FIGHTING OVER ATTENTION

Dustin, who was lamenting his bad luck in his heart, his expression never changed from the dumb look he had. His parents couldn’t hold in their laughter and they burst out laughing at their son’s expression, which was just comical. They knew what he was thinking, so Laura decided to sell out her son, “ By the way, Dustin is also Lia’s mate, but don’t worry, he is still in the process of courting her.” Leo just nodded, agreeing to his mate’s words.

It was shock after shock for Rance and Georgina. They had to digest all the news of their daughter being alive. They were happy but they had to find out if she inherited the family’s unique fur coat. “ Is her wolf white?” Georgina asked worriedly and her expression changed dark when Leo and Laura nodded their heads in agreement. The two parents were so worried that they started crying in pain for their daughter because they knew someone was going all over the world murdering white wolves.

“ What happened, why are you crying so painfully,” Laura asked in despair, but after they explained to her the situation everybody was stumped and shocked and finally worried. Dustin almost ran out to old Carl’s place to bring back his mate but was stopped just in time by his father. “ Old Carl will take care of them well, let them have fun before they come back to this mess.” Everybody agreed with his suggestion, hence they all sat down to make plans on how to protect the two white wolves.

Rain and Lia, who were the hot topic in the palace, were busy laughing their hearts out, tickling and being tickled by their grandfather. This scene was heart-warming. They took a break from all the laughter and fun. Old Carl was so happy, he held his grandchildren again and they were alive. Rain and Lia, who had never felt this much joy, were busy fighting for attention from their grandfather.

Old Carl saw through them and burst out laughing at their own antics, “ You are both precious to me, my little angels. With you here I will be able to protect you well because you are my everything and I will fight for you no matter what.” He said as he held them close to his chest, which was pounding with vigor, joy and determination.

“ Grandpa, you have to come back with us and you can stay at our place. I promise that you will love it.” Lia suggested, looking at old Carl with a pout making her look like an abandoned puppy.

Rain followed with his own pout, “ You have to move in because nobody has been able to handle Lia’s sass and sarcastic remarks, not even her mate can handle her!” “ You have a mate?” Old Carl asked surprised and a bit worried. “ Yes, he is my second chance mate. It took me a while before I accepted him.” Lia said with a bright smile on her adorable face. “ Who is he/she?” Grandpa asked cautiously, worried that she would mention a name related to his dark past.

He sighed in relief after she said he was the alpha king. He was happy for her because he knew Dustin well. After all, he was his godfather. He turned to Rain and asked with an eyebrow raised, but Rain just shook his head sullenly. He had been waiting for his mate for years but he hadn’t lost hope, so his sullen expression cleared and he smiled sweetly at his grandfather. “ Don’t worry grandpa, I am sure I will find him or her when the time is right.” Rain said with a smile and eyes full of hope.

“ Grandpa, what if you are blessed with a second chance mate?” Lia asked wearily. Old Carl sighed deeply with a sad expression and he said, “ I will definitely love and treasure her or him. I will never abandon my mate, no matter the circumstances. Your grandmother would want me to be happy and fall in love again. Us werewolves were created for our soulmates, perfect for each other. Some of us go through special circumstances whereby you will be blessed with two or even three soulmates. It’s rare but it happens.”

“ I suspect you two are such cases. Lia, your first mate, can’t break the bond even after the rejection. There is a reason why he was mated with you, but I don’t know why he rejected you. It is rare for such mating. The goddess made it that the one that brought up the rejection first will never find love nor a second chance mate. So he will forever roam the earth lifelessly unless he takes back his rejection. Finally, he won’t feel the mate pull and this is to punish the said person to atone for all the pain he/she caused. He has to make his/her soulmate fall in love in the human way.”

“ What if he/she fails to fall in love with this ex-mate, then what happens?” Lia asked curiously, because this might be her future. She wanted to know whether she could just ignore that damned Alpha Austin, because she hated him to the core and she might freeze him to death accidentally. “ Then he/she doesn’t have a choice but will loose their wolves, since our wolves can’t stay without their mates.” Old Carl explained patiently and being a wise man he figured out Lia’s situation.

