CHAPTER 4 ETHAN CROSS

I woke up inside the white room. My head still hurts and I'm still a little dizzy. When my vision cleared, I saw the unfamiliar place to me. I looked around; I did not see any of my colleagues. I looked at the things that were attached to my body. What are these things? “Hi, you’re awake?” A woman entered the room. “How are you feeling?” She asked me again. “We saw you on the side of the falls lying on the rock and unconscious so we rushed you here to the hospital.” The woman told me.

“What is your name?” She asked me. I do not answer her because I do not want her to know who I am and where I came from. She turned her gaze to my arm and my face. “Your wound healed quickly.” She would have touched my cheek, but I push her hand immediately. “Don't worry; you are safe here in the hospital. I'll come back to you later when you're ready to talk to me. Okay? For now, rest first. ” She told me.

The woman came out of the room then I could breathe properly. “This is a building from the human world.” I whispered to myself. I stood up on my bed, removing the objects attached to my body. I peeked through the door and saw different faces of people. I went out the door to see more around. I did not feel any pain because my wound healed immediately. I walked around the building and looked at the different rooms.

I got to an unfamiliar room; I went in here and saw the babies in different beds. I could see them sleeping peacefully; I went to a bed and looked at the baby inside. They will all be beautiful. It would have taken me a few more hours to stay, but someone shouted at me. “What are you doing here?” He asked me. I was immediately confused and then I left the room immediately. When I came out of the room, the woman who asked me earlier saw me.

“Mister! Go back to your room.” She told me. She approached me and I immediately ran so she could not reach me. She called the guards to chase me, I ran inside the building and found the door out. I saw the guards chasing me, but he could not catch up with me, until I reached the ground floor of the building and saw a door coming out.

I immediately ran fast to get out. The guards saw me, so I ran quickly away from the building, I was almost hit by a moving vehicle, and fortunately I was able to avoid it immediately. I was a little out of breath and very hungry. Everyone was looking at me and saying I was going back to the hospital. “Hospital.” I whispered to myself. “Hospital is the name of the building in their city.” My stomach is boiling with extreme hunger.

I found a food cart not far away. It was noon and my stomach was still empty. I approached the food cart to get some food. “Burger! Burger! ” The man shouted inside the food cart. The burger is the name of the food he sells. I inhaled the smell of the food and it looked delicious. When I confronted the man at the food cart he asked me. “Will you buy?” He asked. I thought of what my father had taught me that what we need to eat in the human world we need is money to buy.

“I have no money, can I ask for a little food?” I asked him. “I'm so hungry.” I added. The man looked at me and seemed to feel sorry for me. He prepared me a large size burger and water, at once he handed it to me. When he handed it to me, I immediately ate it. I can't explain, but the burger is so delicious. I immediately ran out of food and drank water; I thanked the man then left. To this day many people still look at me on the road.

I need to change the clothes I am wearing. As I walked down the street, I saw a variety of clothes hanging outside the house. I went to it and took the clothes. Maybe now they won't look at me anymore because the clothes I wore are normal. I walked down the street again, but it was strange because people around me were still looking at me. Why? What do I have in myself? They all laughed at me. Others point out the small rectangle object to me and laugh.

A man approached me and tapped my back. “Bro? What are you wearing? Are you a man?” He asked me. I looked carefully at what I was wearing. “What’s wrong?” I asked the man. “Look at what you are wearing, white crop top shirt and black short.” He told me. I looked at what the man and woman were wearing. I got the difference of it. In the world of people there are different kinds of clothes. There are more different from women and men. As for us, there is no dress called. I suddenly remembered that I had no clothes when I confronted the little girl I’ve met in the forest. I suddenly felt ashamed.

I ran and looked for clothes hanging outside until I saw; I picked up a jacket and pants. I also looked around at what else people were wearing. I saw them wearing footwear. He looks like a foot cover. So I looked for something they were wearing. I saw a rectangular woods outside where there was more foot cover. I approached it, when I saw what was written on the top of the wood. “Leave your shoes here.” It says so.

