Chapter 3

THREE YEARS LATER.

Diana Cruz arrived at Montes airport, she walked towards the car that came to pick her up, the driver opened the door and she got in.

“It’s been such a long time, finally in Montes." Diana thought as she took off her glasses. The driver took off heading home but Diana stopped him.

“We are going somewhere first." Diana demanded.

“Ma’am it was the senator’s request to bring you home first." The driver said.

“I said I need to go somewhere first so turn the car around, I am your boss and am not that little girl anymore." Diana spoke with a demanding voice.

“Yes ma’am." The driver obeyed and turned the car around. 

In detective Jack’s house he was preparing to go to work but his little 11 years old sister couldn’t stop joking around with him.

“Annie we are going to continue from where we stopped I promise, am off to work now." Jack told his little sister with a big smile on his face.

“Hey stubborn girl let your brother go, he might get late to work." Emilia (mother of Jack, Annie and Tracy) said. 20 years old Tracy was just in the sitting room doing her own business but suddenly the door was knocked.

“Oh I will open that as I leave, see you later guys." Jack said as he walked towards the door and opened it. He was really surprised because of what he saw.

“Jack... " Diana said as she fell on his arms crying.

Jack was speechless for like two minutes as his all family got closer. “What are you doing here Diana?” Jack asked as he took her off his arms. Diana looked down as she cried.

“Diana!” Tracy happily went to embrace her.

“How are you? I missed you." Diana told Tracy as she wiped her tears.

“Am fine you Look beautiful." Tracy complimented.

“Thanks you are all grown up now." Diana said and immediately turned to Jack.

“Jack we need to talk please." Diana pleaded.

“Not now, am going to work. I will catch up later with you if I get time, excuse me." Jack said and walked out.

“Jack...” Diana wanted to follow.

“Let him be." Emilia told Diana and she stopped.

Diana was welcomed and sat beside Tracy while crying. Tracy tried to calm her down, Emilia took a seat facing them.

“Mom am sorry about everything that happened, I never wanted for things to happen that way it was my…” Diana tried to explain herself.

“Diana,” Emilia called and interrupted her. “I don’t want to know much of why things happened the way they did, the only thing am thinking right now is that you are back and the old story might rise again. It was absolutely hard for Jack to get over what happened in the past and am not ready to see him suffer like the way he did again." She added.

“Mom that will never happen again." Diana cried.

“With no doubt I know you are a good girl and I like you a lot but you being who you are and Jack being who he is, it won’t be easy being you so if circumstances are still the same, don’t try bringing the old story back, excuse me." Emilia said and left.

“Mom please." Diana pleaded but Tracy calmed her down by telling her “everything will be ok Diana I will help you. Listen you are the only sister in law that will ever be, a sister I never had.” She added and embraced her.

In the evening there was special dinner in the senator’s house to welcome his beloved daughter. It was the senator and his son Edward and his daughter Diana.

“So my daughter is all grown up and she didn’t want a welcome party." The senator wondered.

“It is not necessary dad, it is better this way just with family." Diana said.

“Um did you pass in the city, in mom’s house?” Edward asked.

Diana stopped eating for a while and her face turned to a mad one. “Edward I want to hear nothing about mom right now, please don’t spoil the moment." She said.

“She is still your mother." Edward said.

“Yes honey I don’t like your mom but all she ever wanted was the best for you and she is still the woman who gave birth to you and she loves you." Senator Cruz said.

Diana put the folk down with anger and stood.

“The best for me? Did you hear yourself dad? Do you know what I went through all those years after what mom did to me? I came to live in Montes because I want a peace of mind, please don’t make me feel the other way round dad." Diana said and walked away from them.

In the next day Jack and Diana were having lunch in a restaurant to speak through what happened in the past as Diana pleaded.

“Mom put so much pressure on me Jack, she took me to the doctor and made me abort our baby and there was nothing I could do and she immediately prepared my journey to the USA for further studies even without me knowing and she sent me away just like that." Diana said. “Jack please understand that I was young back then, I had a lot of passion and I was so highly pressured by mom I wasn’t in control of my own life. I really hope you find it in your heart to forgive me." Diana sadly explained.

“You were young, weren’t you?” Jack said and chuckled. “You were young but woman enough to throw yourself on my bed and get pregnant?” Jack asked as Diana looked so down and her eyes brighten with tears. “I was 21 but I was more than ready to welcome that child and take responsibility for it but of course I didn’t have enough to give you the life of a princess that you were so used of." Jack sadly spoke. “And because your parents threatened to disown you if you would not take away the innocent life in your womb, you decided to turn your back on me and aborted the child." He added.

“Jack please understand." Diana cried.

“I pleaded, I begged you over and over to save my child but you closed your ears and turned away from me Diana." Jack recalled with a sad tone. “You remember the first thing you told me when we found out you were pregnant?” Jack asked.

“I was just confused Jack...” Diana defended herself.

“You said that you would get rid of it and I knelt down before you to plead for the life of that innocent child but what did you do?” Jack scolded. “You went to your parents and told them so that they would help you finish what you planned." He said and Diana slapped him.

