Are You Poisoned

Ember's Pov "Move!" A yell came suddenly forcing me to move aside. Even though I was scared to death, the voice brought me back to my senses and I managed to move out of the way just before the animal could get to me. Next, a figure flashed before me and sent the animals flying with a punch. Looking closely at the figure, I realized it was Damian. He was probably the one who had yelled just now. "Thanks," I muttered under my breath. "And why are you thanking me? Didn't I ask you to stay back at the cottage?" Damian frowned as he turned to glare at me. The look on his face showed that he was angry, the aura he was emitting made me shudder subconsciously. Even though I hadn't known him for long, I could tell that he was annoyed with me. "I'm sorry," I muttered, my head dropping low as I felt rather guilty. "Whatever," Damian grunted as he turned around to face the animal which was approaching us at full speed probably for revenge. I couldn't help but frown upon seeing the animal, it was one I had never seen before. It looked like a horse, but it was bigger than a horse, besides, it had two wide-spread horns on its head which looked sharp. I watched nervously as Damian rushed forward to meet with the animal head and I couldn't help but feel rather guilty. If I had stayed back at the cottage, this wouldn't have happened. What if the animal killed him or got him injured? Many possibilities ran through my mind and I couldn't help but feel guilty as I watched Damian ready himself to meet the attack head-on. "Bang!" The heavy hitting of something against a tree brought me back to my senses coupled with an unfamiliar grunt. Looking up, I saw that Damian had sent the animal flying again with just a punch. I couldn't help but sigh in relief seeing this, it was alright. Damian was powerful and he should be able to defeat the animal. Before I could say anything, Damain rushed towards the animal, but before he got to the animal, it had already stood up and soon the two engaged in a fierce brawl. Even though it didn't look like a brawl to me as it was more of Damian sending the animal flying with a single punch each time it stood up, the animal still managed to injure Damian as if it was surprisingly agile even with its size. After about five minutes, the animal was covered in blood due to the slashing it received from Damian's claws. Besides, I could see the exhaustion on Damian's face and I couldn't help but frown. Thud! Suddenly, the animal fell to the floor with a loud thud. Immediately Damien took out a small knife and slaughtered the animal right on the spot as I watched. Next, he picked up the huge animal and placed it on his shoulder before turning around to face me. "Let's go!" He said, his voice cold which sent shivers down my spine. "Why don't you rest, the animal is heavy and you just finished fighting it!" I bit my lips as I muttered slowly. "And why do you care?" Damian replied coldly. I couldn't help but sigh hearing his reply, it was still obvious that he was mad at me. Even though I didn't know why he was so angry, I could tell it was because he cared about my safety, besides I wasn't a fool. I could tell that he had expended a lot of energy while fighting the animal and was probably tired. Even though it had seemed like he had the upper hand during the fight, it looked like he was struggling against something while he was fighting, or else he wouldn't have received some minor injuries from the animal. "But..." "You can stay if you're tired." Damian cut me off coldly as he walked away. Having no other choice, I followed him. Even though I was in pain as I walked, I kept it to myself and didn't dare to grunt afraid I'll anger Damian even more. After walking for about ten minutes, I couldn't take it anymore, the pain in my body was quite unbearable and I was struggling to keep my consciousness. The more I walked, the more I felt that I couldn't hold on any longer, even though I was trying my best, I was already at my limit and was going to break. Suddenly I stumbled on a stone because I was weak and barely keeping consciousness. I fell fist-face to the floor. Thud! Something heavy suddenly dropped to the floor right before I could fall and all of a sudden, felt a strong arm supporting me which prevented me from falling. "You sure are stubborn," Damian, who had just caught me, frowned as he looked at me. "Do you think you'll be able to outrun a moose even if you're healthy?" He continued as he continued to stare at me. "You could have died, if I hadn't been nearby." Damain shook his head as he looked away. "Anyways, let's head back to the cottage." Before I could say anything, Damian carried me and put me on his shoulder which was blood free as the other was stained with the moose's blood. Bending down slightly, he picked up the moose he had just dropped and draped it over his shoulder making me look in awe as I wondered how strong he was for him to be able to do that. After about ten minutes, we approached the cottage, making me sigh in relief as I was feeling rather uncomfortable. Getting to the cottage, Damian threw the animal to the floor with a thud and dropped me off gently. I could see the fatigue on his face and knew he was tired. "Aren't you going to get some rest?" I frowned seeing that he was getting ready to skin the animal. "Don't worry I'm fine." Damian smiled as he took out a knife and some other equipment to begin the work which even made me have more doubts. It seemed like his anger had disappeared. Just now, I had seen one of his arms turn black and his face was twisted in pain and yet he was saying that it was alright. "No, I don't believe." I frowned as I looked at his hands which I had seen were black. Just as I had expected, it was still black and Damian's face was still distorted. Obviously he was in pain even though he managed to hide it with a smile. "Then are you in pain?" I frowned, deciding to ask. "In pain?" Domain chuckled as he looked at me, there was still a smile on his face. "Then, why is your other arm all black, besides, you've been groaning softly since it had turned black." I frowned pointing at his arm. "Huh?" Damian froze immediately after he heard my question and he subconsciously looked at his arm. When he had put me on his shoulder, I had remained motionless which made him think I was asleep so I had heard his soft groans and couldn't help but relate it to his black arms as it was not like that when he was fighting the animal. "Tell me, why's your arm black? Did you get poisoned while fighting the animal?" I frowned as I pressed on not wanting to give up.
