Chapter 6: The Discovery

655 Words
Thomas has just left Diane's house and decided to stop at a nearby cafe.He had told Wendy he was going out jogging so she wouldn't worry about him leaving her all alone in the house. As he left she went to wash and put the bedroom in order being careful not to touch anything. She went into the sitting room and sat down. With nothing to do, she went into the kitchen and prepared herself a cup of coffee. When she came into the sitting room she started looking around. The portrait hanging on the wall attracted her attention. It was the photo of a young girl holding a sunflower in her hand. She moved forward and lightly touched the portrait. The portrait moved like she had pushed it. Surprised, she moved closer to see why it had moved. Looking at the edges she found an opening. Curious to know what was behind the portrait, she swung it open and found a safe. Thomas hadn't given much thought to closing the safe properly as he was so absorbed with the question of Capri's name not appearing on the list. Wendy found the safe slightly open and fully opened it. She found a file with her name on it. She took the file and opened it and found pictures of her and her criminal records. Her heart started to beat fast as she looked at the long list of crimes she had committed. She felt weak at seeing so much information on her. Thomas was collecting information on her and she wasn't aware of it. She had thought Thomas was the love of her life, but now she doubted it. She didn't know who he was or what he was doing with her records. Weakened and disappointed, she kept the file back and closed the safe and pushed the portrait to cover the safe. Who was Thomas and why didn't she know about him? She kept pondering the question over in her mind. She became restless and felt the house wasn't safe for her to stay anymore. Her one thought was to leave immediately as she didn't know if his going out would mean he was going to bring in the police to arrest her. As if pushed by instinct, she went into the bedroom and started to arrange her bag. Then the front door open. Thomas had come back. "Hey, Wendy? I'm home," he shouted. Wendy kept an eye on the door to see if he was alone. When she saw that he was all alone she came out of the bedroom and put up a warm welcome smile. "Thomas, back already?" she asked as they exchanged kisses. "Well, I didn't go far, just around the corner. You?" "I got up and was able to make myself a cup of coffee." She said "I'm sure you must be hungry," Thomas gripped her by the waist and held her close to him. He wanted to kiss her but thoughts of the file made her avoid his urge. "Tom I think I am hungry what are we going to eat?" "Well I want a good kiss first and then we'll go around the corner and get something to eat." he kept moving his lips forward trying to lock kisses with her but she again avoided it. "Look we can have all this fun once I get my stomach filled." she acted as if she was imploring him. Thomas took a good look at her and smiled. "Sure about what you just said?" he asked her "I'm sure." she smiled back. He removed his hands from her waist. "Okay, I'll just go and change. " He left her and went into the bathroom. Wendy sighed and closed her eyes. She had to think of a way to leave without making him feel suspicious. But she had no idea how she was going to do that. She was terribly worried.
