A story of Love

1024 Words
As King Lycaon approached the lake he spotted a beautiful woman sitting upon a large stone where she appeared to be singing. He found her voice to be enchanting but her words full of sorrow, as her song was that of longing. The king decided to approach the woman and ask her what had caused her so much pain. "My dear, what has caused you so much sorrow, that you sit here alone singing such a sad song?" He asks. "I have searched all over, and have not found someone to love." She says. The king looked at her in understanding, for he had ruled for many years without a queen by his side. "What is your name?" He asks her. "I am Selene." she replies. His heart skipped a beat when he heard her name, Selene, a beautiful name. It suited her well. "Well, Selene, I find your voice extraordinarily beautiful. What was the song that you sang?" He inquired. Selene's face broke into a sad smile. "It is the song of the Sun and the Moon," She let out a sigh. "They love each other but are forever destined to be apart" "That is sad," Said the king. "To live a life without love." "Tis fitting for I, my father has told me that I have until the full moon to find a husband or he will choose someone for me to wed. His choices are men I could never love." Her words made his heart skip a beat. For years he had been waiting for someone he deemed worthy enough to be his queen. Now such a beautiful woman was in front of him searching for love, who better for her than a king? "Well my dear Selene, I find you to be beautiful beyond compare, and I will gladly allow you to become my queen if you so wish. For I am King Lycaon, surely you wont find a better match then me" he tells her. She thought of the kindness he had shown her, and her heart warmed for this was a man she could love. "My lord, It would be my honor to become your queen" she bows. King Lycaon becomes over joyed, picking her up from the waist and spinning her around. Both of them delighted to have found someone to share their lives with. Setting the beautiful woman down she tells him that before they officially become man and wife, he must first ask her father for her hand. "who is you father?" he asked her "My father is the titan Hyperion." she says. "I shall invite him to the palace and throw a feast, surely he will not say no once he sees my wealth and power." the king says. So the King and Selene went back to the palace where they prepared a feast fit for a god. What they didn't expect was that the Titan Hyperion brought a guest to the dinner, the god of all gods Zeus. For if Selene was unsuccessful in her attempts to find a husband, her father would have her wed Zeus. Thus her father decided she would not be allowed to attend the feast for this would be a conversation only suitable for men. As the feast began King Lycaon wanted to win Hyperions favor, he began to boast about his wealth and lands stating he was the richest king on earth. Zeus laughed at this, for his kingdom Olympus was larger then earth itself. King Lycaon grew angry, but again he boasted of his power and armies for they had won every war they have fought. Zeus again laughed at the king, stating he himself ruled over all gods and because of this he was by far a more powerful king, for gods had powers and with the swipe of his hand he could destroy the entire castle. King Lycaon grew furious, He stated he could love Selene for the rest of his life and they would bear wonderful children. Zeus once more laughed at the king and said, I am immortal, I could love her for all of eternity while he a puny mortal would only live a short life. Thus I could give her dozens of children who would also be immortal. King Lycaon was enraged he threw the items from his table, growling at the god Zeus. Out of anger he attacked Zeus. Before he even reached the king of gods he was frozen in place, struggling to free himself. Hyperion tired of the constant bickering stands and speaks to the king "I can see now you are a beast full of anger, You boast of being all mighty and powerful when you are nothing more than a dog. Thus you should live your life as your true self, if she chooses you still then so be it, you may have her hand" So Hyperion asked Zeus to curse him turning the king into his true self, an angry beast, a wolf. The gods leaving the king alone with the mess he had created. Selene who had been hiding in the shadows approached the wolf. The king whimpered scared his beloved would reject him but instead she held him, running her hands through his fur, for she had truly grown to love the king and wanted to spend her life with him. With her eyes full of tears, Selene looked up to the moon and prayed. "Please, heal my king, I will give you anything." She begged. And so the moon took pity and granted her its power. With it, she mended the curse the only way she could, by tying it to the moon. The moon pulled the king's soul and split it in two, creating two separate souls, one of a wolf and one of himself, forced to share one body for the remainder of their lives. This allowed the king to shift from human to wolf and so he was able to turn himself back into a human and marry the moon goddess Selene. Who gave birth to the first werewolf children, Arsen, Adolphus, Vasileios and their only daughter, Mene.
