Chapter 8: Face to face with Wendy

When Diane got home she cursed herself for not acting quickly enough to catch Wendy before the vans she saw moved in. She was filled with anger, anger because Thomas never told her he was with Wendy.
As she sat down on the sitting room sofa, she was beginning to regret every attempt she had made to get Thomas to like her enough to want to date her.
She felt she now knew the real Thomas. This to her meant even if they were to date, he wouldn't be sincere to her. Fed up and frustrated about the whole investigation not going in the way it was supposed to go, she decided she had had enough of him.
She didn't want to work along side him anymore. It got her thinking, a transfer would be her best option. Deep in thought about the whole situation, it took her some time to realize her phone was ringing. She looked at the caller on the display and found to her surprise that it was Thomas calling.
"Thomas?" She was shocked to hear his voice
"Hey Diane, I need you to come over to the office;"
"What?"
"Yeah, come right away I got something for you;"
"And what is it you have?
"Someone would like to speak to a female Police officer and I thought you'd be interested." Thomas cut the call leaving Diane trying to figure out who that person was.
When she got to the station Thomas went to meet her at the main entrance. They walked towards the interrogation room.
"Hey" he said
"What is it you have that you can't tell me over the phone?" She asked looking at him suspiciously.
It's not the kind you can talk about on the phone."
"Oh, just as you couldn't talk about the woman you were sleeping with?" Thomas stopped and looked sharply at her.
"Is that why I asked you to come?"
"You've not been sincere to me. I shouldn't have come at all." They had approached the interrogation room and stood outside looking through the glass. When Diane saw Wendy she was shocked.
"Is that who I'm thinking she is?" she asked Thomas
"That's Wendy Harvey herself." Diane stared at the beauty that was being accused of murder and then stared at Thomas
"Quite a beauty she is. Now I know why you told me to lower my voice,"
"Diane?" Thomas felt uneasy.
"So how was she?" she asked as she stared at him. Thomas looked at Diane and then lowered his head and whipsered in here ears.
"Oh that? Very stimulating and exciting indeed." he said grinning. Diane looked at him sternly.
"But now it's your turn to find out." Diane laughed when Thomas said that to her.
"What? Are you kidding me? No way!"
"Not in that sense I mean." Diane shook her head as she went to open the door of the interrogation room. When she entered the room and closed the door, she stood for a moment at the door and observed Wendy. Finally she found herself face to face with Wendy.
"Wendy Harvey," She called out as she walked slowly towards her. Wendy looked up at Diane and gave out a faint smile. Diane took her seat opposite Wendy and both women stared defiantly at each other.
"It must be difficult working alongside the man you love;" Wendy said
"And it must be difficult finding yourself here, brought by the same man of course." replied back Diane. The smile on Wendy's face suddenly disappeared and was instantly replaced by a dry harsh look.
"I'm sure you were thinking, this is it , this is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with." Diane continued.
"You want me to believe working alongside him you has made you better than me?" Wendy asked. Diane shook her head.
"No. But with your kind of record, I would have given up hoping," Diane then went on to opened the file that was brought to her and started to mention to Wendy some of the crimes she had committed. Wendy didn't say a word.
"Now we come to your most recent exploit." Wendy looked at Diane who had a bit of difficulty figuring out how to mention the Capri murder. It wasn't on the list but she felt she could get some information from Wendy.
"Alonso Capri. Why did you murder him?" Diane asked. Wendy looked at Diane terribly surprised she was being asked that question.
"Alonso Capri? And who is he?"