“Shoes.” This is the name of the foot cover. I walked down the street and everything was normal. No one is looking at me and they are not laughing at me anymore. I can say that the village I saw in my home looks old far away from this city. As I walked, I saw signs placed on the side of the buildings. “Town.” It turned out to be a town. I can't believe what I see. There are more stuff I see around.

I was happy with what I saw until I stopped at a house, I looked at it, the design of the house was different, the size and the beauty. As I was looking at it, a man approached me and handed me a paper. “Are you Mr. Ethan Cohen?” He asked me. “Yeah, I am Ethan…” Before I could say my full name, he gave me a paper. “Congratulations! You have passed your college entrance exam, you are a scholar and you do not have to pay anything inside the school, in this letter your dorm number is included. There, you will stay temporarily while studying. Again, congratulations Ethan!” Then the man left.

“College? Education?” These are the words I read in the letter. Fortunately, I can read, my father taught me. When I thought about my family, I was worried, are they looking for me? I don't know, but I don't want to go back to our place, I'm grown up and I can handle myself. I continued my reading. When I found the address of the alleged school, I immediately went there.

For me, this is an opportunity for me to experience what a person’s life really is; I want to know what makes a person different from our werewolves. I will not waste this opportunity. I need to learn their lifestyle. I walked away from the house and went into the crowd. I asked the question which way to go to the school address. Many people know this, but they just point the way with their hands and they do not go with me.

Until I got lost on the road, because I could not really find the school, but I did not give up. I stood up in my seat, until a woman saw me catch my attention. Her hair is beautiful; it is brown and long wavy. I chose to ask her. “Can I ask a question?” I said to the woman. “Yes?” She turned her attention to me. “Can you accompany me to this address?” I showed her the paper I was holding.

I was surprised when she shouted loudly. “Wow! Congratulation! You passed too!” I was surprised when she suddenly hugged me tightly. “Oh, I'm sorry.” She told me. She read the paper I gave her. “Okay, so you are in your first year of college like me. Oh my gosh! Our room is next to each other.” The woman told me. “Come with me, I will also go to school to find my dorm, our dorm is next to each other, so you also have someone with you. Hi, I am Joanna.” She reached out her hand to me, but I ignored it.

“Hello? My hand is numb. Shake hands?” She told me. I don't know what she wants to do. Until she took my hand and shook hands with me. “So your name is Ethan Cohen.” She told me. This is not my real name. I am Ethan Cross, but because I still want to stay in the world of people, yes, this is my name. “Yes, I am Ethan Cohen.” I felt guilty because I stole someone's identity. The woman looked behind me and raised her two eyebrows. “You don't have any belongings?” She told me. “No, I just came here in the world of people, oh no. I mean is, I'm just new here in this place. I have no belongings because I am in a hurry to leave my town.” I told her. I took a deep breath so that she would not notice that I was lying.

“Do you have money?” She asked me. I did not answer and I looked down. “Okay, you don't have anything. You are lucky and I met you. Let's go! Let’s go shopping! Accompany me! All expenses are mine!” Joanna said. She pulled my hand and we went inside the mall she says. When I got in here, I noticed a lot of people.

We went inside the clothing store and chose clothes. “Don't be shy, I will answer all the expenses, just choose there.” She told me again. I was lucky and I met her. I saw in her personality that she was a contented and kind person. I got a men's dress and a bag that I would use at school, because she said I would need it when class started. Then we bought a school supply because she said it was what I would use to write.

After we bought, we went out in the mall and took a ride on what they called a grab. We went down to a big building they called a school. I saw how many things did Joanna’s bought, so I carried it. “Can you do all that?” Joanna asked me. I think not everything we buy is really heavy. I carried three large boxes containing food and school supplies and four large bags containing our clothes.
