Chapter Three

1286 Words
As Hunter was carrying me through the forest I kicked and screamed the whole way trying to get him to put me down. Each swing was responded to with the tingle of our mate touch. It almost made me want to stop. Almost. We approached a black escalade and the two men with Hunter put Ry in the back seat. After Ry was in the back seat the wolf I assumed to be the Beta got in the driver’s seat and the other guy got in the passenger seat. Hunter placed me on the middle seat in the back and got in next to me squishing me between himself and Ry. “What the hell is going on?” Ry mindlinked me. “I don’t know but your dad is going to kill us… well you, when we get back. Also the one squishing in next to me is my mate” I mindlinked back. Ry scoffed at my joke trying to hide his laughter so the others wouldn’t know we were mindlinking. Or parabatai for that matter. Then he quickly realized what I said. This man was my mate. He gave me a worried look. “We should probably stop before they catch on.” I replied, elbowing him slightly. We continued a light conversation through mindlink to pass the time.  When a wolf mindlinks another wolf their eyes kind of glaze over and other wolves can see it and know what they are doing. As parabatai though that doesn’t happen when we mindlink with each other. No one really understands our bond as it’s not that common. We can mindlink without anyone knowing, we used to get in so much trouble when we were younger. We can also heal each other faster than even a mate bond can. All of a sudden Ry said something I thought was absolutely hilarious and I had to try and conceal my laughter. Hunter gave me a weird look like he was trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I gave Ry a pointed look urging him to stop.  I leaned forward and asked “So what are your names?” to Hunter’s Beta and Third. I got no response. They acted like I never even said anything. I leaned back in my seat and looked out the window. As we got closer I realized we were heading back to my pack house. That’s good at least we were still on Blue Crescent Territory. When we pulled up to the pack house my uncle came out of the house to greet his guests. You should have seen the look on his face when my cousin and I got out of the back seat. He looked shocked to see us with them but it quickly turned to be more of a mortified look. “I see you met Riley and Isabella.” he said to Hunter. Hunter responded with a nod. I tried following Ry who was walking towards his father when Hunter stopped me with a grunt and growled out “Mine” pulling me back towards him. My uncle gave me another mortified look but decided against speaking up. My uncle invited Hunter and his men up to his office to discuss the new treaty that was to be negotiated. Hunter brought me to my uncle’s office with him. My uncle tried to stop him from allowing me to come to the meeting, to try and give me a break, with them but Hunter insisted. Hunter's men stayed posted outside the office while my uncle, cousin, mate, and myself walked into my uncles office. Hunter sat me down at the leather couch and walked over to my uncle's desk to start the meeting. The meeting started with talk about rogues. I didn’t bother listening. What was the point? They weren’t going to listen to me anyways. I was officially no longer the next Alpha of the Blue Crescent pack. I found my mate and would now be the future Luna of the Black Moon pack. The biggest baddest pack in North America. So, I sat there thinking about my future life and how I was going to get the hell out of it. Truth is I don’t want to be Luna of some other pack. I want to make history and be the first ever female Alpha. After what seemed like forever I got pulled out of my trance when I heard my name. “Oh and one more thing” Hunter said. “Isabella comes with me.” What? Did I just hear that correctly? Is Hunter seriously using me as a negotiation for the peace treaty? My uncle looked at me with remorse in his eyes. I was truly worried he would agree. I begged him with my eyes not too. How was he even considering this. Immediately Ry snapped up and opposed coming to my rescue. “She is not property,” he yelled. “You cannot negotiate her ownership as if she isn’t a human being!” “As my mate I need her by my side. If you are trying to keep me from my mate I will have no choice but declare war” Hunter responded coldly. My uncle responded “According to the elder pack laws Isabella gets 10 days to stay with her pack and say goodbye.” My uncle mindlinked Ry and I saying it was the best he could do to buy us some time. Hunter nodded, commenting that he would not go against elder pack law.      **************** A few hours later my aunt, who is my favorite person in the whole world, called everyone down for dinner. My aunt and uncle took me in when my parents died and cared for me as if I were their own. To my surprise Hunter was there with his Beta and Third whose names I still didn’t know. I would have assumed they would have headed back to Black Moon and come back in 10 days to get me.  My aunt asked me to go down to the wine cellar and grab a few bottles of wine to go with the fettuccine alfredo that she made. On my way up I ran into Hunter who was blocking my way back to the kitchen. He just sat there silently staring at me. “Can I help you?” I asked annoyedly, trying to push past him. “I just wanted to apologize for earlier” he said with a sad tone that I hadn’t heard him use before until now. “For what? When you threw me over your shoulder, kidn*pped Riley and I in your truck, or when you tried treating me like a piece of property and negotiated for me in a peace treaty with my pack!?” I snapped at him. He looked down and whispered “All of it. I am truly sorry Isabella. My mate instinct took over and I couldn’t stop myself. Can you forgive me?” Just as he asked I got a mindlink from Riley, “You okay? Where are you” I sent a quick reply to Ry and turned to Hunter “We will have to see. Now can you let me through. They are waiting.” I waited for a minute and then he grabbed the bottles of wine from my hands and stepped aside so I could pass and lead the way. He followed closely behind me as I walked to the kitchen. When we walked into the kitchen all heads turned to us and my aunt gave me a sad look. My uncle must have filled her in, at least I didn’t have to, I thought to myself. As we sat down to dinner I sat with Hunter to my left and Ry to my right. This had to be the most awkward dinner ever. Hopefully it would go well.
