the young strong men to go inside the hall. “What about the soldiers? Will they not wake up and attack us?” Pepo asked. “No they won’t wake up until we decide for them to wake and if we decide to make them stay like that for centuries that would be final,” Mshapa answered. They went inside the Liberty hall, Mshapa was the one calling the shots of what to be done. They all looked at him wondering what he was going to say.  He said; “We need soldiers!”  He stopped talking and swept his eyes through the hall looking specifically at the young strong men.  “You don’t need skills or experience, for now, all we need is commitment. I will install something in you, powers, and wisdom that will make you stronger than you are currently. This is a voluntary call and  if you wish to serve the planet with honor come forward.” Liberty hall is where Mshapa has been conducting all his activities before. The hall is enormous and can accommodate five hundred people at a go, there are several offices including his, installed with everything, a computer, printer, and all office accessories. All thirty strong men came forward, they were ready to be part of bringing change to the world.  Mshapa picked a bottle with a concoction, it was to initiate them into this mission.  “Listen carefully young men, this concoction will transform you, you will earn special powers for fighting, wisdom, and strength. No weapon will be able to kill you, you will know of an attack before it arrives, your minds will think only about justice, peace, and harmony of our planet. Make a straight line, each will take a tot of this power concoction.”  He turned and looked at the elders and said, “My elders we need to recruit more fighters, we need women also to join this group. Spread the word and those ready we shall recruit them.” The elders nodded in agreement. Mr. Pepo replied, “Consider it done our commander” Mshapa started from one end of the line, giving each of them a tot of concoction. The elders followed behind him and placed hands on them as a sign of blessing. “Be blessed and be a good soldier.” the elders went on telling each of them. As each swallowed the concoction, their bodies vibrated, veins could be seen all over their bodies, some screamed others groaned. The energy was streaming in them from a source not known, probably from the Gods.  “Now you are ready for this mission and today you are going for your fast mission. Your mission is to take these soldiers back to their camp and come back.”  They all go out and get in the trucks. They had two extra tracks that they will use coming back. They drive away through the hills heading to the soldiers camp which was located outside Taita. At this point, Mshapa knew he was going to face vicious opposition from different governors and he had to do something. When soldiers had gone, they all went back inside the hall. They had to discuss the way forward, they had to form a task force that would work on implementing change.  “My elders, it is time we form a task force that will spearhead our goal”, they all nodded in agreement. Mr. Pepo said “This task force should be formed as soon as possible because the government will come on us hard. We need to approach this in a way that we may not be declared as militia.” “I totally agree with you my elder but we should not fear and names we shall be given. Bad names will be given to us but we should focus on our final goal. At the moment I need a task force that will implement our goals and I need it now so that by tomorrow we can start.” They sit there and choose people that will be capable of participating in the task force. Each elder was given the task of informing all those chosen and that they are supposed to report at the hall tomorrow. The meeting ended and they went back to the park. At the park villagers had already eaten, they were dancing and drinking brews. The elders were served stewed beef and yams, the soup was plenty, delicious, and quenched thirst in them. They ate as they watched children, women, and men dancing in happiness. For sure when a human is full and healthy all they think about is merry.  The young men came back, the new sworn in soldiers, elders let the people know what was happening and they celebrated them. They were happy, it was a day of happiness. Soldiers sat and ate food as people looked at them. The cute ladies looked at them lustily, always women are attracted to strong men.  After eating they joined the ladies in dance, it was already dark and people started leaving the park in two. On such nights many people get laid, when a human is happy is full of energy, emotions, and affection.  They went to sleep and those with partners made love, enjoyed each other, sweetness.
