Odessa woke up to an empty bed in the morning.
Which means Desmond had already left for work. She had decided yesterday that she was not going to train today. It was time to find answers again.
So she took a shower, got dressed in warm clothes, and went on to look for a pen and paper to write a short note to Desmond, telling him she was going to be at the library.
She remembered Des's warning, not to leave the pack grounds alone, and she didn't want to anger him, so she ordered Sawyer to accompany her to the library.
"Good morning, my Luna."
He greeted her politely, bowing slightly at the waist.
"Morning, Sawyer," she answered.
"Would you like snacks to be packed for your journey into town?"
Her stomach rumbled as if it overheard their conversation, making her face beat red in embarrassment. But Sawyer politely didn't question it and took off to get her a basket of fruits and snacks to eat.
Suddenly, a thought crossed her mind, and she badly wanted to ask about it but didn't know if she should.
Curiosity won.
And she finally said to the young warrior,
"How is Alaric?"
The warrior had no expression or reaction on his face whatsoever, so it was hard to decipher what he was thinking.
"He is okay, Luna. He has woken up from his unconscious state and is with the Alpha and Beta."
She knew Alpha Desmond was going to drill Alaric for answers about what had happened. She just hoped he wouldn't spill the beans. Desmond would murder them both.
"Okay, then let's go."
The walk to the library wasn't lengthy at all, and in no time, Odessa was inside, surrounded by books, sick by Simeon himself, with Sawyer by the entrance of the library, guarding her.
But she had one problem, though she still couldn't find the old black book, and Simeon swore he didn't know where or how it got into that library.
She wondered if the book was just a hallucination.
No, it couldn't be.
She remembered seeing and reading it.
She wasn't crazy.
She scanned the books Simeon had recommended but came up empty-handed once again.
"Simmy, and there's nothing in this book worth my time."
She huffed in frustration.
She wanted to find something, anything.
What happened yesterday was making her mind buzz with unanswered questions.
She just needed to find that book.
"I'm sorry, Luna. But from all the information you have given to me about what you are trying to look for, these are the only books in the library I have containing such knowledge."
The man bowed, pushing his glasses up his face.
Odessa sighed and dismissed him.
Her stomach rumbled from hunger once again.
She had been here since morning and hadn't achieved anything.
She picked up an apple from the basket she brought with her to reduce the hunger she was feeling and decided to take a walk in the library.
Odessa couldn't deny that she was wasting her time here.
There was one person she could ask for all these answers and get it over with.
But she couldn't seem to trust him at all.
Alaric.
He had told her his father was searching for something and that she was the key to bringing his sister back to life.
She wondered if she should just wait for Delta Savior to be back from his journey and then ask him.
That was time on her side.
"What do you think? Aria, what should I do?"
"I advise we wait for Savior. But in the meantime, we keep searching for ourselves and continue with our training.
I feel it's getting stronger than we were two weeks ago. That should be a good sign."
Odessa was so lost in her thoughts, she didn't know when she approached the dank and dusty side of the library, where she had found the book on Silver Wolves the other day.
How had she subconsciously landed here?
Never mind that. Look again.
Maybe we can find something tangible, Aria advised in her mind.
So Odessa got to work, pulling out all the books she could reach and scanning through them.
For some reason, this side of the library had no ladder, so the remaining shelves she couldn't reach were still filled with books.
She decided to call for Simeon when she was done scanning through the ones she had.
For some odd reason, she felt like she was wasting her time.
"What are you doing on the floor, love?"
She screamed in fright as her heart thundered against her chest.
Desmond burst out laughing as he watched his beautiful mate almost get a heart attack.
He had gotten home early and found the letter she dropped on the bed for him about her day spent in the pack's library, accompanied by Sawyer.
So he decided to check on her.
When he got to the library, he followed her scent till he found her here sitting on the floor surrounded by books.
Her beautiful dark hair was a dishevelled mess, and her cheeks flushed from warmth.
"You scared the crap out of me," she yelled, slapping his chest.
He laughed heartily, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards his chest.
She knew she couldn't feel the mate bond yet, but she felt her heart pounding in her chest, and it wasn't out of fear.
Their proximity was going to give her a heart attack if she didn't move away fast.
"I was just doing some light reading."
She answered his question, detaching from his hold and picking up the books scattered on the floor and arranging them back on the shelves.
"It doesn't look light to me. It seems you are searching for something, Ara. What is it?"
The Alpha inquired softly, helping her arrange the books back on the shelves.
She didn't know why.
She hadn't asked Des about any ancient books.
He was the Alpha of this pack, so maybe he had a little knowledge of it.
"Well, I'm looking for something that has to do with ancient wolves with supernatural abilities."
He didn't look shocked at her answer, only curious.
"I have an archive filled with research on ancient wolves in my office."
He has what now?
An archive, you say?
"Yes, an archive. Savior has always been obsessed with war wolf history, so in his free time, he travels and does a lot of research to find out more on our ancestry."
This information was good.
It was very good.
And it made her day.
She felt like kissing Desmond that very moment but held back her excitement.
If she was going to find out anything about Silver Wolves, she hoped it would be in those archives.
"What are we waiting for then? Show me those archives .
