Diane had just got home and had removed her clothes and sat down on the sofa in the sitting room when Thomas's text message arrived. She was beginning to regret working alongside him. She wanted it because she had fallen in love with him in the hope that he would give her the attention she needed.
But Thomas didn't even make any move or look at her in the way she wanted.
While she was comfortable with his attitude hoping with time he would take notice, she found his attraction for Wendy too obvious.
This she didn't like. It brought feelings of disgust for him such that she was beginning to feel he wasn't fit to carry on the investigation with her.
She carried her phone and read the message;
'Capri is not on the list, why?'
How do I know why he's not on the list? she asked herself. While she found herself annoyed with him, she was shocked. If Capri wasn't on the list then why was Wendy being investigated?
She put the phone down and sighed heavily. Her thoughts went to the meeting she had with Thomas at his house. Someone was inside the house, who was it? This thought kept bugging her until she fell asleep on the sofa.
She woke up in the morning to the sound of her doorbell ringing. She got up and peeped out of the window. It was Thomas. She had nothing on except her panty and bra. She didn't mind and went to open the door for him.
"What brings you here this morning. She wasn't good enough for you?" she asked walking away from him.
"Hey, Diane did you get my message?"
"What message?" she asked turning around so he could see her. Thomas stared dumbfounded at her appearance. He hadn't taken notice of how good looking she was. but now he saw it.
"Ehm..um..." he cleared his throat several times and gulped, " I couldn't find Capri on the list."
"So what do you want me to do?" she asked with arms folded.
"You brought the file so you should know something about it."
"I only got you the files," she said.
"Diane, I'm not a baby. You bring a file to me and you haven't looked through it?" Diane looked away from him. She had seen the content but never really looked deeply.
"Okay, I looked through it," she said turning and facing him, "but briefly."
"Fine so you have some idea why Capri is not on the list don't you?"
"Whoa, wait lover boy. Before you fight for your criminal dream girl let's get one thing clear..."
"Diane, I only want the truth that's all."
"Well, the truth is you're in love and you're not thinking straight," Thomas laughed.
"Diane this is an investigation. There's no love here. "
"Oh really?" Thomas nodded," Since the first day you saw her picture, you can't take her off your mind can you?" Thomas looked at her in bewilderment.
"Diane, I'm not going to waste my time listening to you," he was heading for the front door. Diane followed behind and watched as he opened it and went out banging the door as he left.
Diane was filled with anger. She felt she wasn't receiving the cooperation she needed from Thomas. She had to do something. She got on the phone and dialed a number.
"Hello officer Rodrigo, how may I help you?" came the voice.
"I'm reporting officer Waite," she started
"Any reason why?" asked the voice.
"The Capri murder investigation," she replied
"What about it?"
"Officer Waite is struggling with his emotions"
"is it love?"
"Wendy Harvey, one of the suspects in the murder."
"Officer Rodrigo, you believe his performance will be affected?"
"I find him untrustworthy in his attitude and judgment."
"Fine, we may shift him to another case if we find this to be so. Would you be comfortable with that?" replied the voice. There was silence. Diane refused to answer the question as she didn't want that to happen.
"Officer Rodrigo?" She cut the call and rested her back against the wall beside the front door. She closed her eyes. Anything that would take Thomas away from her sight would be like punishment to her. And she didn't want that. Now she didn't know what to do.
