Kyle’s POV:
“This is absolutely ridiculous. You mean to tell me that with all of the wolves and Lycans that we have here, and not a single one of you can pick up on a trail?!”
Michael sunk back in his seat as I scolded him and the other high rankings in the room. It had been 24 hours since Rylee and AnnaLee had been taken, but no one could seem to find s**t to help us get them back.
“I’m sorry King Kyle, I really am, but it’s like they vanished. There was never a “scent” to begin with. The only reason we even know they were taken is because you saw them leaving into the forest, and they aren’t here. We never would have even known to look in the basement had the glass not been shattered, and that white powder left scattered on the floor.”
This was ridiculous, all of these smart minds around us and no one could figure anything out. I knew it wasn’t any of their faults directly, but that didn’t make me any less furious.
It was time to call for backup. I spun around picking up my phone, but I found myself hesitating. It wasn’t an option anymore though, I had to get my mate back, I’d waited too long just to have her ripped away from me.
I opened the screen and started dialing a number that I swore I’d never call again.
“Well hello there handsome, and to what do I have the pleasure of your call?”
I’d really wished I’d hadn’t put her on speaker.
“Cut the crap Clara, this is a business call, and nothing else.” I could feel myself instantly regretting this.
“Oh calm down Mr. King, whatever you need you know I’ll happily oblige.”
I could hear the smirk in her voice from over the phone, and it made me disgusted all over again.
Clara was the best hunter I’d ever met in my life. Vampires, witches, werewolves, you name it she could find it. We had dated for a while a couple years back and I thought that she was my destined mate.
That was until I had found out that she had a charming spell cast upon her. She had swore it was placed on her by a witch many years ago, and never meant to use it against me like that. It still didn’t make it any easier though.
I finally thought I had found my mate, and I was just under a spell. I was glad I hadn’t marked her before the truth came out, and was furious she hadn’t told me from the get go.
So I broke things off with her, and told her never to contact me again. I guess fate had a different plan in store though, because there I was, calling her for help.
“Listen Clara, my-..” I quickly remembered that Luke was in the room. I knew it would come out that Rylee was my mate when this was all over, but it was definitely not the time to do it.
“My pack and another needs your help. Two of our wolves were captured. The Luna and her sister. We can’t find a single trace, and I know you are the best in the business.”
“Interesting. Sounds like my kind of work, and I’ll gladly accept, for a chance at another date with you.” She was so confident in saying so that I almost wanted to hang up on her.
“Don’t even count on it. I expect to see you here as quick as possible, and you will be compensated heavily for your help.”
“Fine. You aren’t as fun as you use to be. I’ll be there in five minutes.” She huffed back into the phone before I hung up.
I looked at Luke and let him know to alert his men a visitor would be arriving to assist us.
“That’s fine, I already linked them to let them know, but how is she going to get here so quick? To get off of our land alone takes ten minutes by car?”
“Well, she was raised by wolves since her dad is one. So she is part wolf, but her mother was a vampire. She died during childbirth, but that still left Clara being half wolf half vampire. She can essentially teleport here.”
Everyone’s eyes focused on me. I could tell they were skeptical, but no one would say so since I was the king.
“Look, if I didn’t trust her abilities I wouldn’t have called her. We need to find Rylee and AnnaLee and we have no leads. Clara is the best there is at tracking the supernatural of any kind, so trust me on this. It’s already been 24 hours, and we can waste anymore time.”
Everyone nodded and seemed to have pushed aside any doubt they had. Michael and Xavier already knew Clara from when we dated. So they were already well aware of what she was, and what she was capable of.
Just like that, almost five minutes to the dot, a cloud of purple smoke appeared and Clara made her way up to the pack house.
She was definitely a beautiful woman, long brown hair, big hazel eyes. Plus her being half Italian always left her skin in a way that looked like she had just come back from the beach.
She didn’t need any help finding a man, but the spell placed upon her sure as hell helped things along.
It had happened when she was 19, and she encountered a witch who asked for her help. Clara knew she was beautiful and was extremely stuck up back then. So she denied helping the witch in any way.
The witch got so angry at her arrogance that she placed a curse on Clara. Ensuring that all men would be drawn to her. Which didn’t sound so bad to her, except when she realized she would never be able to find her mate.
She would never know if the man actually loved her for her, or just because of the spell, and that was the real curse. To never find her true love, It’s was extremely sad honestly.
It still gave her no right to trick me all that time into thinking she was my mate, so my sympathy ended quickly.
All of the men were almost drooling when she walked up to the doors. I had to clear my throat to make them snap out of it, so we could get to business.
