Chapter 17: She hadn’t traveled far before she spotted Doyle with his back to the group, chin in his chest, Helena assumed pouting. There were times her heart broke for the man she knew she couldn’t have, and other times she wanted to kick him in the head repeatedly. He could be such a pain. She stopped five paces away and said, “I’m glad you didn’t go too far. We know it can be dangerous out here.” She tried a joke, “I would hate to have to save you once again.” He didn’t bite, only lifted his head and stared out into the forest. “Where did this all go so wrong?” The words shocked her.