Rain was also in deep thought and he said with resolve, “ I must beat up that bastard for hurting and bullying you and don’t even think of giving him a second chance because I will punch him every time we meet, which I will make sure it’s daily.” He said with a huff, anger swirling in his eyes.

Old Carl just chuckled and shook his head in amusement, his grandson still had a hot temper and was still overprotective of his twin sister. He couldn’t wait to see how their mates would handle them.

“ Okay big bro, I promise I won’t give him a chance at all. I have Dustin with me and we totally like him, especially Zaya.” Lia giggled while Zaya was busy cursing her in her head like a drunk sailor. “ He hurt you that badly, huh?” Old Carl asked cautiously because he felt her emotions wavering and the cold was a sign that topic was an open wound.

Old Carl and Rain sighed heavily, their hearts hurt for her, such a good child, had been through too much pain when growing up. They were determined to love her well and spoil her from now on.

Austin’s pov

I regret it so much. My wolf, Wind, has been in constant pain due to the rejection. Ever since we marked Lily, we thought life would be better and free from that orphaned omega, but it all went downhill one month later. Lily found her true mate and she broke our bond, which hurt my wolf more, and after my parents and the pack found out I rejected my mate and mated another, the council decided to strip me from the alpha position.

Afterwards, I found out that Ophellia was a genius and a powerful business woman. I didn’t even know that she had graduated college at eighteen and that the beta family had been protecting her. They were the ones who took everything I did with so much pain and anger. They even cut ties with my pack and will be moving to California to stay with their daughters in a week.

I have been locking myself up in my room, thinking of the choices I’ve made so far and regret is all I feel. Why did I choose such a path? Why? I thought of all the pain I caused Ophellia and Wind just whimpered in shame and pain too. “ Will she ever forgive us?” Wind asked through our link. “ I don’t know, I don’t think we even have a chance. Remember that day in the forest, when we found out that she froze one of our pack members? We didn’t even give her a chance to tell her side of the story, we just beat her up to a pulp.” I said with tears flowing down my cheeks.

I bullied her so much and gave her all the house chores. She never had a break and I never really cared about her food. I am a monster, I deserve all this pain and hatred. I am just glad that all the people involved in bullying her were all stripped of their power and positions. They are all omegas now and I ended up being an omega too. Funny how karma paid us back.

My father has been training my sister for the alpha position since her mate is a warrior and he declined the alpha position. I have to work from the bottom up to earn forgiveness and the trust of all my people and especially my ex-mate. I am sure the goddess has already blessed her with a second chance mate.

“ I promise you, Wind, I will find our mate and work for our forgiveness and maybe trust.” I said as I sighed heavily and Wind whimpered, covering his face with his front paws.

We will fight for her attention even if she has a mate already, even if we become her servants for eternity.

Back in California

Lia and Rain were so happy because their grandfather was going back home with them. He won’t ever leave them again and isolate himself from the world.

Old Carl was so moved by their invitation that he shed some tears, but they were tears of joy.

He had missed his son and daughter-in-law so much, he had been hiding in this place because he didn’t know how to face them after he lost both their mother and their daughter. He was hit the hardest by the two deaths. He almost became a rabid rogue.

With all these thoughts cleared and finding love and joy again, his heart was ready for a new beginning.

They arrived at the Dark moon’s territory after twelve hours of travelling non-stop. Dustin was the first one to feel his mate’s arrival. He was so happy that he jumped through his bedroom window, which was five floors high. He shifted midair and landed firmly on the ground, he shifted again and dressed in a pair of shorts and a big shirt and ran towards the incoming car.

Old Carl, who was driving, couldn’t help but snicker at Dustin’s eager face. “ This boy is whipped.” He said with a chuckle and Rain followed with a deep laugh while Lia sneered. “ Did he have to show his chest to everybody, he should have just used the door like other people.” Lia said and scoffed. The two men in the car just smiled and nodded, agreeing with their beloved granddaughter and sister. They were also competing for her attention so as to get more cheek kisses and hugs.

Another man has just been added to the list of attention seekers. I wonder if the other two couples will be on the same list too. I mean Lia is adorable and cute when happy and with the people she loved, she was like the warm sun on a cold day. Who wouldn’t love her or fight for her attention? I know I would.
