Tammy grew and fed her babies. Sometimes she had vivid and clear memories of another life. These flashes didn’t last long. It wasn’t like she would take a stroll down memory lane when these flashes came, either. She didn’t understand her world in the same way as before, although in the midst of one of the vivid memories, she knew that it was her life in the memory, something she had experienced when she was different. The bent man came to visit and sometimes stayed nearby. Tammy always watched him warily. He appeared out of the shadows, walked toward Tammy, and laughed his crooked laugh as he looked up at her. “Look at how much you’ve grown! You’re doing wonderfully.” He patted Tammy’s bark and smiled. “The babies are almost ready to be born. Just a few more days.” Tammy didn’t like it
