Chapter 1
Cambridge, UK. Kelson hotel’s event hall. It was the freshers welcome party. Aria, a belle possessing sunflower blonde hair and whose dazzling blue eyes clear as the azure sky, felt amazed as she looked around the beautifully decorated venue which was not too far from the institution itself and easy to access. “Look at that guy. Such a dish!” Her best friend, Laila Jenkins pointed out to her and she looked in the direction her friend was pointing to. She could only see the side profile of a tall young man wearing glasses, dressed in a fine suit. “Yeah, I can see him. What about him?” Aria threw a questioning glance at her excited friend. “You don’t know him? Oh I forgot, you don’t pay any attention to boys,” Laila chuckled. Aria scoffed, “Why should I? Boys are annoying,” “Not all,” her friend disputed and Aria rolled her eyes, “Oh come on, Aria. Okay, admitted some boys deserve to be hanged. But there’s some select few who know how to treat a woman like a lady,” Laila preached. “Great,” Aria said with a disinterested tone, “Good luck finding that kind of guy. For me, relationships are troublesome. Besides, I came here to study and become somebody useful in life. I have big dreams I need to accomplish. I can’t afford to be distracted by some boy,” “Oh dear. Alright, I can’t ever convince you. Anyway, let’s forget about that topic. We’re here to have fun tonight. We deserve this at least for the stress they’ll put us through before prom which is many years away,” Laila, whose green eyes were the shade of the forest, sighed, fiddling with her curls. “Not that many years,” Aria corrected. “I really want to sit at home and watch drama and cry with hankies as couples kiss,” “Those couples aren’t real. They’re just acting,” Aria pointed out. “Wait, how did we even become friends again?” Laila asked, furrowing her eyebrows, feigning puzzlement. “Our fate as best buddies was sealed in the heavens, like you said,” Aria responded and the other giggled. “Aria, one day, you’ll get to appreciate drama as much as I do,” “Yeah,” Aria shrugged, nonchalance in her eyes, “I’m pretty sure horror movies would be my thing.” “You know, instead of this, why don’t we...” Laila took two glasses of wine from a tray held by a waiter passing by, “...drink before the event starts fully. In case the speech is boring, we can at least have something sweet to cheer us up before the music commences,” “I’m not that good with alcohol,” Aria reminded her friend. “Of course, I know that. I heard that non-alcoholic drinks were what would be served at this party. So you have no worries. Here’s yours, baby girl,” Laila handed her friend one of the glasses and the latter thanked her before having a sip. Nodding, Aria appraised, “It’s not bad. No alcohol, and not too sweet.” “Don’t pretend to be some wine master,” Laila teased as she drank from her own wine glass. “Listen up, students!” a melodious female voice was soon heard, drawing everyone’s attention. On the stage, a plump, beautiful woman was standing, holding a mic in her hand, a rather weird smile plastered on her face. “Uhm, Laila, tell me what they said when I return. I feel a little uneasy. Maybe I should go out for some fresh air or something,” “Let me accompany you,” Laila offered. With a timorous titter, Aria raised her hand to preclude her bestie, “Stay here. I promise I’ll be back in no time.” “Okay. Call me, if you want to go home okay?” “You worry too much, Laila,” With that, Aria walked out of the venue, holding her yellow purse tight. As soon as she was out, she started to hold the wall for support. “Bullshit non-alcoholic wine! The one in charge must have disobeyed orders. Laila can hold her drink anyway. Thankfully, I only took a sip...” she couldn’t even see where she was going properly. “Why do I feel so... hot... I need ice...” Before she knew it, she passed out. Meanwhile, in the venue, Laila looked towards the entrance of the venue, in her eyes a meld of guilt and anxiety. “I’m sorry, bestie.” She muttered ruefully before paying attention to the words being said by the squat woman on stage. *** The next morning. Aria’s eyes slowly peeled open, a headache welcoming her as she tried to sit up, causing her to clutch her head. “Gosh! What happened last night? And... ouch!” not only did she feel a headache, there was also an ache down there. Wait... soreness down there?! With newfound strength, she took off the blanket and her eyes widened. On the bed was... blood! Her blood! She was no longer a virgin? H-how did this happen? Her eyes darted to and fro, frantically scanning the hotel room, but nothing in sight could help her understand why she was in this situation. ‘Maybe I’m dreaming?” she decided to pinch herself and the resulting pain made her cry out in discomfort. So it was real. She was deflowered... but by who? How did she end up in this room? She tried hard to recall, ignoring the headache. She had to remember who did this to her and mercilessly left her here to sort the rest things out herself. But try as she did, the only thing she recalled was passing out while feeling hot. Not just that, she faintly seemed to have remembered an unknown young man atop her. Everything was hazy. She didn’t recall his face nor did she recognize his voice. “Arrgh!” she yanked her hair in anger and frustration. “How could you have been so stupid, Aria Cromwell? How could you?” she ruthlessly slapped and berated herself, streams of tears cascading down her face. The image of an innocent, virgin daughter of the Cromwell family was ruthlessly shattered by an unknown stranger! “Heavens, why me?” she cried out of pain of heart. ... Minutes later, she exited the hotel room and slowly made her way out of the hotel. That stranger last night was quite powerful during the ‘session’ last night, she was having some problems walking straight. But she didn’t want to draw suspicious eyes towards her, so she pretended to be fine, even though on the inside she was close to crying. Flagging down a taxi, she got in, heading straight for her apartment that was close to the college. Now that she was seated, tears flooded her eyes as the reminder of her loss of innocence came to haunt her again. At that moment, her phone started ringing and she quickly answered the call. It was Laila, her bestie. “Hey, girl. Where were you last night? Did you go home without telling me?” Layla queried. “I looked all over for you but didn’t find you,” Aria let out a sigh, “I guess I did. I’m sorry. We’ll talk later,” she said with a hoarse voice. “Are you alright?” “Yeah, I just have a little fever and I hit my foot just now too,” Aria lied, a look of guilt on her face. She couldn’t tell Laila she got deflowered by some unknown guy last night. From the hazy body outline that she recalled, he was definitely a student of the school but who he was she couldn’t recall. “Oh, dear. I’m coming to see you right away,” Laila’s voice had a tone of anxiousness. “No need. I’m away for now. I’ll inform you once I get back. How was the party yesterday?” “Oh, it was a blast! Did you know...”
