A shiver shot down my spine as I followed behind Oliver, my hand wrapped with his, into the dining hall.
I saw some lawyers sitting at the end of the table and tightened my grip on his hand.
Oliver sliding a chair out for me and then taking a seat next to me. The men bowing their head slightly towards Oliver, “Mr. Kowi. Always our pleasure” he said, his smooth voice void of emotion as he opened a file.
The lawyer looking towards me the back to Oliver, “Mrs. kowi” Oliver replied looking at the lawyer that spoke to him, his voice stern.
My heart fluttered when he said that, he was claiming me.
One of the lawyers from yesterday say off to the left looked down at his files, not daring to looking towards Oliver and I, spiking my curiosity. Sneaking a glance towards Oliver to see if he had noticed, letting no emotion cross his face.
I sighed and dropped my hands into my lap, fiddling them together.
“They’ve been able to identify 11 of the bodies,” the lawyer started to say, Oliver slipping his hand into mine, giving me a soft squeeze as the lawyer finished, “we are having a hard time locating two of the bodies, which is why only 11 have been confirmed” he finished, my head snapped up to Oliver, his eyes sparking like embers, glazing over into his Carmel color so flawlessly.
“Who has not been confirmed?” He stated, his voice empty of anything he might be feeling.
The lawyer shifted, slightly uncomfortable.
“Your mother and Mr. ember.” He stated Nervously.
My eyes widen when he said my father has not been confirmed dead, shifting in my seat uncomfortably. I noticed bo standing in the corner, he eyes showing how he felt. Bewildered.
“What do you mean?” I blurted out before I could even process everything being said.
Oliver’s grip on my hand tightened as he pulled me into him.
The lawyer was clearly nervous and looked between Oliver and I, “well?” Oliver questioned when the lawyer did not answer me.
He cleared his throat before he began to explain how the plane crash was set up, that they are unsure of who did it but all ties come back to my father. My heart was racing, tears threatening to run down my face as he finished by saying Oliver’s father had gotten suspicious of my father a few years back, around the time Oliver was sent away, he couldn’t prove anything and he was of course, his most loyal business partner.
Oliver’s grip on my hand never loosened, his jaw tightened as he had to relive the truth I was just now being exposed to.
They informed me they thought my father and his mother began an affair around that time, my father unsure if he wanted to uphold the contract even though he lived 15 years as an equal to them, when it come to money and power of their international company.
I didn’t realize anything.. Oliver’s parents came over and still ran business as usual and seemed to hold their friendship with each other.
I was lost in my thoughts as they went over the autopsy reports and what was pulled from the wreckage.
My heart heavy, threatening to drop to my stomach.
“Thank you for your time Mr. Kowi.” I heard them say as our breakfast was being served, they bowed their heads towards him and left in a single line towards the front entrance.
