Chapter 8

1569 Words
Harper's POV I stretched my body slowly and lay on the soft mattress again. I had a peaceful sleep, one I haven't had in a long time. After Adonis left me, I became guilty for being rude to him for he had always protected me from bullies, including his brothers. So I ran back into my room almost immediately and forced myself to sleep. Then I remembered what happened the previous day and smiled at the turn of events. It still felt surreal; my mother becoming a Luna which resulted in the sudden elevation of our status. I stood up slowly from the bed and walked to the window enjoying the warmth I got from the sun rays on my skin. I trailed my fingers on the window pane, feeding my eyes with the activities of the maids and servants that were working. I used to be a part of them, and was insulted daily by people who shared the same class with me. I smiled at how funny life was and how things could change in the twinkle of an eye. Someone knocked on the door and I frowned, wondering who was trying to disrupt me from enjoying my quiet time. I nodded my head with a smile, realizing that I now had quiet time. The knock became persistent so I went to see who it was and regretted it. Damon stood at the door in all his glory with his usual annoying smirk plastered on his face. I wondered what he was looking for since it was no longer in my place to do his dirty jobs. "Bad morning," He said and waltzed into the room while I rolled my eyes. "What are you doing here?" I asked, still glaring at him. "I came to see you," He said and I folded my arms which pushed my cleavage a bit higher than it was. Damon's eyes drifted to my cleavage which irritated me. I took a look at my pajamas which consisted of a transparent sleeveless blouse and a pair of green shorts. The two-piece set was fitted so it clung onto my skin and showed every curve that I had. "Why are you gawking at me? You still haven't told me the reason you're here." I asked. "I just wanted to know if you are still alive. I know you enjoyed the room, since you never had the opportunity to own such a big room for once in your miserable life," He said and I chuckled. "Thanks for checking up on me, Damon. You are far too kind, now leave my room!" I voiced out. "You want me to leave the same way you sent Adonis out of the garden right?" He asked and I stared at him in sheer surprise. "How did you get to know about that? Are you stalking me now?" I asked, trying to control the anger that coursed through my veins. Damon needed to be given an award for being able to get under people's skin, especially mine. "That's none of your business, I just wanted to let you know that your charm won't work on my brother. You might be our step-sister but it's only by fate, not blood." He warned me and walked out of the room, leaving me to connect the dots. I imagined him following me down to the garden and felt some goosebumps rise on both my arms immediately. I was sure that I went to the garden alone, and I was on alert since no one was with me so I wondered how he got to see everything that happened. I shook my head to discard the crazy imaginations that filled my head and walked to the bathroom to freshen up. It would soon be breakfast time and I didn't want to be late for it so I rushed my preparations. The only problem was what I would wear, I didn't have good clothes yet so I brought out the most decent dress I had and put it on, and stared at my reflection in the mirror. The blue dress was worn out but it didn't have any tear like the other ones so I quickly brushed my hair and packed it in a ponytail then headed for the dining. The table was already set, and everyone was sitting but no one ate yet and I wondered if they had been waiting for me. It made me happy to know that even the Alpha couldn't eat because I wasn't present yet. I hurried to the table and sat greeting every one of them, including Damon. "You should not be late for breakfast," Atlas warned and I ignored him. "I'm sorry for coming late, Alpha, everyone. It won't happen again," I apologized and bowed to him. "It's fine, my dear. You just became a part of us so I don't expect you to know everything so quickly. Sit back and enjoy your meal," He said and I sat, then glared at Damon who was the reason for my lateness. He was still a pain in the a*s. I was sitting beside my mom who smiled at me and nudged me to eat to my fill. "We haven't had a such delicious meal in forever," She whispered excitedly. "Yes, mother," I replied and stared at the baked potatoes and grilled chicken that were served on different beautifully designed ceramic plates. "They look so good," I said and dug into the potato that I had dipped into the citrus cranberry sauce and almost moaned at how delicious they tasted. "And they taste so good," I added, I ate ravenously as I didn't realize that my stomach was empty due to what Damon had done yesterday. I kept eating not minding the glares I was getting from Damon. I had looked at him earlier while biting into my chicken to see him frown at me. He wanted me out of the table but it wasn't possible. So I paused my food and stuck out my tongue to him, making sure that no one was watching. In silence, we finished the food and watched the servants clear the plates and cups away. We waited back because the Alpha said he had a piece of important information for us. I couldn't call him father like the triplets did because I wasn't sure I had accepted him that way even though he was nice to us. I would have to talk to my mother about it when we were alone. "I hope you all enjoyed your breakfast?" He asked, rubbing his palms together and I noticed that it was a habit of his. Everyone agreed to the food was tasty meaning that they enjoyed it. "I asked you all to wait back because I have something exciting to announce to you, my precious family." With the way he sounded about the family, I almost forgot that we just became a part of it the day before. I wondered how a father could be in total contrast to his sons. "We can't wait to hear it, father," Damon snickered and I wondered if I was the only one who noticed the sarcasm in his tone or if they just wanted to ignore him. He inhaled deeply and I tried to imagine what he had in store for us. With how he smirked, I felt that he was going to say something nice but might affect us one way or the other. "We are going on a family trip," He declared enthusiastically and my mom clapped in delight. I was expecting a such reaction from her because it would give her the time to bond with her mate. But I thought about myself and how I would cope with the boys when they were away and almost cried. My eyes darted from Atlas who looked surprised to Adonis who stared at me also then looked away, my eyes finally landed at Damon whose mouth was wide open. He obviously didn't expect the news, and neither did we. "That's great news, when are we leaving?" My mother asked still smiling widely. "We would leave in two days so you can have enough time to pack your things and gather what you need," He replied to my mom and squeezed her hands gently. "For how long is it going to be and where are we headed for the trip," Atlas asked. "It's going to be for a week and the location will be kept private for now, it's a surprise," He said. "I thought about what happened last night and came up with this idea. The reason for this trip is for us to bond after everything that has happened," He explained. I could see the wisdom in his explanation but I was scared that we might never bond for obvious reasons. If Damon was out of the picture then I would have appreciated the idea but now, I didn't know how to feel. "Harper, don't you like the idea?" He asked and I nodded vigorously. "I do, Alpha. It's really nice," I replied. "I'm sure it is for you, i***t," Damon cussed under his breath but I could hear him because he was sitting close to me. I rolled my eyes. I wasn’t going to allow him to spoil the first vacation I was ever going to have. The mere thought of it excited me.