“I admit that I didn’t want it in the first place but I didn’t want to abort it later on until when mom put me under so much pressure." Diana said.

Jack held her hands and said to her, “The past is so painful to remember girl, but one thing for sure with no single doubt I loved you, I loved you badly. You have no idea of the kind of life I lived when you left me, everyone who knew me saw that I was so tormented, a pain that was so hard to handle." Jack sincerely spoke as Diana dropped some tears.

“And you have no idea of how much I suffered day and night knowing I left the love of my life just like that plus the child we lost, it was unbearable Jack." She cried and slowly fell into his arms as they stood up.

“You know what’s the best part of the story? I have forgiven you for every pain you caused me and I hope you too forgive me." Jack said as Diana slowly began smiling. “And above all, the best is that I got over you and I think it’s best if we close the old chapters and live a normal life, you are very beautiful Diana find love again and live happily again, there is no us again girl, no." Jack said as Diana felt spears crossing her heart.

“Jack don’t say that, I love you." Diana said and forced a kiss on him but in no time he took her off. “Look at me in the eyes and tell me that you don’t love me Jack, tell me." Diana asked. 

He let her go and said, “There will not be us again." He walked away from her and went to his office. Diana was left alone crying.

Primrose put on a black trouser and a black T-shirt and shades and went towards the Casino hotel where Rosario worked. Many Martin’s people spent time there. She went where Rosario was and sat on the same table with her. Rosario carefully looked at her and asked, “who are you and what do you want." 

“I am a customer and I need a drink." Primrose said. Rosario chuckled and ordered a maid to bring her a drink. She took it and sipped, she then took off her shades. Rosario was surprised but wasn’t sure.

“Primrose is that you?” she wondered.

“Nice to see you again Rosario." Primrose said.

“Where were you? They searched all over Montes for you, even in the borders there is security ever since so you won’t escape, so how did you manage?” Rosario calmly asked.

“It’s such a long story, and if my memory serves me right you told me not to trust you." Primrose said.

“Yeah sure, how have you been girl?” Rosario asked.

“I couldn’t have been any better." Primrose said.

“Good now get out of here Martin’s men will soon arrive, it is almost their hours." Rosario said.

“I don’t care I am not afraid of your boss my dear." Primrose said and Rosario chuckled, she gave her a round of applause.

“Am proud of how you have grown and you even look more beautiful, I wonder if Martin will see you and dare let you go tonight." Rosario said, “So beautiful and confident am proud my girl now please I don’t want trouble, leave." Rosario said.

“Are you afraid of trouble or your man throwing himself on me? He has always been your everything right? You would rather be treated like a slave and beg for his love all your life just to be beside him and his money which he doesn’t give you for free." Primrose said and Rosario slapped her on her face. 

Primrose smiled and said to her, “look at yourself, you are obsessed with that animal that you don’t know if you can survive in his absence. Well I have bad news for you, Martin’s days are numbered and am afraid you have to learn to stand on your own." 

“You? Number the days of Martin?” Rosario laughed.

"Bye" Primrose said and left.

“I think I should let Martin know, this girl just tried me.” Rosario was mad. “Am sorry Cassie I really wanted to do nothing that would harm your girl but, it seems she wants to know what I can do.” Rosario thought.

Vero and Primrose were in their grandma’s house talking.

“Rosario will eventually tell Martin that she saw me. Martin will soon approach Mr. Greg and find any way to take me to him, and once I am in his house I will do everything to find out where David is and when I do, we will have no reason to wait, we will put an end to his good for nothing life." Primrose said.

“Yes my dear but this is not just as easy as we think. I need you to be very careful when you are in Martin’s house Primrose, I don’t want to lose you." Vero said and they hugged.

“I will sis, I will." Primrose said.

On that very same night Rosario had a lot of thoughts and she sat on a table sipping her drink. Gerry soon arrived and sat next to her. He looked at her and continued sipping his own drink. After 5 minutes of silence, Gerry said, “You do know that the boss has ears and eyes everywhere." 

“Are you going to wait for me to ask what you mean or something?” Rosario asked. 

Gerry chuckled and said, “What business are you having with Primrose behind our back?” Gerry asked.

“What do you mean? I haven’t seen that girl for years." Rosario said after remembering her lovely step mother’s words. “You are my step daughter but I have done nothing but love you just like I love my daughter Cassie, but all you return is hate in this family! Can’t you understand the importance of family, huh? We are your family and as family we should just do good to one another, love and protect each other in spite of our differences." Her step mom scolded her once.

“Don’t play damn with me, or do you want the boss to find out?” Gerry asked.

“I have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about." Rosario didn’t want to expose Primrose.

“Well for your information we already know where she is and early tomorrow the boss will follow her.” Gerry said.

“Okay I just saw her today and she brought herself here. Why would I want her to be found if she is all what my man wants?” Rosario asked. “Does that make sense to that stupid brain of yours?” she asked and stood then walked away from Gerry and left him speechless.