“Ahh Mr. King, it’s so good to see you again. You two as well Mr. Beta, and Mr. Gamma” she motioned to Michael and Xavier who were well aware of her “charm” by that point, and weren’t phased.
“Hello Clara. Thank you for coming, if you’ll please follow me back to Alpha Luke’s office, and we will get started filling you in on what’s happened.”
We rounded the corner and went up the stairs back to Luke’s office, where he and his Beta Sam were waiting patiently.
I had already filled them in on her gift, and hoped we could get straight to business without anymore ogling.
“Welcome Clara, it’s nice to meet you. This is my Beta Sam, my Gamma Tyler is investigating something at the moment and will be back later. Please have a seat.”
“Thank you Mr. Alpha. Now, what is it that you have for me here?”
She leaned forward looking at the maps we had spread out, as we explained the details of the fight, and the kidnapping.
After she was up to speed on everything, she locked eyes with the bag of white powder on Luke’s desk, and pointed to it.
“Do you mind Alpha?”
Luke shook his head and watched curiously as she picked up the bag and examined the contents. I had to admit I was curious as well, we had still yet to figure out what it was.
“Where did you find this?” Clara asked abruptly.
“It was on the floor in the wine cellar where Rylee and AnnaLee were taken from. We were careful not to touch it, but tried to save as much as we could to see if it had a hand in their kidnapping.” I chimed in, and saw her face fall.
“Well I’d definitely say it had something to do with it. It is very hard to come by, much less by a wolf. It is extremely powerful, and this tiny amount here could probably put you all on your ass in a matter of seconds.” She looked at the bag back and then looked back at me.
“Yes, AnnaLee was knocked out, but Rylee was awake? She looked like she had been through hell, but she was awake. So how could that be?” I remembered back to the dull lifeless look in Rylee’s eyes, and had to keep myself from getting angry again.
“I don’t have an answer for that, but if she was exposed to this, and it seems she was, then she must be very powerful to combat something of this caliber. This powder is mainly used by vampires. I know you said wolves attacked, but if I had to bet, they are working with a vampire, or one is in charge.
As you’re well aware, vampires and werewolves usually don’t get along well. So I don’t foresee a vampire just handed this stuff over to them.” She set the bag back down on Luke’s desk.
The room fell silent as Clara made her way back around to the map, pointing at the spot that the girls were taken from. She had asked us to take her to both spots, where they had been kidnapped, and where they were last seen.
**********
After Clara was well informed, and studied both the cellar and the forest entrance she clapped her hands together.
“Okay. I have what I need to get started, but before that I need to refuel.”
I could see a ring of red forming around her eyes and knew she needed blood before we could continue.
Thankfully she had brought her own in an insulated bag. I knew we would probably have to get more from the pack hospital though, since we didn’t know how long any of this would take.
It was better for our sake that she had some backups, just in case. I had Luke take care of finding her a room to utilize, and went to find his Gamma Tyler. He had been gone an extremely long time.
I made my way outside and over to the tree line when I saw Tyler running back out with two other warriors behind him.
“King Kyle, Thank Goddess you’re here.” He panted as he slowed when he reached me.
“What on earth is going on Gamma? Where have you been?”
“This is where I’ve been!” He excitedly held up a black flat shoe he’d been holding in his hand.
“Okay? Is that Rylee or AnnaLee’s?” I asked. I wasn’t sure why I still couldn’t pick up on a scent from the shoe though.
“I was looking through the woods again, because I knew we had to have missed something. Rylee may have been out of if, but I knew that if she was awake she would do anything possible to leave a clue for us..... and she did! It’s her shoe!” He started frantically waving her shoe around again.
“Do you remember exactly where this was? Was there anything else close by?” I was out of breath by that point. Just the thought of finding Rylee had taken my breath away. I needed her back.
“No, unfortunately there wasn’t. I actually almost missed the shoe honestly. I couldn’t smell it at all, I barely saw it out of the corner of my eye.” His head fell as he continued.
“We looked in about a mile radius but didn’t find anything. I do remember where it was though, so atleast we have a general direction now! And if I had to bet, she left her other shoe somewhere along the way also.” Tyler, excited again, handed me the shoe, waiting for me to inform him on our next step.
“This is great. I want you to link Luke immediately and tell him what’s going on. I’ll go find Clara and fill her in on this new update. We are going to get Rylee and AnnaLee back!”
“Yes King Kyle!” They shouted in unison, and we all parted to take care of our tasks.
I wasn’t sure how their scents were being masked this well, but It made me think back to what Clara had said about the powder. If a vamp was really behind all of this, he was going to regret it.
