The next day, when Elena woke up, she felt she had fully recovered. The dragon’s cure was very effective. She didn’t feel sick and weak anymore.
Aurora and Bella brought a maid's suit to her, which was very different from the colorful but thin dresses they were wearing.
Bella comforted her, “Don’t take it too personally. You attacked Lennie and tore her face. Of course, she will pick on you. The thing is, Lennie never attaches to things, neither good nor bad. She moves on very easily. As long as you play along with her, don’t go against her will, she will get bored in literally three days and forget about you. What happens next will depend on you and your king. You know what I mean.”
Elena nodded her head. She knew those dragon girls would be partial to Lennie, but it didn’t really matter. Like Bella had suggested, her true enemy was Cory, not Lennie. She must escape from the kingdom and cut the connection with him.
“My parents,” Elena asked, “did you get in touch with them? What did they say? When can I meet them?”
Aurora and Bella exchanged a look. They placed their hands on Elena’s shoulders and helped her sit back on the bed.
Elena had a really bad feeling about this. “What?” she asked anxiously, “What happened?”
Aurora bit her bottom lip hesitantly before she gave Elena the bad news, “Well, last night after you went to sleep, we sent Rola out to look for your parents.” She jerked her chin at a thin girl with short hair and dark skin. Elena knew it was the girl with the sharp voice. She asked, “And then? What happened? Did she find them? What did they say to her?”
Bella let out a sad sigh before she pulled Elena’s hand into hers, “I am sorry, Elena, but Rola couldn’t find your parents. She asked around to find out what happened to them. Some wolf guards told her that your king had exiled them to the rogue’s land. It seemed like your parents had tried to break into the mansion to get you out the day before.”
Elena totally froze. Tears welled up in her eyes.
“No,” she said. “It’s impossible! How could he do that?! My parents were the Kingdom’s Betas. They’ve devoted their whole lives to the kingdom. How could he do this to them?!”
Aurora wrapped her arms around Elena’s shoulders and hugged her. “Poor girl,” she sighed. “But don’t worry. I am sure they will be fine. They are strong wolves, aren’t they? They will be just alright on the rogue’s land.”
“No, you don’t understand,” Elena cried. “Wolves can’t live alone. We need our pack, our peers. The rogue land is the land of death. I learned it in geography class. There is no food, no water. My parents will die there.”
“That’s nonsense,” Bella stroked her hair. “I’ve been there twice. Rogues’ lives are as fine as you are. The weather there isn’t good, and there isn’t much water and plants. But that’s all. Rogues I saw there were pretty happy with their lives. I am sure your parents will be alright.”
Elena felt confused. She wasn’t sure if that was a lie.
“But the book, the geography class, the teachers, they told us no one can live in the rogue’s land,” she said.
Bella smiled, she then took out her phone and pulled out some pictures.
“I took these one year ago when the rogues got their new Alpha,” she said. “I accompanied Lennie there to send gifts to him. I heard he grew up with humans, but…”
“He is a hottie, isn’t he?” Aurora chuckled. “I remembered Lennie had a huge crush on him.”
“He refused her for his mate, so,” Bella shrugged her shoulders and then showed the picture to Elena. Elena then saw a side profile picture of a handsome young man sitting at the bar. He had a head of dark hair, looked about 21 or 22 years old, much younger than Elena had imagined.
The picture was taken from a far distance. The man’s features were kind of vague. Elena couldn’t tell what he really looked like. But weirdly, she felt that face familiar. Nyla had the same feeling. She whined in her head for no reason.
“He looks just like your king, doesn’t he?” Aurora pointed out, “When your king first showed up in that club, we thought he was his twin brother, but…No. He is just a kid compared to the rogue Alpha and…” she giggled this time.
Elena was totally confused, “And what?”
Bella cast a blamed glance at Aurora. Aurora shrugged her shoulders, “What? We both knew it was true. Lennie only agreed to marry the wolf king because he looks just like-”
“Enough talk!” Suddenly, a harsh voice cut them off. And it was Ashely standing under the stage scowling at them. “We don’t connect with wolves, don’t you remember? We are enemies, under any circumstances.”
Aurora stuck her tongue out to make a face, and then stood up and left. Bella patted Elena's shoulder, “Anyway, my point is, rogues’ lives were just fine under the lead of their new Alpha. Your parents are competent wolves, aren’t they? Trust me, he will treat them fairly. He is a great leader. Even our Dragon King appreciates him a lot. You stay strong. Someday you will reunite.”
She then pulled Elena’s arm, suggesting she stand up.
Elena followed her and walked out of the room in that ugly maid's uniform like a soulless doll.
Her parents’ unexpected leave was such a huge shock. She didn’t know what to do now.
“Isn’t it obvious, L?” Suddenly, Nyla spoke in her head. “Cory has made the choice for us. Now we are going to the rogue’s land.”
