Chapter 5

The kids were reluctant to leave Adith, they liked him so much, Adith too loved them, he didn’t want to let them go but as it was late and they should be up early for kindergarten, Adith coaxed the kids to sleep and promised them to meet them the next day.

When the kids went to bed, Carys coaxed them to sleep and locked the door behind her, Adith was sitting on the couch in the living room and randomly changing the channels in the TV, when he saw Carys he switched off the TV and turned towards her and patted the seat next to her, Carys sat beside him, the silence was awkward , Adith broke the silence by asking “Carys tell me what happened to you after I left, I want you to be honest”

Carys looked at the handsome man with exquisite facial features, his body has become more stronger, he was more matured and carried a dominant aura, unfortunately she lost him, he was not her man anymore, Carys big grey eyes became gloomy, she bent down her head and fiddled the rings on her fingers, then she looked up at him and said “Adith, what happened to me has nothing to do with you, I already have too much on my plate, hope you don’t disturb me, by the way I heard that you are engaged, Congratulations. I am happy for you” and she smiled sadly.

Adith felt heavy in his heart, seems like he lost his sweet bubbly and carefree Carys, she looked like a beautiful diamond in museum which can only be admired from a far and cannot be touched, his heart ached on seeing how distant see was with him as if they were strangers.

He didn’t want to give up, he felt a strong bond between the kids and him, he felt that the kids were a miniature version of him but they had their mother's big grey eyes, which was his favourite.

So, he asked “Carys, don’t test my patience, tell me who is the father of the kids, it takes a few minutes for me to find out, it would be better if you tell me the truth”

Carys eyes were filled with tears, she lifted her head up and blinked to prevent it from flowing down, then she looked into Adith’s eyes and said, “it's you”.

Adith knew it was coming but still couldn’t accept the fact, he felt like he was insane, he trembled all over, his eyes were red and had difficulty in breathing.

When Carys saw Adith’s reaction she was scared, she immediately brought some cold water and made him drink, she said “ Calm down Adith, it’s okay if you are not ready to accept them as your children and don’t worry, I will not tell anyone that they are yours, they are my children , trust me, I can take care of them, I don’t need a man to support us.”

Hearing this, Adith’s felt like his larynx was blocked with apocryphal stop c**k, they were his own flesh and blood, he misunderstood Carys, he resented her when he saw her engagement news. He thought she was pregnant with the other man.

Adith looked into Carys eyes and asked “Carys, then why did you get engaged to him and didn’t tell me a word about the pregnancy?

Carys looked firmly at Adith and said, “ When my mom found out that I was pregnant, she forced me to have an abortion, but it was already past 18 weeks , both babies were almost formed, I showed my scan reports and explained my situation, moreover they are the precious gifts for me, I had no regrets when I knew that I was pregnant, I was the happiest in the world, I had no intention of hiding it from you, I tried to contact you but failed then finally I called your mom, she didn’t tell your whereabouts, instead she told me not to disturb you anymore.

Adith if you were me, what would you do?”

Adith was lost for words, he didn’t know what to tell, his mind was muddled, he couldn’t believe that his mother was against them.

“ I am sorry Carys”

Carys just stared at exquisite features of Adith, his eyes were red and he was kind of trembling, he could accept everything that happened to him right now. Then she said “ Adith, you knew that my mom is a public figure, my mom's reputation would be ruined if people comes to know that I am pregnant out of a wed lock, I was still studying and had my third year final semester, I couldn’t hide my tummy anymore, so my mom requested one of her strongest subordinate to act together with me and publish that we are in love and got engaged and expecting a child together. It was a mere drama to protect ourselves form unnecessary harassment, later my mom helped me during the time of delivery and arranged a nanny to take care of the babies, I was on maternity leave for 3 months and again I joined college, life was not easy but I succeeded with my hard work and determination.

Now I have some personal issue and that’s the reason I came to Florida, I never knew that you were here, its just a coincidence.”

Then Carys remembered the call from Adith’s fiancée, she was hurt, she calmed herself and said “ “Adith, you need not worry about us, we are fine, you carry on with your life, hope you don’t disturb us.”

Adith as heart shattered into million pieces, Carys was his first love. He didn’t imagine that she would be so cold hearted, he tried to compose himself and said “ See you tomorrow Carys” and walked towards the door

“Adith, don’t let my children know that you’re the biological father”

Adith's brows knitted, “Why? Our children have all the rights to know about me”.

Carys pursed her lips and “Adith you are getting married to someone else in less than a month, my children have already gone through a lot, now they are happy, please don’t meddle unnecessarily”. I can give them all the love and provide the best”. I warn you, don’t get close to my kids”.
