When they got back to the pack house, Desmond led his Luna to his office. He let her get settled on the long sofa in the room before going to his safe and bringing out everything he had about ancient wolf history.
He watched as she delved into the information in the books and wondered why and what she was looking for. Was she trying to figure something out?
Was it maybe about him being a hybrid?
His wolf dismissed the thought immediately. He knew Odessa, and if she wanted to learn more about his wolf, she would just ask.
His eyes traced her features from where he was sitting. He had work to do, but he couldn't help admiring his beautiful mate.
She had on a blue summer dress that hugged her curves in the right places.
Her dark brown hair was pulled in a half updo with a black band exposing the smooth and creamy skin of her neck.
His fangs lengthened as his wolf thought of his mark resting there.
Calm down, Des. Don't get us both worked up for nothing. We don't know if she will ever let us mark her.
I'm not the one who started to admire her in the first place. It's all your fault.
He snapped back at the Alpha, retreating to the back of his mind and blocking him out.
Des had been acting agitated ever since he found out Odessa couldn't feel the mate bond like they could.
He wanted to hold his mate and care for her. He wanted to feel the tingles and sparks mates felt, but it was like there was a massive block in the mate bond.
Making it one sided.
He had asked Desmond to investigate what could be wrong and if anyone had ever experienced such a thing. Desmond had promised him that he would.
But due to his tight schedule, he had been so busy with these rogue attacks he forgot about it.
Alpha Desmond huffed in frustration as he looked at the bunch of files on his table that he needed to sign.
Getting distracted by his mate, even though she was drop dead gorgeous, wasn't going to get any work done.
He decided to leave her to it and got to work on the number of files he had on his desk.
He would figure out what to do later.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the pack house, everyone was going about their business.
Two hooded figures were meeting to set their plan in motion.
So we have to find a witch.
The first person asked.
Yes, we do.
The second person replied, pulling her hood back to reveal her red-colored curls.
Whatever.
The first person couldn't understand why they needed to associate themselves with those lesser beings, which were cunning creatures.
And they never did anything without a price.
They were slowly becoming extinct after a war broke out between them and werewolves and, of course, werewolves won.
They heal faster and are harder to kill, whereas witches were similar to mortals with magic powers.
To make the Alpha go on a rampage, to make him run mad to the point of no return.
To make him desire nothing else but to kill, to satisfy his blood l**t.
Her eyes gleamed evilly as she spoke about her dastardly plan.
It freaked her out a little bit.
She ignored it.
And when Odessa realizes she shouldn't have crossed me, she would already be 6 ft. under.
The person spat venomously.
Odessa, on the other hand, was thrilled to find out that there was some information about what she was looking for.
Silver wolves were one of the greatest and strongest wolves in werewolf history.
Amongst three others, which included white wolves, onyx wolves, and lichens, respectively.
Silver wolves were said to be smart decision makers on the battlefield, fierce warriors, and the only werewolves in history to have the power of reincarnation.
So basically, they were immortal.
White wolves, on the other hand, had the divine power to heal, as they were blessed by the Moon Goddess herself, and were said to avoid violence by living in secluded mountains with lots of snow, unless their territory was threatened.
Then you would face their wrath.
Onyx wolves were strategists and also fierce warriors.
The disadvantage they had was their terrible temperament.
They were impulsive and sometimes killed without thinking first.
But they were loving to their pack members and mates.
Last but not least, lichens were the savage creatures said to be the first children of the Moon Goddess herself.
Their power was unmatched, both on the battlefield and out of it.
But they also had one disadvantage.
They suffered from blood l**t.
It was like a thread waiting to be snapped unless they succumbed to it.
And the more they ignored the blood l**t, the more dangerous it would be for people around them.
Odessa was finding it so hard to believe that such creatures had existed in ancient times, and why were they suddenly extinct?
Back in her old pack, she had never heard of wolves with these special abilities.
Most wolves she knew were dark or brown, in some cases golden, but never white or silver or onyx.
She turned to look at Des and saw him working over at his desk and decided to join him there.
The information about other wolves, like the silver wolf, was giving her a headache, so she decided to tone down on the reading for a while.
Desmond didn't realize his mate was done reading and was sitting in front of him because he was thinking so hard about something.
This was so unlike him lately.
He always looked so worried as if something bad was going to happen.
Or an unknown threat was looming over their heads, and they had no idea what was coming.
What are you thinking about, Des?
She asked him.
Placing her elbows on his desk and her face on her palms.
They had set a plan to capture a rogue, to interrogate them and get information on why they had been getting attacked at random.
But till date, the rogues were nowhere to be found.
It was as if they had disappeared into thin air, with no clue as to when they would show their faces again.
It was as if someone was pulling strings and playing with them.
And Desmond didn't like that one bit.
There was nothing he hated more than the unknown.
It was concerning that, at the moment they decided to set a trap for the rogues, they suddenly weren't attacking their borders anymore.
Desmond was finding it hard to say it, but he believed someone was working from the inside of his pack.
Someone was working with the rogues.
It was the only plausible reason he could find.
Des looked up at his mate and dropped a bomb.
I think we might have a traitor in our midst, love.
