6. THANK YOU GODDESS

-KAILEE-

“I have headaches. I’ve had them since I became a teenager but they’ve been worse the last year” I told Luke. I wasn’t ready to tell him any more than that right now. Luke nodded his head. “Well, it’s been a long night and I’m sure you’re tired. Can I show you to your room for the evening?” “Yes, please,” I said as we walked out of the office and walked up another two floors.

“This is the Alpha floor. Until now, I haven’t shared it with anyone since I took over as Alpha”, he explained. “There’s a guest room here where you can stay for now.” The room was as big as some of the houses I’ve stayed in. There was a large king-sized bed against the wall and a couch with a coffee table on the other wall. The bathroom was the size of the room I shared with Meghan, with a bathtub and a separate shower with two shower heads. The place was so clean it didn’t look like anyone had used it before.

The closet was big enough to walk into and leap into. I couldn’t believe I’d be staying here. “If you’ll follow me,” Luke said, and we walked out of the room and down the hall. We entered the door at the end of the hall. It had to be Luke’s room, I could smell him all over it. “Once you’re comfortable, you’ll move into our room with me,” Luke said, handing me a t-shirt. “I know you don’t have any clothes here so you can wear my shirt to sleep in and we’ll go get your things in the morning.”

Luke escorted me back to the guest room. I thanked him and closed the door. The bed looked so comfortable but the bathtub was calling my name. I ran a bath as hot as I could and added a little bit of the bath salts and bubbles that were there. I took my clothes off and climbed into the tub. I sat down and the water rose above my stomach. The bubbles were covering me as I laid my head back, relaxing and closing my eyes. I had only seen this in movies before and here I was soaking in a hot bubble bath. I tried to clear my head but my headache had gotten worse since leaving Luke.

After a while, I drained the tub and grabbed a towel. It was as soft as a blanket. I put Luke’s t-shirt on and slipped into bed. I couldn’t fall asleep, my head was the worst it had ever been pounding non-stop. I tried everything I could but without my medicine I was afraid I couldn’t stop it. I thought about the evening and all that had happened and all of a sudden a thought came to my mind.

I could tell it was more than just headaches, but she needed to tell me in her own time. It was getting late so I showed Kailee to the guest room and then showed her ours. I gave her my favorite shirt to sleep in and walked her back to the guest room. She shut the door and I leaned my back against the wall, taking a deep breath in to smell the last of her scent she left behind. We had a lot to do tomorrow and we needed to get some sleep.

I took a hot shower and climbed into bed. I lay awake with my eyes open wide, they weren’t anywhere near closing. How could I sleep with my mate so close? I couldn’t. “Go check on her”, Zane urged. “She’s sleeping”. I pushed back. I took out my laptop and started working on things I had lined up for tomorrow.

There was a knock at my door and I stood to get it. Her scent filled my nose as I opened the door. Kailee stood there with just my t-shirt on. Zane wanted me to lift her off her feet and kiss her right there in the doorway and as much as I wanted to, I held my composure. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?” I asked. “It’s my head. It’s gotten a lot worse and” she hesitated “and whenever you were touching me today, my headache seemed to lessen.” “SHE WANTS US TO TOUCH HER!” Zane yelled in my head. I pushed him back and stepped aside for Kailee to come in.

She walked into the room rubbing her temples again and I put my arm around her and lead her to the bed. “Kailee, would you like to lay with me? I promise to respect you. I’m sure it will help us both get some sleep”, I said. She nodded and climbed into my bed. Thank you goddess I could not have asked to end this night any better. I slid in next to her and she laid her head on my chest. It didn’t take but a few moments to hear her breathing turn rhythmic and I knew she was out. I took a few more breaths of her scent and sleep overcame me as well.