It didn’t take long for Martin to approach his sometime business partner Mr. Greg in order to take away Primrose who worked for him in his illegal businesses.

“Oh Martin take a seat." Greg invited him in his office.

“Thank you partner." Martin took a seat.

“You must have some interesting business Martin.” Greg tried to guess.

“With no doubt.” Martin said and they all laughed a bit.

“So what do I owe this pleasant surprise?” Greg asked. Martin sighed and looked straight in his eyes.

“You have strong and faithful people working for you that is why all your businesses are running well.” Martin said.

“Oh with no doubt Martin.” Greg said.

“If only it were possible I would buy some with a high price.” Martin said then Greg laughed a bit and shook his head.

“It is impossible at whatever cost my friend. My people belong to me, they can only be mine. Their whole self belongs to me.” Greg refused. “Don’t tell me it is what brought you here?” he asked.

“Of course not please don’t take that seriously my friend.” Martin said. “You are very much aware of the threats our businesses are facing recently.” He added.

“I know Martin but go straight to the point.” Greg said.

“Good, well as you can see the senator has become a very big threat to our businesses, that damn author Clive Johns and above all the new detective brought from the city together with the town detective.” Martin said and Greg nodded. “These people aren’t easy to deal with as you can see they are a bit powerful, my friend I want to join forces with you to fight these threats.” He added.

“To fight? Meaning what exactly Martin?” Greg asked.

“If you agree to this we shall completely remove them from the picture, we will kill them.” Martin said.

“As easy as that? You are talking about the senator, that author that everybody in this country listens to and reads his works and trust him Clive Johns and detective Martinez a highly technical detective who is known for doing his job perfectly and ending bad situations and he is also very powerful, to leave behind the young detective and his crew we would even silence them in a blink of an eye.” Greg said.

“With the power you and I have, I will prove to you how easy that work will be.” Martin said.

“Martin I have worked so hard for this businesses, legal and illegal you see I would rather drop financially than see myself fall in a blink of an eye. The war you are about to begin trust me there are high chances things might not work on your favor." Greg said

“Just add my forces by adding me more people and stay behind to watch my victory.” Martin said.

Greg sighed and said, “Okay under one condition, when the job is done there should not be left any piece of evidence that will get me and you in trouble. Set people aside who will specifically be for this mission, 2 from me and 2 from you and in the end all the six people should die to completely eliminate any possible evidence.” Greg said and Martin was quite shocked because Primrose was to be among.

“There is no problem with that.” Martin accepted.

On that evening Primrose and a certain man were chosen by Martin himself and went to Martin’s house. They discussed on the plan and later on Martin and Primrose were left alone.

“Look at how beautiful you have become.” Martin said and tried to touch her hair but Primrose immediately removed his hand.

“Don’t you dare, if you dare try to harass me I will tell my boss the truth about your interests because we all know you would have accomplished this mission alone but all you wanted was me from there. If you dare, try to hurt me he will never understand because am still under him and I have heard a rumor that the boss Martin is kind of afraid of my boss.” Primrose said and walked away. Martin was speechless as Primrose walked away.

On that very same night Greg called Vero in his office and had a conversation with her.

“Veronica you are someone I can trust because I have worked with you for such a long time. I know Martin’s last interest is to join forces with anyone because he never wants to share his achievements with anyone, although it is true if he accomplishes that mission it will also work on my favor. There is something else behind this thing of him joining forces so I need you to find out what exactly it is.” Greg said.

“Yes boss I will definitely find out you have my word.” Vero said.

“Alright you can go now.” 

“Um boss one more thing, I have been thinking about, we all know that Martin is not good enough dealing with his people he even kills them at times when he feels they aren’t good enough or when they wrong him.” Vero said, “what I am trying to say is, boss the two people Martin took are still your people and they know our secrets and our businesses so please assure them protection from Martin, he should not threaten them, harm them or much less end their lives or else Martin might get a chance to use your people for his out of mission plans and who knows maybe even against you someday.” Vero added.

Greg nodded as he looked at Vero but before he spoke anything Vero said, “because we are not even sure of the real reason why he took your people.”

“Good I think you are right.” Greg said. “I will tell him immediately.” He added, “The first thing in the morning tomorrow I want you to go to Martin’s place and look through the plans they have set and bring me updates.” He added. 

“Yes boss.” Vero said.

“You can go now.” Greg permitted.

“Excuse me boss.” Vero said and walked out.

It was in the morning the next day where Diana was in her room reading some articles as a maid came in.

“Ma’am there is someone who needs to see you.” The maid said.

“Is it a man or a woman?” Diana asked hoping inside it would be a man, Jack to be specific.

“It is a woman.” She replied.

“Tell her to come back in the evening.” Diana said.

“Ma’am she seems to have come a long way.” The maid said.

“Didn’t you hear me? Tell her to come back in the evening I don’t want to see anyone right now.” Diana scolded the maid.

“Am not so sure if you wouldn’t want to see me too.” Rose got in.

Diana’s mouth was wide open in surprise as she wondered, her beloved best friend was right there in front of her.

“Rose!” Diana ran to her and hugged her happily.
