the Faery Ring
You would think being a faery with complete control of earthly elements would be exciting. You would be wrong. Due to our "cruel" nature we are confined to a faery ring the majority of the time. It is exceptionally boring and can often feel lonely. Young, in experienced faeries often dream of finding the human whose first laugh birthed them. Yeah, Peter Pan got one thing right. Faeries are born when a baby laughs for the first time. But because we are created out of this one moment of pure joy we cannot feel real happiness without that person. Male faeries tend to be cruel and female faeries just are depressing. You can see why I'm not a fan of being stuck with a bunch of my own kind.
I never harbored delusions of meeting my person but like I said female faeries are depressing. I preferred to entertain myself with elementals. Elementals are the product of humans and faeries. They got none of the moodiness of faeries or the servitude to the earth goddess but they got to command one element of magic and the personality to match.
I was already dating a fire, wind, and earth faery. I just needed water and I'd have the best of all while easily avoiding all the annoyances.

When I first saw her she was sitting on the end of a fountain in the middle of our faery rings academy. She had chocolate brown hair and piercing green eyes. Typical of an earth elemental. Made sense that the earth goddess bestowed the best looks to those with her most sacred magic. What was different about this girl was that she was dragging orbs of water from the fountain, letting them float in the air, then catching them in her mouth. It was a common water elemental trick, an easy way to show off their magic.
As a friend of mine walked by, another water elemental, I reached out and grabbed his arm.
"Hey, Maverick, who is that?" I asked nodding my head toward the girl at the fountain.
" Oh that's Venus. Not really your type man." he smirked.
Not my type? That's why I was dating three girls. I could pick and choose who was my type in the moment. Ignoring what Maverick said I strolled over and sat next to the girl.
" Nice trick there. The name's Ian" I said offering her my hand.
A sweet half smile crossed her face as she replied, " Nice to meet you Ian. I'm Venus. I hate to be rude but I actually have to get to class. "
" Yeah, of course. But what would you say about just this one time skipping and going swimming with me instead?" I suggested.
" Well I guess one time couldn't hurt"
