Chapter 3

I could smell dirt and dew and no wonder as it looks like a graveyard and I have no idea how I got here and my phone is nowhere to be found and I walked around the graveyard panicking looking for my phone… ok calm down, relax and walk to the nearest garage or place and ask for a phone, you know dads number of by heart so just relax and find out where I am, dad will know what to do then walking out of the graveyard not knowing which side to go made me more terrified so I played eenie meenie miny moe, which way should I go, right left right left, eenie meenie miny moe and went left.

I have been walking for so long and my dry throat was not helping, I’m so thirsty and I just wanted to rest when I saw what looked like a deserted garage and restaurant but I was hoping there would be someone there to help me so I took whatever energy I had left and walked the distance to the garage but it was as I thought, deserted with no one in sight to help so I went looking through the windows but nothing, although if I break in then police will come as someone owns this building but it seems like there are no alarms so I just sat inside for a rest before I fainted, I felt so weak because I had nothing to eat or drink from the time I awoke in the graveyard... but I should not feel so weak, what happened to me?

I took a look through the restaurant and in the back, the fridges were still working so I went to see what there was to drink as I was so thirsty my throat burnt and saw a few cold drinks and water so I had one and looked around for packets and carried a few more plus I saw chips so I took those as well but most was expiring so they could not have gone for long so I could only carry a hand full and left for a long walk.

It was getting dark when finally, a settlement came to view but the people looked dangerous with guys carrying knives and guns so it’s better not to go to them for help. Walking around the settlement which was luckily small to get away and was on my way to the next when it turned dark and I’ve never been afraid of the dark, I loved it but I don’t want to stay near this settlement so there was no time to relax so I kept on walking and eating chips until it was too dark to walk anymore so I looked for a place to sleep, I have not seen any cars go by but I did not want to chance it, so close to the road is the best place to sleep but it's out in the open and how am I to sleep on the floor? Sigh my bones are going to be screaming tomorrow, not like it isn’t now.

A loud noise woke me, it was then I noticed it was a car and I immediately jumped up or tried to but my bones and muscles were screaming but I just had to get the guy driving the truck coming this way so I screamed and waved my hand trying to get the guys attention, the truck slowed down and then thankfully stopped and I ran up to the passenger side.

“hi there, erm could you help me, I need to get to Durban” “love you are a far way from Durban I am afraid, this is Pietermaritzburg and I cannot drive you that far” “oh well then can you drop me off at the nearest town? Or lend me a phone?” “not a problem, hop in”

I was so excited that I did not see the guys leering looks or the warning signs of a pediphile. I called my dad but he did not answer so I left a message saying that I don’t know how I got here but I am in Pietermaritzburg and will call him when I am at the nearest city. I gave the driver the cell and opened the window and saw we were headed past a town

“I think we just past a town” “oh you won’t want to go there, it is full of dangerous people” “oh well thanks for taking my safety into account” I didn’t even think I could be in danger and at the mercy of whoever drove me but know that I think of it, aren’t truckers mostly always the bad guys in movies? s**t, I need to get away from him, but he did help me out while others might of just drove on... I’m being too harsh by listening to the movies!

Another town was coming up and there were a lot of cars around so to be safe, I asked the driver to leave me here, he said sure but first he needs to make a little stop before we go and alarms started going off in my head when we pulled up in a deserted parking lot and I showed him a curious face when I knew what was coming and trying to think of a way out, should have listened to the movies and got out.

He grinned at me “I did you a huge favour, two actually so we are here so you can give me my two payments” “I am sorry but I do not have money with me” “that’s alright, all you need to do…” I never let him finish, I was thirsty again and next thing I knew was drinking a sweet but bitter nectar as I bit him on his neck and I could not pull away, so thirsty… when I was done, I was shocked and scared at what I have done and there was blood everywhere, on the guy and his truck, on me… so I could not go to the town but I could not stay here in blood, clothes are only going to be in town though. I saw clothing on the railing for sale somewhere at the edge of town so I sneaked in and grabbed a sundress and ran, I wiped the blood with my old clothes and changed into the dress that reached my ankles and thought I looked ridicules but I needed to get out of here so what I looked like was not my biggest problem right now.

I walked through town with wet sandals and asked people if I could borrow a phone but no one even tried to help so I went into stores but nothing so I went to a restaurant and sat down, I had found a lot of cash in the truck so I bought a coffee and scrambled eggs and toast.
